That’s So Random, Mom

No, I didn’t say that to my mom. My daughter used to say that to me.

Yes, that’s me. Totally random.

Here are today’s random thoughts.

A beautiful sunrise!

Sunrise in Texas

Sunrise in Texas

A Peacock Bear!

Working on bear orders, but was too excited and wanted to make this up.

Peacock Bear in early morning light

Peacock Bear in early morning light

Peacock Bear next to peacock boxes

Peacock Bear next to peacock boxes

And for more cool randomness, how’s this?

Ever look for a plastic container and its lid? That’s what I was doing this morning, after taking care of the puppies, the garbage, taking pictures of the sunrise and peacock bear, next, it was time for breakfast. That means cottage cheese, pineapple and a cherry on top. But I needed to put the pineapple slices from the newly opened can into a plastic container. (I’ve read where it’s bad for you if you leave the opened item in a can in the fridge.)  So I have one that is perfect. Actually a round glass one, but I have it in the dishwasher. So I open the cabinet WAY above the fridge that I can’t reach even with a stepping stool, and finally managed to pull down an assortment of plastic containers. Many are my parents’. Lids, no containers. Containers, no lids. Two were mine with lids. One is huge and I used it even though it’s so big. And the other too small.

It’s time to get rid of some plastic containers. I don’t just throw them in the trash though. Someone might be able to use lids for something else, or the containers, painting, water dishes for a pet.

The other day I was watering. And I had chased fire ants out of their home. I didn’t realize it, but they were in a long winding trail on the patio. And when I got inside, one was stinging me, biting away, angry. They really hurt. So I was looking for something to put on it. Found a spray for bug bites, squirted it out and yuck! It was icky brown in color.

That led to me looking all over for bug bite spray, finally used rubbing alcohol. But it meant I also have tons of old stuff that needs to be thrown out!!! So sometimes I guess the expiration date does mean something! Though, I don’t think they had any expiration date on the can. Probably too many hundreds of years old. lol

Oh, and no, I didn’t leave the fire ants alone. I’m afraid to use fire ant killer anywhere that my puppies are nosing around. So I boiled water over and over and over again, and believe me, that kills the ants. I read where you can take a scoop of fire ants from one mound and put them on another, and they will kill each other. Right. Like I want to move an angry lot of fire ants from one mound to another without getting myself bitten to death. I have no idea where they’re located. I haven’t seen any mounds, except for a small one by the mailbox.

So is that random enough???

Now I’m done with my random musings and off to write!

Does anyone ever accuse you of switching subjects without warning and say, “That’s so random?”

More bears for orders! I have a new MacGregor order I need to make up also now.

But I have to say that after I made the mistake of using weed AND grass killer on my bur weeds, though MOST of my yard was bur weeds, choking out the grass, and I killed off areas of bur weeds AND the grass…then picked up weed ONLY killer, I have GRASS!!!!! It’s beautiful. I never thought it would work that well.

For a long time, the bur weeds looked like they were as healthy as ever, but then they started to turn a little black, and then the grass took over, yes, even where I killed it, and when I was out with the puppies yesterday I realized—I have GRASS! And it’s soft and beautiful. The puppies have grass to walk on instead of bur weeds that were attaching to their fur and paws. They still get a few, but not like they were before. 🙂  I’m not much for chemicals, but with having to take the puppies out in the grass all the time, I had to do something. Every time it rained, I was pulling up the bur weeds, but they were too extensive and the area too massive to work on.

So I’m pretty much weed free. I’ll have to keep monitoring it as I’m sure some of the weeds will propagate again, but now that the grass has really taken hold, it’s helping to keep the weeds at bay also.

And it was so easy!

Off to write. I began a new opening on Billionaire, and it ties in with the original opening, so we’re good!

Have a super great day!

The Computer is Back Up and Running!

Morning sky and sun's rays

Morning sky and sun’s rays

I wanted to see how well the phone camera would work outside, so I took a picture of the sun’s rays and the clouds. I didn’t think it was bad if I wanted to just take the puppies out and capture a fun setting for…fun. I saw a beautiful sunset last night when I took the puppies out, but by the time I’d get them corralled back in the house, the sunset would have lost its beauty. So I will try to capture one on my phone tonight if it works out that we have a lovely one again tonight.

With my camera, I couldn’t have gotten such close-ups. The puppies were right on top of me. And of course as soon as I started trying to take pictures, they got even closer. The detail is amazing.

Max, the smaller version of a sheepdog

So what have the puppies come up with? That one of them should get the girl, and not some hot billionaire wolf. Even if the heroine’s a wolf. The problem is Max and Tanner are disagreeing about which of them should get the hot she-wolf. *sigh*

And that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 🙂 <3

Have a super great day!

The sunrise was so brightly pink this morning, I had to run back in the house, dragging puppies behind me to grab my camera. Good thing they’d already been out once today so we’re fine with a morning jog.

Had a picture of a tired puppy last night, but can’t find it on the computer, and the camera’s battery is in charging mode. So will share later. 🙂 <3

Have a great Sunday!

Off to work!!

Life of a Cornfield

And I caught a bunny and the sunrise this morning while taking the pictures of the cornfield harvest. Note my yard is littered with corn!

cornfields cut down 004 (640x437)

cornfields cut down 005 (640x427)

Dry cornfields can be a fire hazard. And yet, it was kind of nice having my “forest” of cornstalks surrounding the place. Nice and private from my neighbors and the traffic along the road. And though we don’t have a lot of noise out here, what little we do have was also absorbed by the cornstalks. It also provided cover for the wildlife. So now…it’s just earth again. Or it will be when they finish plowing the fields.

