Back from South Padre Island!

This was the first time my son-in-law had been. My granddaughter had never been to a beach before or seen the ocean. (Gulf of Mexico). It’s not a horribly long drive–about 7 hours, but we had to add to the time with gas stops, bathroom stops, baby feeding and diaper changing stops. We were only 2 cars away from a horrible 18-wheeler accident. I was sitting in the way back so didn’t see it. My son-in-law had to swerve to miss the guy slamming on his brakes in front of him, and then the 3 vehicles pulled over, but since none of us in our car had seen what had happened, and with a baby and 4 year old in the car, we waited while the men in the two trucks ahead of us got out and were pulling the driver out of the overturned cab. The traffic was going through still and the emergency vehicles were on their way and we continued on ours.

Just phone picture crossing bridge to South Padre Island

On the way down, we were delayed by an accident on the bridge to the island. Driving 9 miles took an hour. I can’t even imagine how they could have removed the wrecked cars on that high bridge.

This is the first vacation we’d had in 2 years because of COVID.

On the way home, we ran into torrential thunderstorms and I can never understand how some people won’t turn on their lights! Don’t they know that the visibility is so bad that other cars can’t see them? It’s not so much that they can see better on the road!

Anyway, we’re home and I have to take care of little one today instead of on Thursday. She had a little too much sun. She was absolutely fearless in the water when it can be so dangerous. Tidal pull was strong, but it was shallow a long ways out, so I pulled her on a boogie board through the water, held the board while she stood up on it, and then took her to the drop off where other kids were sitting in the shallows and she was doing that.

Then there was the shark trough. That’s what I think of it because of the Cape Canaveral Beach in Florida where they closed it to the military servicemen. They had so many shark attacks in that trough before the sandbar and this looked just like it.

We walked 2 miles to a Italian ice cream shop. I ended up carrying my granddaughter about 3/4 miles of the trip and daddy and mommy carried her the rest of the time. We needed her stroller. She had walked all over the boardwalks earlier that day at the Birding Center. And of course for hours at the beach. So she just couldn’t make it.

Thunderstorms we ran into on way home.

Okay, little one will be here momentarily. Trying to download my pictures since 4th of July. And I have a book to proof, Silence of the Wolf, and a red hat society bear to make. I need to pick up the dogs at 1. So another crazy day, though I was ready to just chill and wash and such!

Have a wonderful day!

You Had Me at Cougar Released!

Master baker Ava Lamar has one mission in mind after baking tons of treats for the Fourth of July celebration in Yuma Town—swimming at Lake Buchanan on this hot summer’s day. What she doesn’t expect is to be saddled with running the fortune telling booth—using her real psychic abilities—and giving a hot, bachelor cougar a place to stay for the whole weekend.

Cougar Shifter Force Special Agent Chet Kensington has just finished a tough mission, been chewed up a bit by rogue cougars, and he’s taking a break to be with his old team, but he has no place to stay, everything being booked up in Yuma Town for the big cougar celebration. When Ava reluctantly allows him to stay with her, he finds himself drawn to her the whole celebration long.

But back home in Wyoming, things are getting out of hand. A serial killer is murdering female cougars and he and some of his old team have to find him, pronto. The problem is all the trouble leads right back to Ava—and now he has to do his best to keep her safe before the killer adds her to his list of victims.

I was going to write this earlier, but then I realized it looked too summery, so I went with Cougar Christmas Calamity earlier and then this was my summer cougar book. But I thought I’d write Saving the White Cougar as a Halloween novella and so I thought I’ll jump on that quickly between wolf deadline books. But Saving the White Cougar kept growing and growing and growing. lol

So it turned into a full-length novel, which is fine, but I still needed it to come AFTER You Had Me at Cougar. 🙂 You Had Me at Cougar print cover will be worked on Monday, so I’m hoping I can have it up by Friday of next week.

Saving the White Cougar is ready for preorders with a release date of September 1st.

We had violent storms last night and this morning, but I think things are supposed to chill out after that.

Now if I could only come up with some ideas for the Christmas stories!

I have to start thinking WOLF again.

Have a great day!

