Fuzzy Wazzy Was a Cow!!

Here’s a better picture of the Highland Cow’s bangs. 🙂  Like a sheepdog, how can they see anything???

Highland Cow fuzzy

Isn’t she cute??? It was October when we were in Scotland and really cold on the North Sea, but otherwise we were pretty warm. Well, I had a wool coat on all the time. 🙂  But I was expecting REALLY cold. I swear NY was much colder before I left for Scotland. Except for seeing Dunnottar Castle on the North Sea. We had to get pretty bundled up for that.

These were the gardens at Crathes Castle, shot from the castle itself. I couldn’t believe how vibrant the greens were, along with the brilliant autumn colors AND the so many flowers were in bloom.  It really was spectacular!

crathes gardens sharp and colorful (640x480)

Now, if only I could get my yard to look like this! Note the bench in the upper right hand corner? That’s where one of my MacNeill wolves would be right now with the she-wolf of his dreams. 🙂

Have a super fun Wednesday!! Do you have brilliant colors in your garden like these?

And this just in! 5 Star Rating Seal

Woohoo!!!! Bjornolf and Anna received 5 Stars!!! Long and Short Reviews http://www.longandshortreviews.com/book-reviews/a-seal-wolf-christmas-by-terry-spear/
Adventures with hunky alpha werewolves continue with this latest fast paced, exciting and completely entertaining romp by the talented Terry Spear. She’s one of my favorite authors and she continues the tradition of well written tales with A Seal Wolf Christmas. The novel has the quality of dialogue, descriptions and storytelling that I’ve come to expect. I had so much fun!

This time, I finally get to officially meet Bjornolf! I remember him from A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing and I was incredibly intrigued by him. Do you want to talk about a secondary character that was so shrouded in mystery, had cojones and macho attitude to make Chuck Norris proud and snagged me hook, line and sinker into wanting to know more about him? Bjornolf is that man and this novel does him justice. I still chuckle at his method of restraining Anna in that previous book. He tied her up with her own pantyhose! I never forgot his character and neither had Anna. In fact, I consider myself very fortunate that Ms. Spear also remembered him because this book is the result.

My favorite aspect of Anna is that she isn’t a pushover. She’s military just like the hero and can shoot, punch, evade and plan just like the rest of the guys on the rescue team. Much to my amusement, there are times when a man’s upper body strength becomes a hindrance and Anna experiences a double whammy. Then, there are the times when it’s downright delicious and it’s because that strength belongs to Bjornolf.

I tip my hat to Ms. Spear for doing something that made me appreciate her all the more. The author showed her sensitivity to readers by helping out with explaining how to pronounce Bjornolf’s name. It was done in a delightful and sweet manner even when the situation was far from sweet or safe. Foreign names look exotic and can add an air of mystery or intrigue to a book but I always find it frustrating because my mind plays games with the pronunciation when what I should be doing is concentrating on the plot. By doing what she did insured that I had a better, smoother reading experience.

Speaking of plot, what a roller coaster! The conflict reaches into the past and warps the present. As the mystery is unraveled, readers learn just how evil the culprits are. In an odd twist, Ms. Spear shows that even the most warped individual can have their good side and their moments of tender humanity. Unfortunately, the ugly truth shreds those memories into tatters because it’s that profound and demented. I felt bad for one of the secondary characters but on the bright side, that innocent person ended up with an awesome and terrific, although still maturing, support system.

As for the holiday end of things, I liked how the author tied in the festive season with Anna and Bjornolf’s personal internal conflicts. For many, Christmas signifies new birth and beginnings, giving from the heart and self, forgiveness and hope, love and for some, healing. All of these special holiday qualities are played out between the hero and heroine as they learn about each other, face their fears and realize that the future is not only brighter but totally doable because they’ll be doing it together. The word ‘together’ takes on a whole new meaning towards the end and I thought it made the happy ever after that much more powerful and complete.

I liked the attention to detail for the Christmas decorations. Anna was actually ready to embrace the holiday; all it took for her to make that life-changing step was the hero. Bjornolf provided the means, the motivation, and a young teenager about to become a man as the catalysts to the holiday being more than just songs on a radio or shopping for deals with crazy people. I enjoyed watching her rediscover what it’s all about.

