I Slept!

I have a hard time sleeping sometimes because I keep thinking of story ideas, or about stuff I have to do. I think making a list helped because I wrote it down and now I can get them done without worrying about getting them done.

I’m off to get my passport picture–it’s amazing how fast ten years fly, do my flu shot and hope I don’t get sick, and get all the light bulbs to light my way in the kitchen–and hope they have them in stock.

I have 4,000 words on Cougar Christmas Calamity so far, 76K words to go, but It’s a good start, and I was asked when I’m going to get another fae book out. *sigh* So many stories to write, so little time.

So I went to a 500,000 word generator site for fantasy, which can be used for anything, and have been used for everything–villain was once the protagonist’s best friend–I think of superhero stories–etc. Anyway, but they’re things I don’t think of, so maybe I can jump start a story. I have tons of covers for fae books. I just need to write them. Sometimes, if I’m not painting, I can write two stories at once, at least until I get them going, because I get stuck and spin wheels, but I can work on the other until I get stuck on it. It works when these books aren’t under an official deadline. What I don’t want to do is have 10 more books that are partway done. Finished books sell. Unfinished books are sad.

I was also looking for couple figures with a winter theme for the cover of Cougar Calamity Christmas. It helps to add to the story. I found one I love where she is wearing hot pink gloves and a hat, she’s a blond, and that was her favorite color in another story. He’s former Black Ops, moody, wears black, and in the picture he definitely isn’t. So it shows how she changes him in a good way. The cover helps me to describe him better, internally and externally.

Have a great day!! Mine is off and running in about a minute!

Cougar Halloween Mischief is Up and Running!

Ricky Jones is looking forward to his first day on the job as a deputy sheriff in the cougar-run town of Yuma Town, but he doesn’t expect to run into his former girlfriend while he’s wearing his cougar coat. Now he wants her back in the worst way, but he’s sure she’s going to be even madder at him for dumping her three years back.

Mandy Richards is on her way to an interview at a hospital north of Yuma Town for the position of a Licensed Practical Nurse when she hits a cougar in the thick foggy night, a full moon silhouetted in the gloom on Friday, the thirteenth. Checking on the wounded cougar changes her world forever.

But her most recent ex-boyfriend isn’t going along with Ricky’s plans to renew his relationship and things are bound to turn deadly.

We had violent storms yesterday and I put one of my dogs in the closet with his bed. He didn’t make a sound, so I think he felt safer. I had a standard poodle I gave a home to years ago that was terrified of storms. Her former owner had her sleeping on a covered metal porch and storms were magnified, poor thing. So she would sleep in my storm closet and was perfectly fine. A couple of times we curled up in there with her when we were living in Oklahoma too. More storms scheduled for today, and tomorrow for Halloween? 34-52 degrees. Brrrrr. But no storms. Thankfully.

I’m still working on edits on Red Wolf Christmas. I’m up to ch 10, and 20 chapters to go and an epilogue. My process is to go through the whole book and accept and delete all the small stuff. Then just make sure I’ve answered all the questions in the comments that I can. She often questions stuff throughout the book that are explained a few paragraphs down. You don’t hit someone in the eye with all the details right away. You have to show them as you write the story. Wait for it. Wait. Wait for it. There, see? It’s there. Sometimes something can be shown earlier, but not always.

This time, she wanted me to make some major changes. So they didn’t affect chapters 1-20. I made some of the changes in ch 21 and 22, but it will change the last 10 chapters of the book. So I’m going through each chapter before that, making any other kinds of changes I need to, and then probably tomorrow I’ll begin working on the last 10 chapters. And hopefully turn it in.

Then I have to proof the other book. They’re easy, just reading through, making sure there aren’t any mistakes made in the book written 10 years ago. Technology changes, so sometimes I need to update that. I wrote a book 20 years ago before cell phones were a thing. It makes such a difference. lol Now, everyone has to have a cell phone and you have to figure out how to “get rid of them” to put the characters in peril. I’ve had my editors telling me that I can’t have “blackout” areas where there is no cell service. But they exist. Not only in mountainous regions, but like from Waco, Texas to Houston, there’s an area where you can’t get any cell service. It’s like the Bermuda Triangle. Without the Bermuda and the Triangle.

Okay, before this gets any longer, I’ve got to get to work. As much as I wish the editing would get done without me, it just refuses.

Have a super, lovely day!! I’m going to enjoy the rain, but hobble down to the mailbox before it happens!

