Mauve/Pink Daylilies

I think these are my favorite colorwise. They’re so soft with a little ruffled edge, a green and yellow throat. Just so pretty.

So I had to laugh at my dogs yesterday. They are so routinized that they go to their crates for a nap after lunch (because I would put them down for a nap when I put my granddaughter down for one so they wouldn’t wake her) that even when she’s not here, off they go.

Well, they hadn’t even had lunch yet, and I saw them both go into my bedroom. What mischief were they up to? I’ve caught Tanner sleeping on my bed before, a no-no, but of course when I catch him, he’s flying in the air, pretending he wasn’t snoozing on my bed. Nope, here they are. Both of them. Lying down in the crates, heads up, waiting for me to come and give them a treat and shut their crates. Now Tanner will go in there to sleep on his own throughout the day if I don’t shut the door so he will sleep out here with us.

They didn’t move. They just waited. “Come,” I said. “Time for lunch.” And both raced to their training cot where they lie down and wait for me to serve up lunch. “Break,” and they’re released to get their meal. Then potty break and once we’re in the house, they race for their crates. lol Now, it’s naptime.

Hope you all have a terrifically wonderful day.

Daylilies Abloom

Daylilies in bloom, from a gold with burnt orange center, to peach with a darker peach center, to the regular yellow daylilies, to purple, darker peach with a wine center and red with a yellow center.

I love daylilies. They come back each year, bigger and more beautiful than before. I was on a plant identification site, trying to figure out what a plant was when I came across a seed sharing forum and they were mentioning daylily seeds. Daylily seeds? Now that intrigued me. So here’s a site where they talk about it and it has a link to a seed sharing site also.

https://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/989

I’ve had a lot of volunteer pine trees, crape myrtles, yaupon hollies pop up in my yard. But I haven’t done much in propagating my own flower seeds to create new batches. Until a couple of friends began sending me some of theirs. But now, I’ve tried to propagate yellow ligustrum by sticking the branches I needed to trim back in the yard, and yep, some of them are beginning to take hold and leaf out.

I’ve tried this with roses, and haven’t had much success, but I think I’m going to give it a shot again. I really love seeing the new plant take hold and I don’t even need to go out and buy another!

Another idea I hadn’t thought of was cross pollination and creating your own cultivar! Just think! You could create a beautiful cultivar of your own, name and register it. Shapeshifter Goddess. That would be the name of my beautiful cultivar. lol

BUT, I need to write, promote, write, edit, write, pull weeds, write…and so on.

Okay, granddaughter is here and I need to see if I can get her breakfast and some writing done while she’s sleepily watching cartoons.

May the force of flower power be with you!

Running….

Granddaughter’s on her way and I’m sort of running this morning. Had to shut the computer down to get my internet to work.

These are a pretty purplish daylily that are having a field day! And the other is a watercolor version of them.

I’m WAY behind on word count on Billionaire because of having to edit the other book and write the novella, sooooo, I have to get cracking. 30,000 done, 50,000+ to go, and it’s due July 1st. At 2,000 a day on days I don’t have my granddaughter, it’s going to be tight, again. Next book, I’ll finally have more time. I hope. In July, I have another release, and that means more promo, and I haven’t even worked on the promo for the book releasing this month. Ugh.

Have a super, lovely day. I think I hear my granddaughter at the door!

Fun Stuff in the Garden

First zinnia flower from seed. And the new orange and yellow daylilies finally bloomed. The mushroom is the fairies’ planting, I’m sure.

Off to write!! I’ve been working on the cover for Claiming the White Bear. It helps me to visualize the characters. I added a little word count to that book yesterday (up to 12,000+ now), and to SEAL Wolf Surrender. I’d prefer a conflictive couple for the cover of the new white bear book but couldn’t find any. Conflict is better! For a book that is romantic suspense.

Anyway, I started Claiming the White Bear at Christmas time while visiting my son and DIL. He was playing a game and I was watching it and giving direction (lol) and writing. Perfect vacation. But then I got a new contract for 3 more books and had to get down to writing deadline books.

Oh, and my daughter claimed the Sunshine ligustrum that volunteered next to the house. So I’ve got to try and dig it up for her. 🙂  I love being able to share plants!

I’m back to the word count!!! Have a great day!!!

When the Unexpected Happens and Messes up Your Goals…

Daylily, Stormy Weather, Spider Lily, Sunny Sunflower

I was sick, sick, sick yesterday and up all night the night before being sick, ugh. It didn’t work well for my writing. Though I did finish edits on Her Jaguar Protector the night before, and yesterday I managed to get 1/2 of my word count for the day.

Feeling much better today, and hope to catch up on my word count!

Which goes to prove that if you do more than you have scheduled, if you have an unscheduled interruption, you will still be mostly on track. 🙂

On the flowers, I planted the spider lilies this year, and didn’t know how they’d really look. They’re beautiful, exotic. The sunflowers come up from the birdseed. I just let them flower. The bees like them. And I missed taking a picture of a bee that was too cold to move, sitting on a chives flower yesterday morning. I was reading where that’s the best way to take a really good closeup shot. I checked this morning, but no bees. They’re around, but just didn’t find one resting anywhere.

