Sometimes You Have to be a Contortionist…

to clean the right spot.

jaguar lifting leg to lick text 600x400closeup of a moth (800x768)-RecoveredI joined a FB group that has a weekly photograph theme, and so this weeks is sepia. I’ve never done a sepia photo before, so here it is. This is of a Skipper Butterfly.

Okay, off to catch up on my writing. It’s foggy, got bitten up trying to plant plants yesterday and dig grass out of a flowerbed I’m working on. They have had several cases of Nile Virus in the area, so I need to be more careful.

Have a great day!!

Back To the Real World of Fantasy!

In the midst of all the chaos, more bears and a bunny sold, more packing, more calls to make, etc, etc, etc, I got edits for A Very Jaguar Christmas. So I’m now working on first time edits, and back to the real world. My world of fantasy. I really like my world of fantasy. It’s stressful too–trying to come up with ideas, the next scenes, the whole book, rewrites, edits, more edits, and more edits. But there’s something comforting about slipping into the characters’ world and out of my own for a while where it’s even more stressful.

jaguar sleeping (640x427)The title was changed to A Very Jaguar Christmas. I also saw the new Billionaire Wolf cover, but didn’t care for the model’s pose. I’m hoping they can do something differently. I think he’s the same model they’ve used for 3 recent covers too. In any event, hopefully it will change and I can show it off soon. 🙂

I’ve been up since 3, worrying about stuff, so figured it was a waste of time and got up to do edits instead. As much as I know worrying about stuff I have no control over is a waste of time, I also know that tackling what I can and just persevering is the best way to deal with that which I can. So, I’m back to edits!

Have a super great Tuesday. I can’t believe Monday is already gone, though I can assure you it will come around again soon enough. Too soon.

Have a great one!

Jaguar Shifting into a Woman or a Woman Shifting into a Jaguar?

Okay, so that’s my “fun” for today. This is my tribute to Jaguar Christmas that I can’t write on right now. 🙁

Back to work on edits for Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing. We get several of these, so it does feel like deja vu sometimes. And in a short while, it’ll be edits for She-Wolf Leader of the Pack.

Have a great one!

We had no hope for rain ever, in a million years. I know. Because I looked at the weather report. And it said so. No rain forever and ever and ever. And it rained!!!

So I’m happy.

Have a great Monday!

Book 16

Book 16

Excerpt: ‘SEAL Wolf Hunting’ by Terry Spear

Terry Spear joins us to share an excerpt from her new SEAL Wolf Hunting, book 16 in her Heart of the Wolf series.

About the book (courtesy of Sourcebooks Casablanca):

Hottest of the hot on the Navy SEAL wolf team.

Paul Cunningham has eluded many traps in his long career as a Navy SEAL, but there’s no way out of this one. On a rare visit home, he gets “volunteered” for a local charity bachelor auction, and the community is counting on him. Then he discovers that the sexy she-wolf with the winning ticket is Lori Greypaw—the one woman he could never resist. And she has plans for Paul that go way beyond a simple date. For the first time in his bachelor life, this alpha wolf SEAL is going to have to prove his worth…

Okay, I’m behind on word count. First, I’ve been writing 5,000 a day, until party day, and I left that day free. I wrote a 1,000 that day, then yesterday was supposed to be my 5,000 day, but I only wrote 1,000. 🙁 I spent the day getting contest wins to ship and responding to a million different comments. It’s great exposure, and I have to say I am sending 4 of my Heart of the Wolf, first book in the series, to 4 brand new Heart of the Wolf Series books and one of my winners got excited about my Highland medieval series, so that was so much fun.

What’s funny is in the beginning, I had no series name. Then everyone kept asking me what it was. I didn’t realize I was going to  have such a long-running series. Soooo, my fans kept calling it the Heart of the Wolf Series, and that stuck. So with Jaguar, I just said make it Heart of the Jaguar Series, and then did the same with my Cougar series. 🙂

I have to ship all the books and autograph books at the two stores that carry them today. So I won’t be able to get as much word count today either. And, I just got in first line edits on She-Wolf Leader of the Pack, so those have to take priority. *sigh*

And I’m behind on exercising. 🙁 I’ve been walking 5 miles a day, mostly stationary so I can still be working at home. But I’ve only been walking 1-2 miles with trying to write. *double sigh*

So there went all my goals. But you see, it’s not forever. And revising goals is just fine too. By writing so much in a few days, I have gotten further than I thought I would. I’m at 57,000 and need 23,000. So really getting close. And yesterday I was also brainstorming some ideas for the end of the book, jotted down a bunch of ideas, so see? I was working on the book. Just not with word count. And that’s important too.

I want to pitch White Wolf Christmas for 2017. I need to get caught up with the Legend of the White Wolf pack. They haven’t had their story told since that one came out as book 4. I need to write another jaguar book to keep the series going, but not sure who needs their story told next. Maybe someone totally different. I’m thinking of a trip to Hawaii.

For my characters. Been their twice, beautiful. Seems like the perfect landscape for a couple of jaguar shifters.

