Sun Dogs and Moss and Creating Fantasy Backgrounds…

None of the goldfinch pictures I took of the goldfinch sitting among the new leaves of the rosebush really were clear, so I used Topaz Studio to create a new image. Where there’s a will…

Have I mentioned how much I love moss? It reminds me of fairy gardens. And the clover adds to the fairy feel. Every time I take the dogs out now, I pull weeds and grass, but sometimes I see something that is beautiful. Like the moss tucked in corners of the garden. And lots of half-hidden toadstools. A fairy garden for sure!

I was about to shut everything up for the night when I noticed a sun dog in the clouds at sunset! And that meant running out and taking some more pictures.

This morning I was having issues–everything was hanging up–the internet, photoshop…I was in a perpetual “Not Responding” Mode. Don’t you hate it when you’re at full speed ahead, but your computer isn’t?????

So I keep seeing beautiful fairy gardens that people have created from pictures, and I want to do that. It’s just something I play with occasionally, watch a ton more videos and try some more ideas.

The original picture was a walk in a park when the baby was a newborn. It was sunny and hot. I added galaxy stars and that toned it down to a darker picture with some light still and shadows and sparkles that make it look more fairy like. Then I added clouds with a sunset and that darkened it to more of a reddish tone. And a sunbeam and that gave light to the shrubs.  It’s just a case, for me, of experimenting on what I can do. 🙂 <3

But now, it’s time to get back to writing! Have a great day!!!

A Fairy Garden, Au Natural!

Mushrooms, moss and wildflowers in their natural state

Mushrooms, moss and wildflowers in their natural state

A lot of fairies in this fairy village

A lot of fairies in this fairy village

Folks pay a lot to create fairy gardens, but mine just suddenly appeared! I didn’t even notice the moss until I looked at the photos on the computer.

Magic pink rhododendron flowers on summer mountain. Dramatic overcast sky. Carpathian, Ukraine, Europe. Beauty world.

The World of Fae

Having a wee bit o’ fun with taking a break and creating a picture while I’m writing The Viking’s Highland Lass. I’ve pitched 3 books to my editor and she’s taking them to the acquisitions meeting. So if they sell, I’ll be on deadline again. Right now…I’m free!

Off to write.

Have a super great and wonderfully fantastic Friday!

I Wasn’t Going to Blog Today, But….

I just got word I’m up at USA Today’s Happily Ever After Today talking Scotland and how I used it for settings in my books.

moss stone (640x480)

This is moss on stone in Scotland. I love moss. In Texas, you have to pay a lot of money to buy a mossy stone. LOL

I know. It’s amazing what fascinates me. This reminds me of a faery world.

Her Highland Hero
Lady Isobel is a Norman laird’s daughter, living near the Scots border where her father, Lord Pembroke, is trying to keep the peace. But her mother was a Highlander and the man Isobel loves most of all is Laird Marcus McEwan, who has been bringing news of her mother’s people for years. But now Isobel’s father wishes her wed to an English nobleman, who will carry on his title. Isobel will wed no other man but her heart’s desire—and that is one braw Highlander from her mother’s homeland.
Laird Marcus McEwan has loved the feisty lass forever. For years, Marcus has tried to convince Lord Pembroke to allow him to wed his daughter. But the Norman lord will not allow it. Then ambushes and murders make it too dangerous for Marcus to reach a peaceful resolution.

Nothing goes as planned and keeping the lass for his own is fraught with danger, as they try to determine who was behind the killings. Isobel and Marcus will do everything in their power to ensure they are together as they have always vowed they would be.

So you see why I had to blog today?

When all I thought I was going to do was catch up on student lessons AND work on finishing up A Silver Wolf Christmas. All kinds of folks are vying for a say in whodunit. I’ve got to figure this out! 🙂  <3 The fun part is coming up with the end, and then editing it to make sure it’s the best it can be. No loose ends. No walk-on, walk-off characters, no plot holes. 🙂

Okay, off to do it! Goal is to have the book done by Sunday (word-count wise). It always ends up being 6-8,000 words longer than I expected…but shooting for the minimum by Sunday.

Have a super great Labor Day!

I’m off to labor. What about you?

Really Bizarre and Totally Fascinating

At least to me.

I’m usually fairly observant about things around me. So yesterday when I was taking photographs of birds being birds, I suddenly saw the tree in front of me. Not the birds. Not anything else, but the tree. It had character. Age spots. Old moss, new moss, it was beautiful. More interesting at that moment than anything else in the world.

I wondered why I  hadn’t noticed it before. How could I have missed it? It’s big as day standing right in front of the window! Well, I did what I usually do when I find something fun and interesting, I took pictures, still not believing I hadn’t seen it before.

Have you seen Limitless? It’s violent, but it has an interesting premise–that a chemical substance can tap into all those unused brain cells of ours and make us see more clearly. The man whose story is being told is an unpublished writer who has an advance to write a book (remember I mentioned fantasy??? And how sometimes we just have to go with the story???) and he’s not written a single word and can’t. This had been going on for months. With this pill, he suddenly has the clarity to write the book in four days. And it’s brilliant. Well, it’s a dark story, but I felt like him yesterday, looking at that tree and wondering why I had never seen the beauty of it.

moss and cardinals 005 (640x427)

I just want you to know it has NOTHING to do with me. Today when I went to get my cup of green tea, it is a gray tree, nothing more.  I need another one of those pills!

In reality, what happened? Somehow the sun and the moon and the shadows and nature revealed the beauty of that tree, and then, the combination of these things went away. And now it looks like it usually does. Nondescript and the birds have all the attention again.

So if something like that catches your eye, and you think how utterly bizarre that you hadn’t noticed it before, capture it, because it may never happen again. 🙂