When it comes to showing the love, Ms. Spear has Anna and Bjornolf experiencing it in their human forms and in their wolf forms. I love her descriptions of them running, and sensing the world around them; and an occasional ‘woof’ always makes me smile. I like the sense of building anticipation and the joy of they’re finally coming together. Those scenes are always well written, filled with the best forms of romance.

A Seal Wolf Christmas is a complete, adventure-filled romance overflowing with the best of what keeps me addicted to books by Ms. Spear. It has characters that I love getting to know, action to keep me riveted, fun and silly moments to make me smile and fast paced and often witty dialogue to keep those pages turning. This is another strong addition to a sexy and fun series that keeps the craving alive and well for all of Ms. Spear’s wonderful werewolf series’ heroes and heroines.

Highland Cow Standing Near the River

Highland cow, black vibrant (800x705)

With this Highland cow, I was able to capture a picture of the river also and the trees reflected on its glassy surface. If I’d chanced upon a Highlander hunk in a kilt, I’m afraid there wouldna have been a breeze to give us ladies a thrill.

*sigh* So just as well all we had to take pictures of were the Highland cows. Isn’t he beautiful?

They reminded me of English sheepdogs with bangs hanging over their eyes. 🙂

Santa and seal5 (533x800)I mentioned how much fun it is to get the cover art that makes the book so real. What’s better than that??? Getting review copies!!!! Then it’s REALLY real!

Highland Cow in a Pasture in Scotland

Highland cow detail

I loved visiting seven castles in Scotland, but one of my favorite sights was a Highland cow grazing in a Highland pasture. Oh, sure, you think, a cow??? Hey, I love longhorn steer also! They’re just unusual enough to be nice and interesting.

One of the things I found so remarkable about the Highland cows, besides the long shaggy fur coats, are that their faces are shorter than American cows.

With wolves–Arctic wolves are different from their gray timber wolf cousins–not just in coat color. They’re all gray wolves, but Arctic wolves have shorter legs and ears–because of the cold. So is it the same with the Highland cow? Their faces are shorter because of the cold?

In any event, they’re just darned cute.

Don’t you think?

And look at what my friend brought me from Scotland!!! Thanks, Vonda Sinclair, for thinking of me~!  I love him. She writes Highland historical romances also.

Isn’t he cute?

Feeling a Little Blue?

blue dragonfly2 all blue (800x763)

I went out to check on one of my new trees that’s wilting, wilting, wilting in this horrible Texas heat with no rain is sight. And saw this blue dragonfly. I unsettled him, but hoped he’d return. So I rushed into the house, changed out lenses, and ran back outside to take pictures of him.  I kept approaching, snapping pictures, afraid I would make him fly off.  And I did. 🙁 But, I was able to get pretty close.

He’s looking a little blue.

Have a lovely Sunday!!! And remember to look around you. You never know what you might see.

Or, she is missing some of her wolf books! Do you see which ones?

And she’s waiting on the latest release!

Or, what else could she be howling about?

Ack, Synopsis Time!!!– A SEAL Wolf on the Auction Block

I’m in the middle of writing  A Highland Wolf Christmas when the request came for synopses for the next two books. They’re for 2015, and so I have to have a 50-word synopsis–sounds easy, right? Nope. Have to add the sexiness, the world, the humor, the conflict, all in 50 words–did I mention it has to make sense and hook???

Then it’s a 2,000 word synopsis. Wait, I haven’t written the book yet! Yep, got to have it. So that meant doing tons and tons and tons of brainstorming–thanks, Loretta and Bonnie!

And thanks to all my Facebook friends who offered locations for the setting for the newest book: Idaho–Sawtooth Mountains, beautiful lake. I looked for the right cabin, the right interior, pictures of the lake, mountains, trees, and saved all the links, and will get back to it later when I need to write the book. And it’s one place they have wolves. Perfect!

So here’s the synopsis, and a picture of the area. What do you think? Are you ready to bid on a SEAL wolf? Or two?

