Adding Textures to Photos

I used Daily Textures and Magnolia Textures to emphasize what I wanted to and exclude the rest. On the zinnia and hummingbird picture, I used the same texture both around the flowers as a background and another on top.

If I had my feeders away from the shrubs, then I could capture a creamy background instead. But the birds like the protection of the vegetation. We have shinned-tail hawks out here that would love to swoop down and have a nice meal too.

I have 3,000 words to go on Red Wolf to make 80,000 words, the minimum word count. Hope to get that today!

I’m on a NO chocolate, NO chips diet. I’ve been doing it for 4 days and feel so much better, lost 3 lbs right away. I don’t eat a lot of processed foods, so no sugar added that way. Yay!

Today, I found this article on sugar and how bad it can be for you. Brain fog? Okay, anything that messes with my writing can’t be good for me.

Portraits of Highland Cows

I love Highland cows! I also love longhorn steer, but I haven’t found them to take pictures of and I live in Texas, I know. I took these pictures in Scotland.

Okay, got a little written yesterday on Red Wolf–after little one went home. Wild storms this morning at 3. It’s still raining. I believe them now when they said we would be under flash flood watch. My dogs haven’t even asked to be taken out when they’re usually ready as soon as I get up. It’s still thundering like crazy.

Creating Art From Photos

From a blase picture to something fun!

Okay, little one is coming here today, ordered a set of Dick and Jane books to help her read. She loves to read to herself and I read to her all the time. But I was so excited when I was little to learn how to read on my own using the Dick and Jane books. Some things are timeless. They arrived yesterday so today we do more reading/learning. I’ve worked with her on some beginner Dr. Seuss books also.

Turned in edits on the Wolf Wears Plaid and managed to reach 74K on Red Wolf last night. Need 6K more to make word count, so should have that soon. Hopefully, and then just finishing up the story, and that will probably make it about 90K.

Took my walk mucho early this morning. It’s getting hotter, muggy, muggy, muggy, and we’re under flash flood warnings through Saturday, so I figure I’d better get it done.

Okay, so it’s pouring rain, yay! Need it for all the seeds I planted.

And I’m off to finish proofing the last 10 chapters of the Wolf Wore Plaid and get back to Red Wolf. Eighty more pages to go.

I took pictures of flowers after weeding this morning. The joy of growing them is enjoying them longer in photos.

The Offering

I love fantasy, mythologies from around the world and was fascinated with creatures such as the centaur. It’s so fun being able to create art that poses a story because from this scene all kinds of questions are asked. What is he offering. To whom? And how will it be received?

In writing a story, I have to think of what-ifs. What if the gift isn’t received favorably? What if it is? What if the recipient of the gift wants more? Where did the gift come from? Was it earned or stolen or found?

As I write on Red Wolf Christmas, I constantly have to ask myself questions. Have I set up the mystery early enough on? No. Why not? I didn’t know what it was at first. So I need to put a clue in earlier. That was the thought I had first thing when I was waking. So I’m off to add it!

Blue Jays in Conversation

“Hey, the girl is mine,” Mr. Talkative said.

“Look at my beautiful feathers. She’s sees these and that’s all she wrote.”

“Hmm,” the other bird said.

Yep, I speak bird.

Don’t you hate it when you can sleep finally, and the smoke detector (one of like 10 stupid detectors they install in these houses) starts beeping? It’s got such a shrill sound, there’s no ignoring it and it was on the other side of the house and it still sounds as bad as if it were in the same room. Well, nearly. It meant its battery needed changing. Since I have 10-foot ceilings, that meant getting the ladder out, carrying it into the house from the garage, getting a 9-volt battery, climbing the ladder, and pulling the old battery out. Paying attention to the way the other went in because I can’t see how the battery is supposed to go in, I’m proud of myself. Insert new battery after a humongous struggle, climb down ladder, walk to the kitchen, the detector starts beeping.