Randomness

Kate and Leyton Hill from Taming the Wild Cougar

On and off, I was playing around with a family tree for one of my character families. I’m going to try and make one for each of the cougar shifters because I have fans that play their characters in a FB group. How cool is that?

I had Keira here yesterday, so I was taking her for a walk, she was actually walking the whole way, needed to wear her out, and then we went shopping, and she feel asleep for 2 1/2 hours, and then we played in the sprinkler and Grandmomma got as wet as the toddler, only I wasn’t wearing a bathing suit, and then she played in the wading pool. And her momma was late picking her up, so I only managed about 600 words on the book. *sigh* I was trying for a 1,000 at least.

So when I went to blog this morning, I had to mention a pet peeve I’ve mine: changing something that’s not broken. So WordPress has changed something that forces me to take another step. I used to just select one thing and write my blog. Now I have to go to Write and then select which WordPress site I want to write on. If I wanted to write on one of the others, I would have opened up those sites. Another step doesn’t sound like much, but when I’ve got an active toddler here, or piranha dogs, yes, my little fluff balls are like piranhas, then it takes away from what I should be doing….uhm, writing, catching up, not catching up. Not only that, but look at all the time I wasted talking about my pet peeve?

I just had to get that off my chest. Now I can go on with my life.

Did I mention that a woman nearly pulled out in front of me at the grocery store and would have caused a car wreck?

She was stopped at the stop sign. I was watching her. I thought she wasn’t going anywhere.

She. Was. Stopped.

But she looked right and then saw no cars were coming, she pulled out.

Right. In. Front. Of. Me.

I was going really slow, parking lot, but I still had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting her because I wasn’t stopping. Because I wasn’t supposed to. I expected her to look left, to see me, like any good driver would do. But she didn’t. She just pulled out, and at that point, I was only inches from her!

I hit my horn, which was a lame thing to do because she was already in my way and not stopping. She looked at me like she just couldn’t believe a car was inches from her passenger door. Like, how did I suddenly materialize next to her car?

Duh.

Look BOTH ways, lady! Cars drive BOTH ways. The good thing was I didn’t hit her. And the second good thing was it was a valuable reminder to her to look both ways, because if I’d been like some of the drivers in parking lots, I would have been driving faster and hit her. Well, yes, of course, if I’d been speeding through the parking lot, I might have passed her before she pulled out, but who knows, right?

Okay, got that off my chest. Now I’m free to write. lol!

Have a lovely, accident-free day!!!!

Start the New Year’s Right!

Christmas is over and it’s time to begin thinking about the new year.

Drinking until late into the night? Forget that! Early to bed, early to rise…and welcome the new year in right! I’ll be puppy sitting, so there’s no sleeping all day anyway, even if I could!

So two of my cougar stories have New Year’s themes, one, at the beginning where she goes to an old ghost town looking for answers about criminal activities as she’s in law enforcement on New Year’s Eve, nothing better to do, and ends up in a gunfight and meets the cougar who will change her life forever. And the other ends with New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, and the trouble they have to deal with before they can get on with their lives in the new year.

A new year promises so much, to undo all the bad habits (ha!), and to make new ones (uhm, good habits, not new bad habits), to make new memories, to accomplish goals that have been put off, to start all over and make this year the best, or just to plug along and do what you’ve been doing all along, only having more fun along the way.

The new year can be daunting. For me, it means the beginning of having to write more deadline books, what do I write about now that’s new and different???? More teddy bear orders. They’re stacking up. And I haven’t finished writing Claiming the White Bear. *sigh*

But it’s also a time to take a breather or two and have fun. Hopefully, no category 5 hurricanes this year. We had snow too. Really bizarre for the Houston area. But great for pictures!

So Christmas is over, we had a really lovely time, and I’m ready for spring! Have a lovely day!!! I have to write!

Double Cougar Trouble is Done!

I’m still rereading to catch errors before I send it off to my beta readers. I was adding some things last night, and when I add, I always insert new mistakes. 🙂  So now I’m in final read this morning.

But my daughter and son’s grandfather died and my daughter is leaving her corgis off with me today, and I’ll have them for the weekend. I have my first podcast to do this afternoon. So with all the distraction, I might be thwarted. But I’m trying to read this before the craziness begins. I also have an RWA meeting to go to on Saturday, and a luncheon to go to on Sunday…but I hope to have this finished before all that comes up.

