Spring Means…

Okay, still behind on word count, but I’m so close to being done with word count for the entire book. So get with the program, I tell myself. Too many other distractions. Like, miniature yellow roses unfolding in all their glory. Here, our daffodils have already faded. But now it’s time for the early roses. Here I was, just minding my own business, making some more green tea so I could really concentrate on writing, and guess what I see out the window? Yep. It’s all the roses’ fault.

I’m really off to write now. Yes, I’ve been editing and that adds some word count, but it’s not the same as adding scenes. Yet the editing is just as important as writing the new scenes.

Sharp Shinned Hawk

A hawk hit my window, trying to catch a sparrow trying to catch a yellow jacket building a nest in the eaves while I was writing.

Unfortunately, the rain-soaked puppies were all curled up on my lap in towels and I couldn’t unload them fast enough to get my camera and get a shot of the hawk. He sat up on the roof for a moment as I looked at him and he looked at me. He appeared to be a different hawk than the one that was after my birds at the feeders last year, golden wings underneath, more golden outer feathers.

The one pictured was the one that I had last year. It might be the same hawk.

But the one I witnessed last night just looked lighter colored to me in the few glimpses I had of him than this one.

This is an interesting corner to observe wildlife. Doves court on the windowsill and my roadrunner would often sit there. I just never expected a hawk to come visiting in the front like that.

Okay, back to the business of writing. Still way behind on She-Wolf. Now remember, it’s due Jun 1, and hopefully today I’ll catch up and I’ll be halfway done with the book. My word count deadlines are meant to be WAY earlier than my actual deadlines. That’s because things happen, like having to stop to do edits on another book, taxes, life gets in the way. So my goal is it will be done in April before conferences intrude. 🙂

I’m already thinking of the next book too. I start doing that and so it’s sort of at the back of my mind, just trying to come up with scenarios for the book. With this one, I had NO synopsis. My editor just suggested the title, The Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing, and that’s it. Sold it, and what’s neat about that, is I can really just come up with a brand new story without any constraints. I love it.

That’s why I had so much fun with Hero of a Highland Wolf, just had an idea for a new wolf pack, and then tied it in with an “old” wolf pack, so I had some continuity.

Puppies and St Patrick’s Day Wishes!

5500 words behind, but we had puppy group training last night. Max was the smallest dog there among 3 german shepherds, another large dog and a blue tick healer. He barked at one of the dogs at first, but then settled down and we had a really great session for our very first group session with dogs there! 🙂 We wound around other dogs and their owners, greeted other dogs and their owners, walked in formation behind other dogs and their owners. All an exercise to keep the dogs under control while not being distracted by other dogs. He did really good on the round about stuff, greeting other owners, but when we had to walk past the dogs and their owners, he was pulling away a bit into the grass to get away from them. Following them or leading them he was fine with. But it’s our first session, so he’s doing great. 🙂 <3

Off to whittle down some more of the mss.

I’m certain Tanner has eyes. I’ve seen them on occasion, but rarely. Yesterday I pulled his hair back, trying to get a picture of it. And by the way, I do try to brush out his whiskers, but he’s still JAWS when it comes to the brush getting near his nose. The hairs are unruly curls, but that makes Tanner, Tanner.

Okay, I’m BEHIND on word count on She-Wolf, but that’s because I spent ALL day yesterday working on taxes. Really, I need to be better organized. Then my daughter mentioned that if I had energy efficient improvements made to the house–like a new water heater and the windows, (which truly have been great–no ice on the INSIDE of windows), and that means finding all the receipts. In the future, I need to really be better organized.

🙂 <3 Okay, working some on word count, and then back to taxes!

Spring is here in Central Texas. Not that we won’t have more bad weather, but love the hardy daffodils. 🙂

I thought I could get a better still shot if he was sleeping, but, nope. All his whiskers and eyebrows were fluttering in sleep. Can you see his nose?

Max’s beard is in that in between stage. It won’t lie down and instead crimps up in odd ways no matter how much I brush him, especially the hair around the eyes. It’s too short to pull up, and it needs to lie down and form his beard. Sometimes I can get it to behave, and then he shakes his head and we’re back to this. When it gets longer, it will probably be better.

I have to say that all dogs are different, just like people. Just like wolves. A wolf biologist was studying a pack of wolves and one had hair that went every which way. I thought that was funny, and so added it to one of my stories.

Off to write! Been keeping up with word count–20,000 words done on She-Wolf, figure they’ll change the title because I have a man on my covers all the time, with 60,000 words to go. 1/4 of the way done! And to think just a few days ago, I had just Chapter 1, the title, written.

