Proofing Books

I finished proofing Dreaming of the Wolf and the novella in the 10th anniversary release. I love proofing books, hoping I catch anything the editors didn’t, glad they caught stuff at the end that none of us had. It’s my final say in any of this. I’m thrilled to finish it, but it’s been fun to read this story again. I don’t have time to reread all my books over again, after initially reading them so many times–changing this and that–until my eyes cross. But when they’re at the proofing stage, it’s great because I’m reading it for enjoyment too. But this book had been written ten years ago, and so it’s enjoyable revisiting the earlier books too.

In Dreaming of the Wolf, Alicia Greiston witnesses, or shoots a couple of bad guys in self-defense. She’s a bounty hunter after a couple of men who murdered her mother and she’s trying to learn who her father was. She’s been wanted for questioning all over the state of Colorado. Trying to keep the wolf issues out of the equation is tantamount. Yet, she’d bitten one guy too, and left evidence behind. Wolves shed. And if someone does DNA on saliva, they can determine if it’s a dog or a wolf. They had done that in the case of a farmer’s sheep that were being killed by a “wolf,” only to learn from DNA that the culprits had been dogs.

I read tons of mysteries while growing up, and I love writing them. Throw a newly turned wolf into the setup, a romance, and it’s a perfection situation for disaster.

So I turned it in and now I’m working on edits on White Wolf Moon. I’m up to chapter 10, but I have 18 more chapters to go!

I took a lot of pictures of families in masks for the baby shower and sent those to my daughter. But I’d like do to some more fun photo art. Just have had my nose to the grindstone on the books.I’m down to proofing 3 books now. And then once all three of those are done, I’m back to the world of writing. Billionaire Wolf is next on the schedule of deadline books and the USF Christmas Wolf story and You Had Me at Cougar.

“Then she crept through the woods with great elf stealth. She’d seen the golden eyes of wolves peering at her through the darkness, a darkness she could see in just as well as them. She heard an owl hooting high above in a pine tree, warning there was a new danger on the prowl. Her, of course. Not a danger to the owls in the woods, but to the elves who would keep a princess locked in a tower.”–Warrior Elf

I’m working on Warrior Elf also, when I get stuck on the other books. 🙂

Okay, enough chit-chat, got to get back to proofing. Have a lovely day!

Sometimes You Need a Good Howl!

Some days don’t you feel you just need to howl? Picture created with Oscraps and other clip art. Sometimes we get ourselves into a tight spot. Here’s hoping we can come out of it in good shape!

Yay! So I’m over halfway through proofing Primal Desire! I think I finished White Wolf yesterday. I did all the last of the major rewrites and added scenes. I have to re-read it from beginning to end and there might be some changes still needed, but I have to give it a couple of days’ break so I can look at if with fresh eyes.

In the meantime, I’m now proofing Primal Desire one last time and then I’ll be getting it ready to publish. I’ll be doing the same with Saving the White Cougar, but that one will be a preorder. So as soon as I finish proofing Primal Desire, I’ll begin proofing Saving the White Cougar one last time. I need to create a cover for that and that means finding a good cougar photo to add to my couple, and turn it white. 🙂

All this means no word count for a bit, though I will try to get some done for my 4theword game so I can keep my writing streak going. Even my blogs can count for that. And I need to write some promo blogs for Primal Desire, so I can work on them on 4thewords too.

I didn’t have to pick up little one yesterday and that helped because about by three, I had finally finished White Wolf and jumped on Primal Desire proofing.

The snow and ice are over–for now, so I’m back to weeding.

Hope you all have a great day! I’ve got to get back to proofing Primal Desire so I can publish it. This book was 10 years in coming, and periodically I would work on it. So now, it’s nearly done. Yay!

A New Book Beginning

I’m so excited! I know to go by gut extinct and something was totally off on the story. The story is there–for White Wolf–but I was taking it in a different direction and there was no real conflict. I was thinking I’d have to write the WHOLE book, starting from scratch, and the time is ticking away. Not only do I have an April 1st deadline, but a new grandbaby coming–a drive-thru baby shower to host (hope it warms up by then), and a birthday party (family only) for my granddaughter to attend. We’re going to the zoo while the kids are in school and we’ll be wearing masks. But I started rethinking the beginning of the book, and then, voila! I had it, by jove! It was there all the time, but I just had to take a different direction to start the book.

