Flowers Blooming Before Christmas & Woodland Fae is Out!

I noticed gerbera daisies blooming the day baby was here so ran out to take some pictures yesterday. The droplets of water on them are from the heavy fog we had.

Lavender lantana, gerbera daisy, yellow daylily, dianthus next to the Christmas lights, and another daisy.

The flowers don’t know it’s winter and time for them to sleep.

Baby’s here for one more day before my daughter has school break and then Grandma gets a break! Or…well, more time to write and edit.

Woodland Fae

Letta is a scorpion fae, pretending to be a woodland fae, since her own kind had practically annihilated their own. She’s come of age and must leave her kind behind to make her way in the world. Taking refuge in a cave during a storm in wolf fae territory, she’s attacked by a wolf shifter fae and saves another’s life, who happens to be the pack leader’s sister. But now Letta has a new problem. The bite she’d received turns her into a wolf shifter also, but will the wolf fae pack accept her or scorn her for being one of the deadly scorpion fae if they learn the truth?

Simon is the pack leader for the Wolf Mountain pack and he’s unsure what kind of fae Letta is, not having heard of a woodland fae before. Yet he’s attracted to Letta like he’s never been to a she-wolf before. That causes dissent among some of his wolves who believe another wolf should be his mate and he must prove to his pack that he has what it takes to lead.

Foggy Day

Having the usual problem with internet connections and a sluggish computer, but we have lovely fog this morning. Those are my red roses and it’s only a week until Christmas.

I’m working on proofing Woodland Fae…on chapter 7. Only got 6 pages done yesterday while baby was here! But 6 chapters done after she left. I also worked on Claiming the White Bear a little. Still trying to figure out how to do a good job with furry edges on beasts that I use in composites. I need more time in the day!!!

I Had an Epiphany!

Okay, so this morning I realized I HAD to write a prologue for Claiming the White Bear. It has been nagging at me for a while now. Some editors don’t like them. But there are times when you can TELL about something and other times when you just have to SHOW it. And that’s what I realized. I found myself telling about why the couple were in the mess they were in and it doesn’t have half the impact of showing how they got there.

That meant the whole world of a difference to me, and all of a sudden, I had 4,000 words written yesterday. If I hadn’t taken a break to go to a lovely Christmas cookie party, I would have had more done. Now baby’s here today. I also worked on the beta readers’ edits and now have to re-read the whole book one more time and then publish it. Soooo, I had an epiphany, which is great, but why couldn’t I have had it four days ago when I was struggling to finish this book?

lol All in good time. All right, I’m off to watch baby.

  • Mother Goose brings the Polar Bear Cub

    So I’m still working on edits on Claiming the White Bear to figure out where I’m going with the story. I’m almost to 50K, so I need to know how I’m going to end it. Still trying to work that out. In the meantime, my last beta reader has finished with reading Woodland Fae, so I’m going to finish the changes to that and try to publish it soon. Thanks to Darla and Donna for all their help!! And, I keep thinking about the next stories I have to write! My contracted books: the first up–Silver Town Wolves, this time with the new wolves who established the ski lodge. So I need to come up with a cool, snowy story for them, danger, love, wolves, the usual fun stuff.  But I was also trying to think up a story for a novella for the 10th anniversary of Legend of the White Wolf…

    Soooooo, lots of writing ahead and I need to get going!

    The Grinch Who Stole My Time…

    I went to post on Wednesday before baby got here, which makes it nearly impossible to do and got a network error. Tried later. Network error. Later. Same thing. With watching baby and running dogs in and out, and having to take her to her mother’s work to see Grinch-themed gingerbread cakes at Spring ISD, and decorated doors in the Nutrition Center, and have a Christmas party, I didn’t have time to mess with it. I’d shut my computer down twice, still no resolution. So later that night, I finally managed to reinstall Firefox and I was up and running.

    Then in the middle of the night, violent thunderstorms hit and I was up, disconnecting my main PC and laptop, and couldn’t sleep because of the storm. I ended up taking video of the lightning and rain.

    I managed finally to get 2500 words done on Claiming the White Bear yesterday. But I totally missed doing the blog again!

    So here it is, Friday already and the Grinch stole two of my days! Seriously!

    But I’m going to get him back and show him I can make up for it with my writing today. Really.

    Took Time to Play

    A pelican doing a dance. A walk on the boardwalk at the zoo.

    I took my grand-daughter to the reading program they had at the Woodlands Mall Barnes and Noble, but most of the kids were about 4 years old and she’s only 20 mos. Needless to say, she sat still for 2 books and by the third, she was ready to get into the coloring pages. So we left. The lady had to read three more books and that wasn’t going to work for us. lol

    We had lunch, I signed books, and I showed her all the cool stuff at the mall. She actually showed me the sculpture of the bird each time we passed through that way and I finally took a picture of it. It’s huge. But that was her favorite sculpture.

    And she fell asleep on the way over there and on the way back, so good day! Plus, she helped me to put pine needles on the flowerbed while I raked.

    But, I didn’t get any writing done. Some days are just a time to play.

    Not to Spoil a Fantasy, but…

    Being a Fairy Princess

    When I was a child, I wanted to be a fairy princess…but then you grow up and you learn that castles take a lot of upkeep–taxes, maintenance, and well, upkeep. Can you imagine dusting it? And then there are the fairy gardens. Having gardens of my own, that never look like this, I know just how much work they are.

    And even if you could afford to hire all of it done, then you have all the issues of hired labor–insurance, salaries, grumbling.

    But in a fairy-tale world? They don’t mention all of that. Okay, speaking of the real world, just fed baby and we’re going to take a walk in the cold, but it’s finally light out enough. But you know what? We’ll be fairy princesses on our walk because we can be.

    Have a great one!!! Be a prince or a king or a queen or a princess. You can be! And have fun.

    Watch out for the Vultures

    I think of death and dying when I think of vultures, and these poor critters are in trouble. But really, the vultures are scavengers, cleaning up the leftovers, so these animals are just living in a symbiotic relationship.

    My mom and dad had a great sense of humor, and they were horror fans, so one year, my mom got my dad the cutest stuffed vulture, and they used to switch it from her pillow to his. You see where I get my humor from now? It’s not my fault!

    Hope everyone is enjoying their day. We had pouring rain all day and night and were under flash flood warnings. And I got 4,000 written on Claiming the White Bear, over halfway done. Yay!

    Off to work, have a wonderful day and if the vultures start circling, maybe it’s not you they’re after. Maybe…