And that is the life of a cornstalk field. They don’t plant it often, so it was fun having it for a change. 🙂 <3

Off to write and make bears. Another order! Got my word count on Cougar, but long way to go before it’s actually finished. 🙂

Have a super lovely weekend!

City Lights and a Sunrise High in the Sky!

I was flying so early the one morning, I actually got to see both the beautiful city lights and the sunrise. I’ve never seen that on a flight. So I wanted to share!

Another great review!
Love this review by Cassandra of Lost in Books: As usual, Terry Spear has another action packed story. Her descriptions are always awesome, so you can imagine everything happening as you go through the story. This story was so much better than I’d imagined which was idiotic of me because I should have known with Terry’s name on it that it would be awesome. But I was leery because it wasn’t one of my shifter books, they are my favorite.

Deidre is a fantastic character. I love how she handles herself and everything life throws her way including her visions. I really liked Dave as a character. Deidre’s brother and Dave’s co-workers added plenty of humor in the midst of all the action. http://closkot.blogspot.com/2014/08/audible-review-bound-by-danger-by-terry.html

I’m behind in my writing, again. But I’m catching up little bit by little bit. 🙂

My goal: 40,000 by Sunday!

When Sun Meets Moon

sunrise and clouds (640x427)

I was out watering when I saw this beautiful sunrise. Now, I could say these are reeds in front of a beautiful lake, or on sand dunes in front of the ocean and off in the distance is a small island. Or I could tell the truth and say it’s a field of burned up corn (as in dried out, not blackened) and the acres beyond that right before the sun makes it’s appearance.

sunrise and clouds (2) (640x427)

And here it is, just peeking out. And right directly overhead of where I was standing, was the moon. So the sun was chasing the moon. Don’t you love the difference between the brilliant orange of the sun, the burning hot clouds and sky and the cool blue sky, soft snowy clouds, and snowy moon?

moon half (640x427)The clouds were soft, windswept high, high in the sky.

And finished making the bears for a special order. Still need to embroider their paws. 🙂

Aren’t they beautiful? Did anyone notice it got to be Wednesday already? How did that happen???

I lost 2,000 words on my mss. And how did that happen? I’ve been having trouble with saving, so I redownloaded my Word. But I thought I had saved Call of the Cougar before I left, it’s supposed to be saving every minute, and I sent the “saved” file to my email before I left, and when I got home, 2,000 words were missing.

All of ch 13.

Spooky music begins here.

Thankfully, I had printed out those pages (so I knew I wasn’t crazy) and had chapter 13, at least in printed form. And there were my 2,000 words.

So not sure what’s going on, but I’m saving as a new title now, to ensure I don’t have a heart attack again. 🙂 <3

Off to work on A Silver Wolf Christmas. Only 16,000 to go on Call of the Cougar, but I’m worried about meeting the deadline on A Silver Wolf Christmas…priorities, priorities!

Came up with the idea for 2 stories to pitch also, but still trying to come up with the 3rd. 🙂

Have a super great Wednesday! It was miraculously cool here this morning and I took a picture of the sunrise in Texas, the North Star and another star below it.

sunrise and the North Star (640x427)

I was just taking out the garbage–mundane life–when I saw this dramatic sunrise, and all of sudden the mundane was no longer the mundane. 🙂

And I was surprised to feel how wonderfully cool it was when we’re going to have 100s all week.

And while I was watering the new shrubs, the birds were gathering all over the  electric lines. Yesterday, I took a video of them as they were so excited to play in the water while I was watering some shrubs around the back patio. It was fun to see them playing when before that, they had vanished.

Do You See the Light???

azaleas 001 (800x533)Sunrise in Central Texas

I’m a total pantser, seat of the pants writer, and I couldn’t plot  a book for the life of me. I never could write the outline before I did a paper when I was in school either. I would always write the paper and then write the obligatory outline. Why do teachers make us conform to some rule that doesn’t work for everyone??? For some, organizing their thoughts in an outline works. But others… I begin to research my subject and want to go in a totally different direction. So, too, sometimes, when I’ve pitched a book and sold based on two paragraphs. The story evolves in a different direction than I planned for it to go.

That sometimes happens because of research I’ve done. Even though my werewolf books are urban fantasy, in that you know that werewolves don’t live among us, as you shouldn’t–they’re not meant to be discovered, right?–but they do live within the parameters of our world and are based on real wolf behavior… As much as werewolves can be real wolf-shifting humans.  This means that sometimes I create a town for them to live in and other times I have them live in real places.

But other times, the characters–since my stories are character-driven and for romance need to be–take over and run with the story. Well, oftentimes they do. I’ll be going along, happy as can be, throwing wonderful obstacles in their path, causing them all kinds of stress, and suddenly, they change the rules. Now, you might think that’s a bad thing. I know what I’m doing. They don’t.

On the other hand, it makes for some nice twists in the plot and so I allow them free rein as long as they assure me they can reach that happily ever after, which is what they want more than anything else in the world, too. 🙂

So yesterday, as I again spent another day of trying to force the direction of my plot, I took a moment out of my deadline-packed schedule, had lunch with a friend, saw a movie, came home, did NOT want to write, since I’ve been at this for weeks, and watched another movie.

And something hit. I really, really was going to watch another movie. I just was having too much fun. But the light dawned, the problem I’d been seeking came to me, and I began to write again.

Sometimes, just stepping away from the problem can be the best thing we can do!! And then, that moment of clarity will come.

Other times, if the deadline is approaching and letting the muse find me is not a viable option, just pushing forward and brainstorming with others, listing 20 ideas of where this could go, etc, can sometimes give the direction I need to go.

So I’m off to write! Ever give up on something you’ve been hassling with and can’t seem to find a solution, and voila, there it is???