Yesterday, I ended up writing 8200 words in the book. I removed the prologue, though if it were an indie book, I’d leave it, but so that my editor doesn’t take it out, I removed it.

So I’m at 84K on the book. I normally have to have a minimum of 80K, and I’m still writing the opening–another 400 words this morning in a few minutes, which makes the book 85K now. And I’m still writing the new beginning and I am excited about it. But I’m going to have to do a lot of rewrites to the rest of the book. And that’s okay. It’s easier to work with something that is there than something that is not. A lot of the scenes I love. I just needed to start with a different opening and now rewrite them to fit with the new opening.

It’s great. I love it. I hope my readers do too!

Have a super great day and I hope I can really make a dent in the rewrites in the next few days. I need to finish this baby up in the next few days.

Cougar Halloween Mischief is Up and Running!

Ricky Jones is looking forward to his first day on the job as a deputy sheriff in the cougar-run town of Yuma Town, but he doesn’t expect to run into his former girlfriend while he’s wearing his cougar coat. Now he wants her back in the worst way, but he’s sure she’s going to be even madder at him for dumping her three years back.

Mandy Richards is on her way to an interview at a hospital north of Yuma Town for the position of a Licensed Practical Nurse when she hits a cougar in the thick foggy night, a full moon silhouetted in the gloom on Friday, the thirteenth. Checking on the wounded cougar changes her world forever.

We had violent storms yesterday and I put one of my dogs in the closet with his bed. He didn’t make a sound, so I think he felt safer. I had a standard poodle I gave a home to years ago that was terrified of storms. Her former owner had her sleeping on a covered metal porch and storms were magnified, poor thing. So she would sleep in my storm closet and was perfectly fine. A couple of times we curled up in there with her when we were living in Oklahoma too. More storms scheduled for today, and tomorrow for Halloween? 34-52 degrees. Brrrrr. But no storms. Thankfully.

I’m still working on edits on Red Wolf Christmas. I’m up to ch 10, and 20 chapters to go and an epilogue. My process is to go through the whole book and accept and delete all the small stuff. Then just make sure I’ve answered all the questions in the comments that I can. She often questions stuff throughout the book that are explained a few paragraphs down. You don’t hit someone in the eye with all the details right away. You have to show them as you write the story. Wait for it. Wait. Wait for it. There, see? It’s there. Sometimes something can be shown earlier, but not always.

This time, she wanted me to make some major changes. So they didn’t affect chapters 1-20. I made some of the changes in ch 21 and 22, but it will change the last 10 chapters of the book. So I’m going through each chapter before that, making any other kinds of changes I need to, and then probably tomorrow I’ll begin working on the last 10 chapters. And hopefully turn it in.

Then I have to proof the other book. They’re easy, just reading through, making sure there aren’t any mistakes made in the book written 10 years ago. Technology changes, so sometimes I need to update that. I wrote a book 20 years ago before cell phones were a thing. It makes such a difference. lol Now, everyone has to have a cell phone and you have to figure out how to “get rid of them” to put the characters in peril. I’ve had my editors telling me that I can’t have “blackout” areas where there is no cell service. But they exist. Not only in mountainous regions, but like from Waco, Texas to Houston, there’s an area where you can’t get any cell service. It’s like the Bermuda Triangle. Without the Bermuda and the Triangle.

Okay, before this gets any longer, I’ve got to get to work. As much as I wish the editing would get done without me, it just refuses.

Have a super, lovely day!! I’m going to enjoy the rain, but hobble down to the mailbox before it happens!

And I’m over halfway done on proofing Night of the Billionaire Wolf. Ninety pages to go! And here is the delightful cover for the book!

Fans’ Kitty Cats Love My Books!

You know how particular cats are! Thanks to my cat lovers and fans for sending me their adorable cat photos.

I’m off to finish making changes to Claiming the White Bear! I had another thought about Silver Town and had to incorporate it.

Oh, and so I was looking at plot ideas to give me a jump start to write the Wolff brother’s story, and one was: turn one of your dreams into a story. Are you kidding me????? You don’t even want to know about the bizarre dream I was having this morning.

Okay, off to edit!!!

Have a super day, and if anyone gets catty with you, sic one of the BIG cats on them.
