Standing Guard

This is a sentinel bird. Which means that he sings away on that branch constantly whenever I’m watering or painting the wrought iron. He is their knight, calling out to all the other birds, letting them know that I’m danger. Although I’m not, unless they’re having a bad feather day and don’t want their picture taken.

I came up with the title for the anthology: His Wild Highland Lass

And I started working on it. 1,000 done, 19,000 or so to go. 🙂

Okay, back to edits on Her Highland Hero. 🙂

Have a super great Tuesday!

Mage of Monrovia

The Magic of Inherian: The Mage of Monrovia, Book 2

An apprentice of the mage they had destroyed earlier, now threatens Inherian once again. But when Mexia arrives at Langdon to become school trained, she learns the school will not permit a woman to attend. But she must destroy the mage’s apprentice, and she cannot do so without the training. She must use the magic she has learned to discover a way to defeat the apprentice before it is too late.

Mexia has already done much more than most school- trained mages when she and her companions had gone in search of the scepter of salvation. But now one of the apprentices of the evil wizard they had destroyed, has stolen his spell book and plans to take up where he had left off, and she has to try and stop him.

Mexia believes the only way for her to defeat the mage is to become school trained like he was with the eventual goal of becoming a high wizard–the first of her kind in Inherian. But the current headmaster denies her entrance because she’s a woman. Though if she can get the former headmaster’s recommendation, she may attend.

And that’s the beginning of the trouble.

First, there’s the wizard.
Then, the immovable headmaster.
And then, the circle of misfortunes.
It all goes downhill from there…

We have storms coming in, so just want to share these shots before I lose my Internet! We had storms yesterday and that did happen. Oh, oh, oh, I finished, well, almost finished Her Highland Hero. It’s done, or nearly done…still trying to figure out that perfect last *sigh* moment and then it’s done. Then I have to edit it and send it to beta readers. So excited!  Next project is the novella for the Kissing the Highlander anthology with four other authors coming out in February.

peekaboo (640x466)
He bounded into the courtyard and I grabbed my camera to take pictures. Forget that I was nearing the end of writing Her Highland Hero. A bunny was waiting for me to take a glamor shot!
When I went outside, he crouched down in the jasmine, just watching me.
bunny next to crepe myrtle (640x576)
Then he got a little bolder, and I got a little bolder.
bunny (640x427)
He decided it was time to leave, but he paused at the gate and I took another couple of pictures, then went inside to watch him. He stayed there for a while, then took off. I hadn’t seen them in a while, so it was fun seeing him.

Oh, and a bit of wild in the wildlife…

I saw a lizard sitting on top of this post. I often see birds sitting up there and I was thinking he was sitting in a dangerous spot. Wouldn’t a bird be tempted to grab him? Well, I had just grabbed my camera and quickly took a shot right before a bird swooped down from the roof and headed straight for that pillar. The lizard scrambled down the backside of the pillar and the bird dove down anyway. Did the lizard make it? I hope so. 🙂

lizard on post

Then the other day, I had the bugman spraying for bugs. He said that the yellow jackets were really bad. I usually have a terrible problem with them. But I told him I hadn’t been. He looked at me like I was crazy. Said he found a big nest of them on the back building.  But I really haven’t had a huge problem with them like I usually do.

He knocked down a small nest that they had been building in the corner by one of the windows where I have my computer. But as soon as he left, they began building there again. And I keep seeing birds, sparrows, I think landing in the gutter, where one grabbed a bug, and they have been landing on the waterspout pipe at the bend in it and I really watched what was going on. I am writing on Her Highland Hero, so I was really trying to concentrate. But I got curious. The bird dove for the yellow jacket’s nest. I can’t actually see the nest from this window, but the bird flew toward it, wings flapping, then he ended back up on the drain spout pipe. And within seconds, he went after the nest again. That time, he got the yellow jacket. Later, I checked, and the yellow jackets haven’t returned.

What’s interesting about this is that I didn’t believe that feeding the birds seeds would help me with my insect problem. But what happened is that they have flocked to my yard as a bird haven, and eat the seeds, AND eat the bugs. Every morning, I have a feast of huge beetles on the driveway that are attracted by the security light at night. Everything from the sparrows to the cardinals will feast on the big beetles.

