Gold Pears, Gold Leaves and Other Fall Colors

Isn’t nature beautiful? It puts on a stunning display for us even if we ignore what’s going on around us because we’re just too busy to notice. I just happened to catch sight of one of my pear trees with a cascade of bright yellow leaves.

And red berries just showed up on some of my plants to provide birds with something to eat for the winter, but it always reminds me of Christmas cards and green leaves and red berries.

And crepe myrtles in fall colors. They’re “evergreen” so don’t drop their leaves, but many of them will turn burgundy in the winter.And jasmine in fall colors–I had never seen some turn pink like this!

They usually are more of the rusty color, like at the bottom of the picture, or a burgundy color also.

Praying Mantis–Pregnant?

I was working on a story, really, but a praying mantis was on the window screen right in front of me, so naturally since I don’t see them very often, I had to take some pictures. She was doing all kinds of acrobatics, but I only managed to get out and take pictures when she was straightened out again for the most part. I really was trying to stay focused on the book.

And she was “praying” at one point. Really interesting to watch, when I should have been totally focused on writing. But hey, maybe she will be in a book sometime! 🙂

I was told that as big as her abdomen is, she might be a pregnant praying mantis. Cool, eh???

It’s All Relative

It’s freezing here. Okay, for Texas, for me, it’s freezing here. When we’ve had such hot weather, and then the temps drop drastically, it’s cold. Frost was all over the ground, so it was cold. It’s not just my vivid imagination. 🙂

The puppies curl up together all the time whether it’s hot or not, and I wanted to turn on the heat, but I can’t make myself do it. My electric bill shoots way up. So I put on more clothes and just enjoyed the cold. And the puppies are curling up together even more now. They used to sleep in the same crate which kept them warm. I might have to put little blankets in their crates so they’ll stay toasty warm when it gets really cold. One can sleep out of his crate in his bed, and he’s done it on and off for weeks now, which is warmer then the liners in their crates. Not sure I trust Tanner yet.

Oh, and Tanner turns one years old this month, but yesterday, look what he found!

Yep, he’s still a puppy and up to his old tricks. But now, he’ll just pose for a picture, and then he’ll release what he’s found and I don’t have to turn him upside down to get him to release it without a struggle. My baby is growing up. lol I do have a time with him as far as grooming though. His fur is so thick, though silky, and Havanese don’t shed. I brush them daily, but he’s terribly matted still from the stay at the kennel. Max is good. He sleeps on my lap while I groom him and his fur is thinner so easier to maintain.

Pink Rainbow Bear with pink ultra suede paws

Last bear order! Still need to write a Christmas blog but I was working on my next cover for the next book in the Heart of the Cougar series. I wanted something really colorful, spring-like, different from the other covers so no one would mistakenly pick up the same book twice. It has conflict right away, and it will have mystery, suspense, humor, romance, just like all the other books. 🙂 Not sure when I will have time to write it, but it will have to be next year.

What Kind of Bird is it?

I’ve never seen bluebirds ever. But I kept seeing birds flying around the window when I had the blinds open. They’re after bugs caught in the corner of the house. I thought they were just a bunch of sparrows. So I finally pulled up the blinds so I could watch them while I was typing on my story. Yes, I was really writing. Trying to write. Hey, I got my word count and one of the promo blogs done. 🙂

But I was so surprised to see bluebirds, I had to try and take pictures of them. This is through a screened window, so not the best shots, but still, I was thrilled. But then I saw another bird, not sure what it was. A mockingbird also flew in there, but the bluebirds chased him off. And then I’m not sure what the other bird was on the roof. It looked different from the other on the roof that I believe is the same bird underneath the eves, a small gray and black banded bird with pale yellow feathers on it’s belly and throat. It looks white in some pictures, but it was actually yellow.

It’s not a sparrow. I have tons of those and it’s not the same.

Don’t you love how the raindrops were reflecting the color of the red berries? I said I was going to try capturing raindrops soon, but it started raining BIG raindrops on me and I had to go back inside.

And that’s my secret, but I’m not saying. Because then it wouldn’t be a secret, would it? Do you think I’ve been working too hard lately?

I took this out the kitchen window because when I go outside, the butterflies flutter around like crazy. These seem to be the most common I’ve seen out there. They love the fermenting pears.

Though I shot the pictures of the puppies at different times, they make the perfect pairing. I have to take some of these shots with the phone because if I move around too much, I lose the shot. They were so good that they waited for me to take the shots. Often, they will jump down and come to greet me.

Fog, Fog, and More Ghostly Fog!

I love fog, though when I was running around with the puppies outside in it, taking pictures, I walked through something….ewwwww, and had white stuff all over my hair. Ewwwwww. Didn’t look like spiderwebs, but…ewwwww. That’s the hazard of taking pictures when it’s still gloomy out….who knows what creepy things lurk in the fog, eh?

Jaguar Christmas is done! Bonnie gave me the absolute perfect Christmas gift for my characters!!! I turned it in, and now I’m back to working on The Viking’s Highland Lass. 🙂

Steam or a Ghost?

I’ve never caught heat rising off food, ever, so is this really heat??? Or something…else? A pizza-loving ghost?

Fog over Lake Waco

On the way home yesterday from Houston, the fog was so thick, I could barely see. On the way out to Houston, the thunderstorms were raining so hard, I could barely see. Hmmm, I believe that makes for the perfect Halloween travel. Not great for driving, but perfect for that spooky feel. I envisioned all the spooky shows I was watching while at my daughter’s, Sleepy Hollow, Shutter Island, and others–pouring rain, foggy days.

By the time I got home, the fog was patchier, like this. But before that, it was a blanket of fog. Great for writing vampire stories and about other things that go bump in the spooky fog.

Okay, I’m back to proof-reading Jaguar Christmas. Almost done. Since it’s a Christmas story, I’m thinking I need to have them give each other Christmas presents, yet, is it too much of the same-o, same-o? I don’t just give them Christmas presents, or, ahem, they give each other Christmas presents, but something that really means something. That’s what makes it special. And if I add anything, it has to be important in some way.

And…it’s not coming. So I’m nearly at the end of the story, and still can’t come up with the perfect Christmas presents. *sigh* Maybe…they don’t need any!