Return to the ladder, climb up, remove battery, reinsert battery after a horrible struggle–my dad used to say never force things because it isn’t meant to work that way if you have to force it–in this case, he’s wrong. It’s supposed to be in there that way. Wait this time before I climb down ladder.

Beep…………….beep……………beep. And it’s not just a beep-beep like Road Runner made. Nope. It’s a shrill, ear-piercing screech, right next to my head. Of course. I take it out, try to put it in the opposite way that I know isn’t right, and can’t get it in at all.

So I climb down the ladder and get ANOTHER new battery, climb up the ladder, remove the “old” new battery, slip in the “new” new battery and voila, no struggle to get it in.

Okay, okay, so maybe dad was right, even if the other should have worked. And yes, after waiting, no beep. Climbing down the ladder, no beep. Several minutes passed while writing the blog, no beep. Time to carry the ladder back to the garage. More sleep? Forget that. The dogs want out. Food, out, in.

Time to write.

Hope you have a sound sleep and no screeching Road Runner waking you from your dreams.

Wild Wolf Growling

The snarling cougar and red wolf are created using a paint mask splatter and then clipping the animal to the mask, then adding a texture!

I ran more errands than I planned yesterday, wrote a 1,000 words on the novella, and hope to have it done by Saturday. Then I’m starting on the full length novel, Red Wolf Christmas.

In the meantime, I received more promo blogs to do, but I’m concentrating on the novella first! Need to finish it and send it to my beta readers so I can edit it again and send it to my editor.

Baby’s on her way, and that means not much writing can be done today. Hope you all are having a great day!

Making Scrap Art

I was writing yesterday, but my new obsession is creating scrap art. The golden jaguar at the bottom of the page on the left is a photo I took. The background was from Pixabay, the princess tower from Louise Nash’s freebies, the fur from Etsy fur photos, the word art, flowers and butterfly from Oscraps, the black jaguar from Renderosity. I used ink splotches to create the masks that made them appear like art scraps.

Curious Giraffes

For this one, I took a picture of a giraffe baby and junior and used a mask on a background from Pixabay. Then added flowers and a butterfly from Oscraps.

I did manage to get 3,000 words written on the novella. I only need about 3,000 more words to make my word count goal, but I have to figure out how to wrap the story up. Didn’t set my alarm last night and woke only 15 minutes before baby got here. ack! So I was rushing around getting ready.

She’s been tired and needy, so we’ve been cuddling and reading stories.

We’re off to walk in the heat before the sun gets too high in the sky, and the pool day after that.

A Tribute to Wolves from a Fan

I loved this work by Jai Pietryka! He loves wolves and he loves my books! That makes him a hero in my book! The coat of arms bears the name of wolves lupus garou, that I created, so that is so cool!

I had to do the marketing materials for Billionaire She-Wolf, get word count on Hunting the Red Wolf (which I didn’t do) and do edits on Billionaire She-Wolf. Well, I sent in the marketing materials. I did MOST of the edits. I have a mix-up at the end of a chapter and beginning of the next–due to moving things around before I sent it to my readers, and one of my beta readers caught it, yay! So my next step is to read through the whole story and make any other changes I need to and then turn the book in. And get back on track with word count on Red Wolf.

But, granddaughter will be here in a few minutes and that means it will all have to happen later!

Being an Eclectic Artist

On the Jaguar/Lion promo photo, I used Oscraps elements from a Safari one, though, I might have picked up the jaguar from another. In any event, do you notice my artist style? Nope? Right! I am eclectic. Which means I’m still trying to figure it out, but I love trying new things. Constantly.

I’d love to be able to take my own pictures and turn them into watercolor scraps too. Anyway, the cat was from Pixabay, and so were the two texture layers I used, one of a galaxy, and one of just a gold texture. I have TONS of photos I’ve taken, so that is one quest I have. Among MILLIONS of others.

In the meantime, it’s back to proofing the book. I only managed to get 4 chapters read yesterday, baby here until late, and I just couldn’t get anything done.