Yesterday, I HAD to go into town to get groceries. I was nearly out of potatoes. Is it my Irish background that craves them??? I also needed to take back a dog harness that I tried and tried and tried to figure out. I had gotten a different also, really easy, and fits the puppies just fine, so I needed to return it and get the other so I can walk both dogs when it gets COOL out again. So…that was it. Oh, and gas. I reach the brand new pet store and it has a sign out about grooming. And I think to myself, it would be nice to have the puppies groomed every once in a while. I brush them 2-3 times a day, but it about breaks my back to bend over the bathtub to wash both of them. And she was $20 less than another place I had checked with that is farther away.

tanner-groomer-900-068max-groomers-900-065She trimmed their nails, pulled hair out of their ears, or at least, maybe Max’s. He doesn’t grow much in his ears and I keep after it. But Tanner won’t hold still, so I need to work on his some more still. But the puppies smell nice, though Max was trying to rub off the nice smell. Tanner always poses for the camera. Max is going through a shy phase.

Still, it meant grabbing groceries and gas, running home, finding the puppies’ shot records, running them in, and then an hour and twenty minutes, she called me to say they were done. I hadn’t even had time to finish lunch. But I was glad to have them washed and fluffy for a day. 🙂

I’m not doing preorders on Double Cougar Trouble. When it’s finished completely, I’ll make it available for sale. 🙂

Trouble doesn’t always come in twos.

Jack Barrington still has an army obligation that takes him away from the woman who had enchanted him when they were both in college, but Dottie Hamilton refuses to marry a man in the military because of the problem of raising cougar shifter cubs in foreign lands and the worry he may be killed while overseas like her cousin was, leaving a wife and three little ones behind. When Jack returns home to see his family and Dottie’s only living relative, her aunt, she convinces Dottie to bring her twins home to see her—and to see him. Jack has two-and-a-half weeks to convince Dottie to wait for him while he finishes his last three months on active duty. And learns the truth. Dottie’s twins are his own flesh and blood.

Dottie has made a lot of mistakes in her life, including marrying a man to call the father of her children, who turns out to be an arms’ dealer. When Jack returns to her after finishing his army obligation, he’s determined to prove he’s the mate she needs in her life, and he has every intention of being the father to his four-year old twins. But now criminal deeds of Dottie’s dead, ex-husband have come back to haunt her. And she and Jack and their cougar friends will have to ban together to stop the arms’ dealers before they destroy what the cougars hold dear.

A Different Kind of Cougar…

Cougar Shifter

No, I don’t write about older woman with younger men. Not that I couldn’t, but that’s NOT the kind of cougars I write about. 🙂

So here are my cougar shifters of Yuma Town, Colorado.

They’ll welcome you to their town, and if they really, really take a liking to you, you might not be leaving anytime soon. But you might also have this strange urge to shift.

And the full moon won’t have a thing to do with it.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Have a wonderful day!!

New Releases! New Bears! Time Has Run Out…

KissOfTheVampire_TerrySpear

Kiss of the Vampire is now available with its new cover. The print version looks like it’s still not available with the new cover. They said 3-5 days and it was uploaded yesterday. It is also available in audiobook and still waiting for the cover to change on that.

Kiss of the Vampire

(Blood Moon Series, Book 1)

Category: Fiction » Young adult or teen » Romance » Fantasy

The motto of the vampires is that humans have to deal with problems on their own. But when Levka and his friends risk all to save human girls, he is injured and so the adventure begins. A cruise. A human girl who is terrified of water. And a vampire who has targeted her for his mate. But she has some secrets of her own.

Forced to take a cruise ship to babysit her foster sister, Caitlin has to face her own demons. But add to that her foster sister’s and her friend’s antics and Caitlin’s inability to use her witch’s magic over water and she has little hope to enjoy this trip. Until she meets a wheelchair-bound teen and wants to make friends with him in the worst way.

Levka and his friends make a hasty retreat from Dallas before the vampire elders stake them for getting involved in human affairs–again. But when he meets Caitlin on the cruise ship, hating that he’s so weak after being injured so severely that he has to use a wheelchair, he finds their troubles have just begun.

New Cover

The Vampire…In My Dreams is available in ebook. I’m still proofing the print version. And I just signed up the narrator for the audiobook version.

Proving a guy is a vampire for the glory it will bring seemed like a good idea.  At the time.  Until he needs Marissa Lakeland’s help to fight the vampire who made him the way he is.  No problem. She’s a witch.  Witches can handle it.  But vampires don’t exist, and there’s nothing in a witch’s training that deals with a creature that doesn’t exist.  So using her wits, she’ll manage, right?  If the creature of the night doesn’t get her first.  As a centuries-old vamp, Lynetta doesn’t lose ever, and she doesn’t intend to now.

Call of the Cougar is now available in ebook. I’m still proofing the print version. And I just signed up the narrator for the audiobook version.