My Cat is Not Spoiled…

It’s going to be a wild day today is all I can say. I was out pulling up spent sunflowers and got the trash out. I have a million things to do.

When I took Tanner in for his shots, the vet recommends I brush my dogs’ teeth. Well, that’s easier said than done!!! Yes, he eats hard food. Yes, he chews on bones. Yes, he crunches on hard biscuits. It doesn’t matter!

So there’s something I can add to the water that I’m going to try that’s supposed to help with the tartar build up. And he has one ear with too much hair in it. Tanner is a hairy dog. What can I say? His black fur is so thick it’s wonderful, but it’s also a job to comb through all the way to the roots, though I spend a couple of hours on him every day. I looked at his ear, but I couldn’t see what she was talking about. He’ll go to the groomers this weekend and I’ll ask them to do it. At least with trying to brush his teeth, he likes the baking soda toothpaste. And when Max came up to get his brushing–he has to do everything that Tanner does, Tanner was right back up there wanting me to brush his teeth again. Well, maybe not brush them, but give him some more of that toothpaste. Silly dog.

Little one will be here any second, so I need to wrap this up. I have to go to the grocery store this morning or we won’t have anything for lunch or dinner.

Hope you all have a wonderfully exciting day too!

Brenham, Texas Writer’s Retreat

When I went to the writer’s retreat some years ago, I was madly editing a book I needed to turn in, but also taking walks and photographing the landscape and farm animals and birds from a birding blind. So much fun!

So yesterday I managed to get through 10 chapters of You Had Me at Cougar. I’m working on the last 6 chapters today, but have grandbaby duty this morning. I’m going to try and run to the grocery store before he gets here. And then have to pick up my granddaughter later, so it might be rough. I want to upload the proofed Saving the White Cougar today to all the sites, if I can do it. It’s on preorder so it will be out on September 1st.

Tomorrow my granddaughter will be here all day and that means swimming, hip hop dancing while I watch the baby, we’ll be doing workbooks, reading 1st readers, and painting more suncatchers. She has the butterfly one picked out for tomorrow.

A wild day in all. So I’m hoping I can get most of my work done on the two cougar books today!

It’s blessedly cool out this morning, lower humidity and we’re supposed to have storms this afternoon about the time I pick up my granddaughter from pre-school. Naturally. lol

The last time we were in the deluge, I just told her we were going through the tropical rainforest and she said, “That has lots of houses in it.”

Uh, yeah. Not typical of a rainforest. How did she get so smart? But she has a great imagination and she plays along. She asked me yesterday if the dragon in the eggshell that is emerging is real or not. I said not real. Otherwise it would be out already and breathing fire. So it’s good he’s not real. lol

Well, I’m off to get groceries and then I’m afraid I won’t have time for proofing UNLESS baby sleeps. Here’s hoping.

Have a super, lovely day!

Blue Parrots all in a Row

Yesterday was a fun day. I went shopping with my daughter and grandbaby and we had lunch out, then I had to go pick up my granddaughter at preschool in the deluge of a thunderstorm. Had to rush her and all kind of stuff to the house. Then home again and I finished up chapter 4 proofing on You Had Me at Cougar.

Blue Parrots at the Houston Zoo and Oscraps page and elements.

What was fun about the parrots is that they finally were all looking in the same direction at one point and I was able to get all of their heads instead of some of them grooming themselves. So it was a model-perfect pose.

One of my beta readers organized a fun role-playing group on Facebook for the cougar series some years ago and a group of fans act out the roles. So she wanted me to add a couple of characters who weren’t getting enough showtime in the book so they could role play. How fun is that?

I just have to make sure that when I add stuff, I don’t make new mistakes. But once this is up on the sites before it’s up for sale, I’ll proof it again.

I lost 2.6 lbs this week, woohoo, and I’m still eating, so not starving myself. It’s just a matter of eating lower calorie choices. I picked up a bag of individual bags of skinny popcorn and it’s satisfying the urge for something salty. And instead of chocolate if I have a sweet craving, though sometimes I have one “square,” though it’s really rectangular piece of dark chocolate, I eat an apple.