Gigantic Jaguar Yawn–My what big teeth you have

My internet is really slow this morning, so driving me crazy.

Anyway, I still have to write the Jaguar Christmas story by November, so not like I don’t still have books to write. 🙂

Okay, off to get my day started. If you have picked up SEAL Wolf Hunting and have read it and loved it, I would love a review on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. I never think to mention it, but that would be great!

Have a super wonderful day! Off to do something I’m supposed to be doing now!

And you see, that tells a story. You see it, don’t you? The jaguar creeping up to the grass, the reeds, then closer until he sees nothing but dinner waiting for him on the logs. Jaguars love turtles, even though these are more snack size.

Maybe he’ll wait and let them grow a bit bigger, and just chill  out for a bit.

Taking photos is a blast! Making up stories about them, or telling fun real stories is also just as much a part of the adventure. 🙂

Well, I had to review my synopsis for marketing for SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble, and it’s already the most recently updated. Woohoo!

Back to reviewing Silver Wolf Christmas! There will be a final proof and it’s done! It will be out in October! 🙂

Have a super great day!!! 🙂 <3

I’m a Pantser!

I remember an author saying she didn’t like that term and she thought it should be something else, something more eloquent, but for me, that’s appropriate. I write by the seat of my pants. I was reading an article by an author about how she writes–she says she’s a pantser. She figures out the opening scene, ending scene, and several plot points in between.

That is NOT how I’d describe a pantser. To me that’s a plotter. 🙂 <3 Maybe not a plotter that outlines the whole book, but that still describes a plotter.

Alpha Wolf with Cheez-Its. Definitely a shifter.

Alpha Wolf with Cheez-Its. Definitely a shifter.

Picture I took of the alpha wolf at the wildlife park near Omaha, Nebraska.

A pantser figures out the opening, or even some other scene in the book first (sometimes my opening scenes end up being later in the book) and then from there, keeps going, maybe scenes coming to mind that are out of order–in other words, they really are later in the story, and then need to be written and finally tied in with the earlier ones. Maybe the end scene comes to me before some of the rest of the story and I’ll write that. But as I’m writing, I’ll come up with interesting twists and turns. It happens as I’m writing a scene. That scene prompts it. Not any other. Not the beginning. It evolves from whatever I’ve learned about the characters up until now. Like going full circle. I was describing the entryway to the castle in Heart of the Highland Wolf and near the end of the book while I was trying to figure out the end, suddenly, I had it! And it all had to do with the beginning and describing the castle entryway. It’s just as unexpected for me as it is for my readers. Which means, I couldn’t have plotted it if my life depended on it. And yet, it seems seamless.

Sometimes I think weirdly. I do it in games sometimes. Game designers try to come up with a lot of different scenarios, anticipate what gamers are going to do, and plan for it.  Ha! They didn’t plan for me. Sometimes I get stuck in a game because of that. I locked myself in a dungeon cell once and had to go to an earlier saved game and restore, because the gamers hadn’t anticipated I’d do something so dumb. 🙂

This does not mean I don’t think about my stories. I think about them ALL the time. But sometimes my mind wanders to another story, and I want to start it. Sometimes I ignore that urge because I need to write the story with the more current deadline. But sometimes I’ll write the scene because later, I won’t remember it and if I don’t, those characters will continue to take up space in my head. Which is why I wrote the opening, very brief, of Jaguar Jingle Bells.

Jaguar caught in zoo--shifter?

Jaguar caught in zoo–shifter?

So off to do some more pantsing! They say that you can get more easily sidetracked with your work if you are a pantser, because you don’t plot it out. And that means more rewrites. But that’s okay. Because for me, the fun is in the discovery. If I could, which I can’t, but if I could plot out my book from beginning to end, it would kill the joy of writing the story, and discovering all the twisting paths the hero and heroine take to reach their HEA.

Taming the Wild Cougar WEB 05082015

Oh, and this was what I was thinking about, and so AFTER I got my word count for yesterday on Billionaire, I wrote a tiny bit of an opening. One-hundred and forty-three words. Told you it was a tiny bit. But got to start somewhere! This is Dr. Kate Parker and Leyland Hill.  Already he’s in trouble, and she doesn’t suspect a thing–just that she’s going on her vacation after she finishes some paperwork at the clinic when she gets sidetracked–in the worst possible way.

If You Were a Billionaire…

My hero needs a sporty, expensive, new convertible. Yes, the classics are just wonderful, but he’s a wolf, lived a long life, and he had all the “classics” when they were new. So he likes new. Not boxy. But hot and sexy and sporty.

So I posted this on FB, and I LOVE my readers. I had so many wonderful picks I can’t decide which he likes the best.

So here are my favorites and some that aren’t:

And the list of hot convertibles for one wolf billionaire goes on. So if you were one, what would your choice be?

I am back to writing one last guest blog for SEAL Wolf Hunting, and starting to work on Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing.

Hope you have a lovely day! I’m off to ride in that sports car with the wolfish hero!