So if you need a natural insect repellant, the birds are great!

And soon, if I don’t keep getting distracted by the world around me, Her Highland Hero will be done! 🙂

Storms are grumbling, and I’m thrilled. We so needed the rain. And if I didn’t have so many other books to write right now, I’d surely love to work on one of the vampire books in progress. 🙂  Perfect vampire weather.

Have a super great day!

Back to Her Highland Hero. Need to finish it up so I can work on the Highland novella for an anthology I’m working with 4 other authors on! 🙂 If I don’t keep working on it, I’m bound to get edits in on the other books again and lose my place. LOL And have to start all over again. 🙂

Have a lovely Thursday!

Painting between Storms!

Please vote and have a chance to win too, if you haven’t already.

As of last night when I pre-posted this, The Dark Fae was in the lead, which is incredible! Considering where she began. She might not be there by the end of the contest, and I was ready for it to end when I was ahead, but isn’t that always the way???

So if you haven’t had a chance and want to, she’d still love the votes! Because between now and May 31 when it ends, anything could happen. You know how it is, you’re way behind in a game, and all of a sudden you think you’re going to win and somebody else out of the blue does??? If you’re the person out of the blue, that’s a good thing.

I thought I had taken a picture of the wrought iron I had painted too, but apparently not. So here is the before, and the clouds that prevented me from doing much else, then went out again later. I’ll have to take another picture of the wrought iron I did paint for the after picture. But I’m afraid the ALL after will take a long time. I have to do it between violent winds and rainstorms. 🙂 Then it will get too hot and… aren’t I good at making excuses? But I am using about 3 cans a day, so I am getting somewhere with it. I realized I have miniscule black freckles today. So much for the wind going in the right direction.

I love the wrought iron. It makes me feel as though I’m truly within my castle walls. 🙂

It should be illegal to have electric wires above ground. You know, because of the fact that the best shots are always right where the darn electric wires are.

And that’s my stormy day.

Off to write. For the first time, I was able to get my 3,000 word count yesterday, AND a little ahead. Not much, but writing a little ahead, makes me…a little ahead. 🙂

Have a terrific Thursday!!!

Have a great day!

And thanks again to everyone who voted. It’s amazing to me that I moved up to the top. It doesn’t usually happen. I usually make a little headway and fall right back down. So thank you, thank you to all who voted!

More Rain, but I Love It!

Please vote and have a chance to win too. You are really helping The Dark Fae to move up in the votes. She was waaaay last, and now she’s in third place but only a vote behind 2nd place! Thanks, thanks, thanks! If you have ever loved a fae, thought of a fae, been a fae, hated a fae, wanted a fae, wanted to be a fae, give her a vote, please??? The underdog is the middle dog now! Woohoo, thanks to everyone who has voted for her. http://www.parajunkee.com/2014/05/26/vote-for-your-favorite-ya-audiobook-giveaway-sultry-listeners-awards/

So in between rain showers, I ran a bunch of errands. I have a painter coming this weekend to repaint my ceilings and I had to buy spray paint to paint the wrought iron. It’s coming along nicely. But I have to share a funny.

When I’m at the checkout counter, the clerk asked, “You’re over 18, aren’t you?”

Waaaay over 18. So at first, it took me aback. I mean, really?

Then I realized what it was about. Spray paint. Kids buying it to get high on it.

I didn’t say yes. I just said with a great big smile, “Thank you for asking. I haven’t had anyone ask that in years.”

LOL

She laughed and said she asked a man that and he assured her he was 85. And told her a couple of times. LOL

So, as I was spray painting, it was windy as usual. And though the wind was blowing away from me, I kept getting whiffs of the stuff.

Soooo, will that improve my writing or not? Some of our greatest, most famous artists and writers were drug addicts and alcoholics. With my luck, I’d just be brain dead.

Back to writing and if you wanted to and hadn’t had a chance to, The Dark Fae still could use a LOT of votes.

She’s desperate, and when she’s desperate, she causes mischief for me.

Computer outages, electrical outages…oh, sure, I could blame it on the storm, but I know better.

It all has to do with the fae.

Have a super great hump day.

Over halfway done on Her Highland Hero and I’m working toward reaching 40,000 today!