A SEAL Wolf on the Auction Block

Paul Cunningham and Allan Rappaport are all that are left of Hunter’s SEAL wolf team who are still happily bachelors. They’re too busy eliminating threats, performing special reconnaissance, neutralizing enemy forces, and training allies—to be saddled with the mundane stuff of mated life. When they land in on Allan’s sister for a well-deserved break, they quickly learn she’s signed them up to be on the bachelor auction block to raise money for their small town charity. They haven’t quite trained for this kind of mission.

Lori Greypaw knows her grandmother intends to “buy” Paul Cunningham’s services for the day, though Lori’s had her eye on both of the men for a long time. Her grandmother needs the roof redone on their cabin in the woods, and she says Paul’s the one who knows how to do it. Lori plans to do some interior work on the place, and she sure hopes her grandmother is right or this could be one expensive disaster.

But butting heads with Paul on how things need to be done, and running into a couple of wanted men who decide to use her cabin as a hideaway, wasn’t at all how she planned this. Paul might not be the best roofer in the world, but in a pinch when it’s a matter of life and death, or just needing a body to make her hot, he’s got all the right moves.

Publisher’s Weekly said this about A SEAL Wolf Christmas!

A SEAL Wolf Christmas
Terry Spear. Sourcebooks Casablanca, $7.99 mass market (288p) ISBN 978-1-4022-8408-3

In this lively paranormal, Spear takes readers on a pulse-pounding ride from the Amazon to a Christmas tree farm in Oregon. Bjornolf Jorgenson and his team of SEAL werewolves (last seen in A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing) are on a rescue mission to Colombia… In between red-hot love scenes, Bjornolf and Anna race to find the truth before one of them—or someone they love—is killed. Christmas elements are scant, but there’s plenty of action. (Oct.) Publisher’s Weekly

Finally, those hot SEALs are back with Terry Spear’s A SEAL Wolf Christmas. First, they’re running around in the jaguars’ territory in the hot Amazon jungle, but once they’ve done their SEAL kind of mission, Bjornolf and Anna have another mystery to solve–A Christmas tree farm murder mystery. They don’t have to deal with babies–not yet–but wolf teens, yes! And that can mean really big trouble as Silver Bells are ringing and the aroma of wassail and cinnamon is scenting the air during this special Christmas season.

Texas Storms and Sunset Magic

Hot Sept Storm Clouds Central Texas original (small)

It’s hot, hot, hot, and all sun, so I was surprised to see the storm clouds when I went out to get the mail!

And the beautiful sunset! I, of course, had to run back in and get my camera.  Top picture is the original before doing anything to it. 🙂

Then I had to play with the pictures. 🙂

And here’s what I came up with!

Hot Sept Storm Clouds Central Texas original vivacious

From hot to cool, don’t you think??? Here’s another I didn’t change because the dumb wires were in the way, but I loved how dramatic the picture looked with the sun’s rays against the clouds.

Hot Sept Storm Clouds Central Texas 005 (800x698)

Okay, and that’s enough sunsets and cloud gazing, wishing those storms were going to dump rain on us and cool things down!!

Have a super great day! Back to writing!

It’s Tuesday–Only 3 More Tuesdays to Go!

Before it’s Christmas!!! Early! With Bjornolf and Anna and Hunter and the gang! Even Leidolf makes an appearance and some of his wolf pack! Everything’s turning up mistletoe, and a few dead bodies. But hey, a SEAL and an undercover operative wouldn’t feel at home if they weren’t solving a mystery!

christmas wolf tree1 (800x665)

Only 3 more Tuesdays to go, and he can be all yours!!

Okay, so my question is–do you like to shop for Christmas?

I usually avoid the crowds and pick up things when I’m in different places that hopefully will mean something to the ones I gift them to. But last year, I went with a coworker friend to Salado and shopped while everything was decorated in Christmas fashion and I had a really good time. So often, I shop online. Much easier to ship!

What about you?

I have to tell you that Anna does not like to shop. At Christmas or any other time. And you know what that means, don’t you?

More Photoshop Madness!

owl blue light

I didn’t do a whole lot with this. The owl was in a blue light, but in the original picture, you can’t see his eye, so I brightened the colors a bit, and there it is! I didn’t want to lighten the picture because the room was naturally dark for the owls. 🙂

Owl, enhanced copy (740x800)

Playing around with others, but only have 10,000 left to write on The Highlander, so need to concentrate on writing! Have a great Tuesday!