It’s amazing what setting goals can do for a body–if I keep working at them.

I’m also working on 4 Matheson bears. I’ll be trying to get their heads together today–adding eyes, attaching the heads to the bodies. Tomorrow, it will be ear day. That’s 8 ears to sew on, and I’ll sew up their backs. Once that’s done, need noses, and it’s time to embroider their paws, finish their hats, and sew them on and their sashes on. The sashes are ready to go.

Also, we’re having a FB party for Kissing the Highlander. Lots of my ancestors were born and raised in Ireland. One was Welsh and he married into the Kelly family, which is like Smith is in the States. My Hawthorns were also there, and one of them was born on a ship crossing the Irish Sea, then others were born in Scotland.

It is said that the MacNeills descended from the Irish king, Niall of the Nine Hostages. My MacNeills and Campbells were from Scotland, but what if the MacNeill had originated from Niall, the Irish king? Possibly. So I’m all for celebrating St Patty’s Day! It’s in celebration of our Kissing the Highlander anthology!

MacGregor Bear! Puppies’ Topknots! A Toad! Talk about Being Random!

Three bears down, 7 to go. They’re all in process, like my current book.

I got up at 2 to take the puppies out. Tried the no leash trick. They had baths last night, so they didn’t sleep like they usually do. Tanner came right back to me. Max did, then ran off to explore some more. So I won’t do the no leash thing again. Not until Max is fully trained. Which is going to take a while.

Between days of ice and snow, workmen being out here, and then two days of pouring rain, my cupboards were bare. No treats for the puppies. No seed for the birds, and worst of all, no chocolate for me. Writers can’t live without chocolate! At least, not this one.

And I realized that it’s EASTER coming up! Which means Cadbury chocolate creme filled chocolate eggs. 🙂

Puppies and Topknots

Soooo I spent two hours running errands, shipping 3 bears, picking up stuff for my next readers convention, etc, and that meant that last night, I was behind on my word count. Partly because I was setting up another FB party to celebrate St Patty’s Day, and because I had given both puppies baths.

Now, I really did get my word count. I wrote the remaining 600 words by hand last night, and voila, at 2 am, I typed them out and yes!! I made it.

And look what we found when we went outside yesterday! Well, I found him. Max ran his nose right over him and didn’t see him.

And that’s all I have to say at 2 in the morning. Puppies are in their crate grumbling because I’m not coming back to bed. Well, Max is, just a little. They’re not barking. Usually Tanner will yip if I don’t come back, but he’s gone to sleep, which is the way it should be. Max gave up on me. I think.

I keep using up my internet time because of the cloud saving my stuff, so thought I’d post this during my “free” usage time. Since I was up anyway.

She-Wolf–Next….

Okay, so I sell on a plot synopsis. A short synopsis. A couple of paragraph synopsis. And since I’m nearly finished with A SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble–one of my beta readers suggested moving a couple of things around, to which I said I had NO TIME. Because I’m due at my daughter’s house soon and then won’t have time to write. I’m afraid I might be keeping dogs from fighting the whole time I’m there, *sigh*, but hope they’ll get along. BUT, I made the time because I want the best book out there, and so she and I were going back and forth on how to fix the issues last night, and I’ve been rewriting this morning. 🙂

And now that it is really nearly done, I’m opening up a file on the next book. I’ve made a start. I opened up a file for the next book. Yes. That’s it. The first step. Without it, no file, no book. And I opened one on the next one because here I thought I had already for this one and hadn’t. So I’m a step ahead. One thing was finding my blurb to remember what I said I was going to write about. That was like two books ago. And I have 3 more I’m writing.

Then, I typed in the title, which will probably change. And my name. Which most likely won’t. And….yes, Chapter 1. That’s it. The book is started. and I have 80,000 words to go. Well, 79,995 technically. Hey, every word counts. I need to add my bio and that will add a few more words.

But on SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble, it ended up at 90,000 words and I haven’t even added my bio, acknowledgements or dedication. So I know I can do it.

I just have to take baby steps. I have to get to work on the dreaded taxes, and I still need to put Phantom Fae in print form, and I need to send off SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble after any other changes are made on Monday. And then it’s nose to the grindstone on working on She-Wolf.

First, since it’s a romance, I have to think of how they’ll meet–hero and heroine. Since it’s a werewolf story, I have to have the wolfishness show early too…one running as a wolf, or some such thing. And I’ll have to show the conflict early on.

That’s my Mission Impossible, and I’m stepping up to the challenge, as soon as I can. This book is due Jun 1, so no time to lose. 🙂