Call of the Cougar FINAL WEB

Call of the Cougar: Looking for love can be dangerous…

Special Agent for the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife Services, Tracey Whittington, takes down wildlife traffickers and more, but what she doesn’t expect is to be in a shootout, multiple times, when the business turns deadly. Nor does she suspect she’ll be working with Hal Haverton, who serves as a part-time deputy for Yuma Town, Colorado, and runs his own horse ranch. As long as he doesn’t stop her investigative work—she has been placed on administrative leave due to the last shootout—she’ll be just fine.

Hal Haverton has every intention of keeping the wild cat safe, even if it means helping her to solve the case when every time he turns around, she’s involved in another shootout. When her boss asks their good friend, the sheriff, to have one of his deputies serve as a bodyguard for the cougar shifter, Hal’s all for it. So is the other deputy, but Hal’s got this covered. Even if getting somewhere with the lady means having his gun ready at all times. There are definite perks to getting to know the Special Agent better—if they live long enough to do something about it.

Ready for More Cougars? & A Giveaway!

cougars coming (640x427)

Many know I write wolf and jaguar shifters, but I wasn’t sure how well cougars would be received. Like with the exotic big cats, jaguars, and the wolves, with cougars, I do a ton of research to make the big cat shifters as realistic as possible based on their other animal half.

Cougar’s Mate has been well loved and so Call of the Cougar will be out by December. Earlier, if I can manage. I’m trying to finish up A Silver Wolf Christmas revisions today, then tomorrow start working on the end of Call of the Cougar. It’s nearly done! Just needs another 15,000 words and an ending. That helps, you know. 🙂 <3

And, I have one of the new Steampunk Bears completed–this one with a suede vest. All the ones I’m making now are sold. 🙂 <3 But this shows the faux leather hat I created for this bear also, and I’m making more of the same hat for the rest.

Steampunk Bear with Suede Vest

Steampunk Bear with Suede Vest

But after I complete orders, I’ll be making a new one that will be for sale.

So, to continue my giveaways to lead up to our release on Tuesday–if you’ve read my jaguar and cougar shifters, what do you like about the differences? If you haven’t read them, what do you think would be the advantage of loving one big cat shifter over the other? And who’s in favor of a bear shifter? One winner will receive an ebook copy of Cougar’s Mate.

If I do that, it will be a long time in the future! Swamped with other book writing have-to’s, but I love hearing what everyone wants to read. I wasn’t sure how well the jaguars would go over, because so many love the wolves. But they’ve been highly successful. Since cougars are so different, I wasn’t sure how they would manage. And they’re doing great! Bears are so lumbering, it’s hard to see them as hunky shifters, but I’m sure it could work somehow. 🙂

Off to work on A Silver Wolf Christmas and then turn it over to the next phase of the process.

And only 2 more days and Tall, Dark and Paranormal will be in your hot little hands! 🙂

A Way to Reach the Fae World & Impressionist Paintings–Photography Style

green fae world

Okay, so some might look at this and say eegads, that’s something I would have deleted from my camera. But wait! This is a really important picture.

You see, it was a totally cool tunnel of trees. We even saw a deer eating alongside the road. I tried to get a shot of it, but too late.  This was in Scotland on the way to our bed and breakfast. Loved it.

But what happened was we were almost sucked into the fae world. It’s true. One minute, we were in the human world, the next, we would have been hurdling into either the seelie or unseelie planes of existence.

So you see, this is not what you might think it is.

It’s beautiful. It transcends our day-to-day world.

Creek behind the bed and breakfast (640x480) (2)So here is a creek behind our bed and breakfast. It was beautiful. Reminded me of a hobbit home.

creek and old rock wall (640x480)

And the lovely rustic wall.

woods autumn Scotland (640x480)

And this is like an impressionist painting, photography style.

When I saw this, my first impression was it was really interesting, the fall colors, the birches bordering the creek, the way we get a glimpse beyond the foreground trees as to what’s beyond. I loved Scotland. It was awe-inspiring.

So see? Sometimes really clear shots are just boring. When something that’s not quite clear can be quite intriguing, don’t you think?

Okay, so I’ve been really busy setting up the Facebook party!

And so, it’s time to get to work!!!

bunny, dove, sparrow (562x640)

If it hadn’t been for the hose in the picture, but hey, it tells a story too–hot, hot, hot, and I’m out having to water before we’re on water restrictions, but bunny, sparrow and dove all together at the feeding “trough.” Isn’t that cute?

Okay, really off to write!