I still eat beef, but a lot more chicken also. On the blue plan on Weight Watchers, chicken breasts are free, though chicken thighs are 3 pts for 3 oz. Now who has a weight measuring tool? Not me. So I wing it. And when I get hungry and just have to eat something more, I just steam some vegetables, add butter and seasoning, and yes, the butter counts, but I still manage to keep my 23 points or less and lose weight. I’ve lost 12.6 lbs so far and it’s working! It’s not just a diet, but rethinking what I eat.

Okay, so I’m back to work on the book. Need to take Tanner in for his shots at 8. I just have tor remember it and not get too involved in proofing the book this morning!

Have a wonderful day! I’m off to get back to mine!

Lions–Big Cats–Photo Art

The picture at the top and bottom are my lion photos and then the rest is Lynne Anzelc’s Safari bits and pieces and the background paper on Oscraps.

I finished proofing Saving the White Cougar and made the changes and now I’m working on the final read of You Had Me at Cougar. Hoping to get this done this week!

I’m off to work. Feels like 91 already and I did some weeding. Too hot and muggy.

Have a great day!!!

Eye of the Dragon-Easy Projects for Little Ones

This was one of our 4 year old projects, though it takes days, so we should have started it on Thursday when she was here all day. We started it on Friday, Saturday it had begun cracking out of his shell. And Saturday evening when I was taking care of baby, we saw the eye of the dragon. My granddaughter is fascinated with it and kept checking it constantly. First thing when she woke up, she had to check on the dragon’s egg and was so excited to see it had cracked. lol When I pick her up from school, I’ll have to drop by the house first to show her the dragon’s eye before I take her home.

She also did this suncatcher. The first one, just starting out, the 2nd when it was still wet, and the third one when it was dry. It’s really cute. We have 12 of them to do, so we can play with them once a week. It helps with coordination and she did it all by herself, though I took a q-tip to remove some of the paint off the black lines on the balloon. I might not have needed to, not sure.

But it was easy for a 4 year old to do.

We also created rice cake treats with cereal faces. The ones they showed in the magazine were bigger. These were a little too small. But she had fun, added peanut butter and then the decorations. They showed a mix of fruit and cereal, but ours just weren’t big enough.

I’m over halfway done on proofing Saving the White Cougar, and edits are coming in for You Had Me at Cougar, so for the next few days I’ll be concentrating on getting those done, then back to trying to figure out the Christmas stories!

It’s supposed to be 94 here, which, with heat index, will be about 104. So good day to stay home and work on the books!

Have a lovely day!

Crafts with a 4 Year Old

100% rain today, 2 1/2″ yesterday. But we needed it. I’m sure this is all from Elsa, but it’s cooled things down for us and welcome.

My granddaughter was making necklaces yesterday and had so much. I’ve got her overnight tonight, going to dance to the music this afternoon with my daughter. Our plans to swim aren’t flying this morning because of the rain, but I’ve got to ship off a book and I need groceries again so I’ll be running around in the rain, hoping I don’t melt.

No photo description available.

We’re going to make a tornado in a bottle–need food coloring, and hatch a dragon from an egg tonight after I pick my granddaughter up from pre-school. Have popcorn and a movie night.

I’m working on proofing Saving the White Cougar still. Hope to have it done this weekend. I’m on chapter 4.

Have a wonderful day!! It’s wet and wild here!

The Wolf Pack

I love writing about the cougars, jaguars, bears, and wolves. And it’s fun attributing true stories to them and to their human forms. This is another art challenge I did for July.

I’m still mulling on an opening for the 2 Christmas stories.

“Can you keep a secret?”

He already knew this was going to be a bad day.

She thought she saw someone peeping in her window before dawn.

When she learned she was going to be paired up to work with a human, she wanted to scream.

Anyway, I need to figure out a great opening. lol

We’re off to the pool after I feed little one and then we’ll be home to eat lunch and if I get lucky, put her down for a nap, read stories, do workbooks and go to hip-hop class instead of ballet. She has separation anxiety. I didn’t realize that was a thing. Maybe because of baby brother coming along and he gets to stay with us?

And somewhere along the line, I’m working on a story.

Have a beautiful day!
