Silkie Bantam in Okinawa

Having so much fun with the photos I took in Okinawa!

Still in the deep freeze at 20 degrees, though that’s much better than 7 degrees yesterday, but we’re supposed to get to 45 later today and 66 tomorrow! Weird weather.

I managed to add 2,000 words to Dreaming of the Highland Wolf yesterday, turned in Mated for Christmas edits, and am still waiting for Night of the Vampire to come out on Apple.

All my tomato plants and bell pepper plants succumbed to the cold, as did the lantana and other flowering plants. My roses froze. I had icicles all over the ground where they’d fallen off the roof.

I’m off to work on the story! Have a beautiful day!

Silkie Bantam in Okinawa

I added the flowers but left some of the volcanic rock that was so prevalent on the island.

It’s 19 degrees out but feels like 7 degrees. We don’t usually get this bad a freeze so I finally got a bird bath warmer and it’s working! I’m not sure the birds are drinking from it since I put the warmer in though. I had to keep breaking up the ice yesterday and then they flocked to it to drink before the warmer arrived.

They closed schools today. We’re just not capable of handling icy roads out here. Okay, just saw a cardinal taking a sip. Yay!

I finished proofing Night of the Vampire. I’ve been trying to come up with some more story to Dreaming of the Highland Wolf. I had one, tried it, and then I didn’t feel it was working, so am heading in a different direction.

We are cold here! I know it’s not like up north, but we aren’t winterized or have winter clothes like they do up north, and on top of that, our Texas grid is so bad, they keep telling everyone to not use electric appliances or we’ll all be without electricity like when so many people died over it one year. And why is this?

Sparrow of Hawaii

They look just like the mainland sparrows. I wish I could of seen some of their unusual doves though.

Another busy day. I keep having to remove the sky pencil? hollies. I pulled one yesterday. I’ve had them for 8 years, but I just lose one after another. My motto is if they can’t survive the heat (and or cold), they don’t belong in my garden. I strive for low maintenance gardening–and some of my flowerbeds are truly easy to maintain once the plants took over and discourage the weeds. That’s in the backyard where I have more shade. Out front, that’s another story. I think the soil is really poor, though I add good soil and bark mulch every year to the flowerbeds.

I’m off to weed some. It’s not quite so hot this morning and I pulled up a tomato plant that has only yielded one tomato. The midget tomato plants are full of blossoms and still producing.

Just have one of the grand kids today, so hope to do some more weeding for a while and she can work on her spelling words and math page before we leave for the movie!

Laysan Albatross?

Took the photo of him at the zoo in Hawaii. He’s not banded so he could have just been visiting.

Have both kids today. The pool is so hot that it feels almost like a sauna at the neighborhood pool. With 112 heat index every day and no rain or anything else to cool it off, it’s no wonder.

We saw a $2 movie and then we went to the pool, did schoolwork before that.

So today, no errand running. We’re going to the pool first thing for a couple of hours, lunch, and then a nap. We’ll probably get our school work done before that, and take a walk before the day heats up too horribly much. The average morning at oh-dark thirty is 80 degrees.

They have a painted rock snake thing this summer, so the kids are all painting rocks, maybe adults, and put them in the line at the neighborhood center. My granddaughter already put hers in the line and straightened everybody’s rocks out because people were just putting them everywhere–not in a straight line. lol We have my grandson’s done and he will put his there today.

Okay, I’m off to get some things done before the kids land in on me. My granddaughter will be going to 1st grade in 3 weeks. Once she’s back at school, I’ll get more of my writing done. Right now, it’s slow to no going except on weekends.

Mockingbird Feeding Junior

I played with textures to add to the photo. I love capturing shots of Mom and Dad birds feeding their offspring.

Still working with little one on her words. Enjoying the cooler mornings, hoping everyone in Florida makes it through the hurricane all right. I’m still working on Roxie’s story. It’s up to 82K. Still need to finish the story. lol

Having lunch with my granddaughter at school today. We were negotiating. Her: chicken nuggets and french fries from the clown place. How about I make us a pizza. She says, “No. I’ll eat all my chicken nuggets.” I knew she would. But I wanted to make our lunch for us. “How about chicken sticks that I make and you can pick your own chips, and I’ll bring applesauce.”

“Okay!”

lol, now I have to figure out what I can make for me to eat. And I have to figure out how to finish the story.

Black Crowned Night Heron During the Day

Isn’t he the cutest? They say they come out mostly at night or at dusk. This one was out during the day.

I need to only write 4,000 more to get minimum word count on Highland Wolf. Still a long ways to go to finish the story, but it’s getting closer to being done and it’s all downhill from here.

Little Brown Bird

I took the original photo at the zoo in Omaha in the desert exhibit. Such a sweet little face.

We’re swimming today. Really going to be hot again. So this is the best thing to do. But on Sunday, thunderstorms are rolling in and cooling off things. Yay!!! Supposedly, we’re having thunderstorms and cooler weather through Thursday, but I’ll believe it when I see it. And then the temperatures shoot back up. This is unusual for it to be this hot for so long so early in May.

I managed to get 3,000 words yesterday on the story. Which was great. Only 3,000 words behind now. Hopefully, I can keep it up as long as I can figure out more story as I go.

Solitary Stork

So we’re going to have a crazy next few days. My daughter has flown off to a conference and my SIL and are juggling kids. The baby is just 1 and so he doesn’t sleep through most nights, and I have my granddaughter all day tomorrow, so I proposed she stay the night tonight and tomorrow night with me, then he takes her to school on Tuesday, and then he picks them up and I have to take her for her COVID shot. What????

And then I’ll keep her overnight. He’s on his own for the last night until my daughter returns the next night. Unless he can’t manage–lack of sleep, etc. lol I probably won’t get enough sleep!

I’m only at 15k on Lachlan’s story. I went back in and revised my calendar to reflect having my granddaughter here and not getting as much work done. Plus this cold is still making me cough all night, soooo….

Sometimes the best laid plans…are tossed asunder. Especially when I can’t think of where to go on the story.

Chickadee Photo Art

The chickadees rarely sit still for me, so I got lucky, though it would have been better if the chain hadn’t been in the way.

So I forgot to blog today. Little one is here today and we were trying to learn how to read some words. She hates doing it, so I was trying to make it fun. If she could read the word on the card, she took a step forward. When she read enough and was to me, we hugged. Now what can be better than that?

She’s down for a nap, but she should be up any minute now. It’s a rainy day. We hurried to the mailbox to get the mail before we got too wet and did the same to feed the birds. 100% chance rain all day and night.

Merry Christmas Eve!

I’m a little over halfway through on proofing While the Wolf’s Away, May release. I’m going to work on that all day. I approved both narrators for His Wild Highland Lass and Dawn of the Jaguar’s 15 minute samples, so they are off and running.

I’m going to have a doggy daycare here, so that should be fun. The corgis love me. Max adores Luna and makes Rilo and Tanner jealous when she comes. She’s the only female in the lot. lol

I’ll try to take pictures, but I’ll be busy trying to concentrate on the books too. I managed 488 words is all on The Emerald Isle of Mists yesterday, but I was working on proofing the other book instead, and we went to a movie yesterday, first time for my granddaughter. She wanted to see another one after that, not that we planned to but she loved it so much, though she was so tired, she fell asleep on the car ride home.

All right, got to take my dogs out again and then concentrating on proofing before the other dogs arrive and it’s utter chaos.

Have a super Christmas Eve!! Or Christmas Day if it’s there already!