Off to catch up on my writing!!! Have a flower-filled day!

Massing Color or….Not & It’s EARTH Day!

Pink gerbera daisy, yellow daffodils, hot pink dianthus, red gerbera daisies, red drift roses, yellow Asiatic lily, yellow coreopsis moonbeam, and more flowers about to bloom

Around the neighborhood when I walk, I see where some neighbors mass their colors–all orange marigolds, or yellow lantana, and it’s showy and pretty. That’s what is often recommended. Same plant, same color for a really spectacular setting.

Me? I tend to have a riot of color. I have been adding a lot of the same kind of flowers–the lilies and daylilies so that it’s not just one here and there. And as they get bigger, spread more, they’ll be more noticeable. I had only one red rose bush, and now have two. I notice that neighbors who have more than one in their front yard appear to be more balanced. I added one of the apricot ones too. I can’t help myself. They’re beautiful. But I think another couple of red roses is in order. The drift are small, lower, you don’t have to do a thing with them. So I think I’ll get a couple more of those to balance things out. I have all purple magic crepe myrtles out front so that I have balance with those. 🙂

I had all blaze red roses out front of my house along a fence when I lived in Oklahoma, and it really was pretty, but the blaze eventually died of fungus. My mom had them too all along her white brick wall in Texas and the same thing happened to hers. Knockout roses seem to be the best for hot humid weather and survive fine through the hard freezes we have.

I had a redbud with the prettiest purple flowers and I had a flowering perennial ground cover that was the exact same color! I did it on purpose, NOT, but boy, was it spectacular when all of them were in bloom. So massing color does work!

It’s EARTH Day! Remember the earth, plant a tree, recycle, save water!

Okay, off to work on the story!! Up to 25,000, 55K to go!

Have a wonderful day!!

Gardening as a Hobby

Burgundy daylily, pink dianthus in the background, red Asian lily, yellow Asian lily

I’m impatient. Yep. That’s me.

I started my garden two years ago, but from the beginning, I wanted it to look….finished. This year, its just starting to take hold in it’s third year. Some flowers bit the dust. Others are doing great. Some struggle. From that, I learn which do fine here in the hot, hot, hot long humid summers, but can still withstand a hard freeze or two…or three in winter.

But I kept adding flowers. It didn’t look like a garden yet. Just a few sparse flowers here and there.  And lots and lots and lots of weeds.

The second year, I added a lot more flowers. I learned that interspersing with annuals helps, if the flowerbed needs some more color, but you know that the perennials, that come back each year, will eventually take over. That way there’s more constant color. Some annuals will reseed themselves and you’ll have a new crop, or a few anyway, will return the next year.

With the flowerbeds around the oak trees, they (the builders) piled mulch high, high on the trees, not good, BUT the trees put out feeder roots through the mulch. So planting in that isn’t easy.  And you don’t want to damage the tree. Then seeds really are the greatest. The problem again is that the high mound dries out quickly, so I have to plant stuff that doesn’t mind a little drying out. I have to water it on the hottest days.

I like low maintenance as much as possible. Plant the flowers, let everything do it’s own thing. And then I get to just take pictures. 🙂 <3

But I’m still spending a LOT of time weeding. Soooo, still working on a way to cut some of that down. Until then, I’ve got word count to get back to!

My regular job calls me.

Have a lovely weekend!! We’re looking at severe thunderstorms and hail even today. So I was out pulling weeds from the lawn this morning. 🙂

Taking a LONG Walk

Late posting because I had a mission: Take pictures of purple irises before it was too sunny out. And I walked the wrong way. But that’s okay. I managed to get some shots of a great white heron and a snake bird and walked 3.6 miles. I still also had shots of the irises. I just missed taking a picture of a hawk on a dead tree. By the time I whipped my camera around to take the shot and before I could focus, he flew off.

yellow Asiatic lily, daylily, gerbera daisy, and pink rainbow bear

Two-hundred and ten pictures later, I’m home, trying to cool off and getting ready to immerse myself in SEAL Wolf Surrender.

No more interruptions. But what a wonderful start to a day. I’m just downloading the pictures now, so will have to share tomorrow.

Have a lovely different kind of day too!  🙂 <3

Rainy Day Brings April Flowers!

Well, baby had the stomach flu and an ear infection while I was taking care of her. So other than playing with her, feeding her, and getting her to sleep for 4 1/2 hours during two naps on my lap for the day, we didn’t go anywhere like I’d planned.  Hope I don’t catch it!!! She still had her shots, but she’s on antibiotics now too.

Today, have to get back on track with writing. It’s a really neat vampire day, light rain, dark skies, took some pictures of flowers that flowered while baby was here, but couldn’t capture them yester.

Yellow daylily, red Asiatic lily and peach roses that turn pink.

What a beautiful day! Have a fun one! 🙂 <3

Ha! My post didn’t publish. Darn fae.
