More Snow Pictures in Spring!

These are Havanese tracks in the snow. 🙂 See? I can track a Havanese, just like that. *Snaps Fingers*

Snow on the fountain–captured after most of the snow melted. Would have liked to get one earlier before it had, but was taking care of baby. Snow comes here anywhere from once every 15-30 years, sooooo, that’s why it’s such a big event. I know for those in snow country, they’re amused. But some around here have never seen snow before!

I’ve been in a blizzard skiing, not good, but it came up and I had to come down. Do you know how hard it is to ski when you can’t make out the horizon? Everything looks…white. There’s no mountain, no slope, just…white.  I was by myself too. Not my fault. But I took more spills trying to come down off the mountain when I couldn’t see the slope for the snow.

And we lived in Wisconsin when I was a kid and my dad carried me to the bus stop because the snow was so high. Was in a blizzard in Amarillo, Texas, well, several, trying to make my way home from work to Canyon, and couldn’t tell where the centerline was, the shoulder, or what I was really driving on. I was in another in St. Louise for Thanksgiving one year on my way to share Thanksgiving with my boss’s family when I was on Army duty, and really didn’t think I was going to make  it.

We always built a snow fort, had snow fights, and built a snowman in Oklahoma, couldn’t get out of my parking lot in Maryland after I finally made it home in the snowstorm, and in New Jersey, didn’t think I’d make it home in the snowstorm mixed with ice, when they had early release for everyone but the military.

And yet, I see snow, and it’s a thrill. Not like if I had to live in it for several months of the year though.

I’m in Everipedia!

Okay, I’m off to finish a bear for an order! Have a great day! I’m still trying to come up with a story  idea for the polar bear story!

More Snow Pictures

We would be completely at a standstill, if we’d had some of the snows others up north have. Why? No equipment to do anything about it.

Even with this amount, there were quite a few accidents–ice and snow mixed with drivers who raced along the roads like the weather conditions haven’t changed from dry and hot. Same when we have rain.

In the first picture, I would never have thought I’d be able to take a photo of the bird ornament surrounded by snow. I had grandbaby over, so I couldn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to for this historic weather event. Remember how I said we had one last year with rain? This year with the hurricane? Now this? Hmmm.

The milkweed had a blast of freezing temperatures last night and look worse for wear this morning. The rose bush was beautiful covered in snow and it still is doing well. I even had marigolds and zinnia that were flowering beautifully in the snow. I had put a sign out “Let it Snow” as a joke, but the fae (that I write about in my teen books who cause mischief in every way), must have had something to do with this.Grandbaby was watching the neighbors taking pictures of other neighbors at the time.

Our temperatures are supposed to be going up. Not today, I don’t think. But if everything can hold out, they’ll be around for a little while longer. Two years ago when I moved here, the snapdragons flowered through the winter even!

Okay, off to finish My Highlander, then send it to beta readers. Hope you all are having a beautiful weekend!

Snow in Houston?

Too early for April Fool’s.

I’ll show more pictures later. Baby is here and the electricity keeps going out. This is the 3rd time I’ve tried to write this post. Is this another historical weather event????

Okay, off to play with baby!

Hope your weather isn’t too bad. I think everyone’s got their heat on or something, to be causing the rolling blackouts.

I added snowflake overlay here from Pretty Photoshop Actions. But you can “see” that it’s snowing in the photo above because Tanner’s black coat has snowflakes on it. But you just couldn’t see the snow coming down.

Sabine, Arctic Wolf (640x427)So I’m writing about snow and Arctic wolves, and this is a perfect way to get the feel for it.

And that’s it! I’m still on track with White Wolf Christmas, and the jaguars do get involved. I have 2 more bears I need to make, and these will be in the mail shortly. And I still need to do edits on Wolf and a Hard Place….

So are you ready for fall???

Have a great one!

How Can I Write Christmas when it’s 97 Degrees out???

christmas wolf tree1 (800x665)

Manipulating photos. This was a photo of a jaguar I took in the Omaha Zoo. He was playing Santa last night and now he’s taking a snooze in front of the Christmas tree after setting the packages out.

It’s hard, but this is often how it works. It’s freezing out, I’m writing about the jungle heat. It’s steaming out and I’m writing about a blizzard. So how do I get in the mood?  Believe me, I really don’t feel in the mood to watch Christmas stories right now, or listen to Christmas music.

But, I began making Christmas trailers for the two books coming out this year. First, A Silver Wolf Christmas for the Oct 6 release, and then for Alphas Unwrapped, Dec 1 release. Finding music and Christmas pictures for them, diving into the Christmas stories helped. Then having the Christmas party for A Silver Wolf Christmas did too. I watched Arctic Blast a while back when it was soooo hot, I think it is called, campy movie, but it’s cold. There are others like it where people are running around in the frigid cold and they work well for giving the visuals to help create a cold snowy environment in my mind.

But wait! These are jaguar shifters. It gets cold in Texas, but not that snowy. And if we have snow, it’s in the new year, February, later.  It’s ruining my whole Christmas mood. NOT to mention that it’s 97 degrees this weekend, even though we are going into the second week in October. Did anyone mention to the weather god that it is fall now? Please turn off the heat. And while you’re at it, we desperately need some rain. Max fell into a foot-deep crack in the earth yesterday when I took him walking in the front yard.

Jaguars lived in the southern states bordering Mexico–Texas, Arizona, NM, California. No longer, but at one time, they did. So my jaguar shifters live in Texas. And they go on vacations to South America and other locations where jaguars still run free, though who knows how long that will last as people still illegally hunt them for sport.

So, here is my dilemma. I want a Christmas card Christmas for them. Without it, it just doesn’t seem like Christmas. Even though for most of my life, I’ve had to go north to see snow if I want the Christmas card experience with snow. 🙂 <3 Florida, Texas, California, no snow at Christmas. When we lived in Florida, we had an aluminum tree and colorful wheel of lights. It was really pretty, but Florida just didn’t seem Christmassy enough to warrant a green tree.

That had me revising my trip plans–for my jaguars. They have to go north to see a white Christmas. Have to. Now I’m in the mood for Christmas. I wrote 7,000 words yesterday! Still 13,000 words behind, but I was 20,000 words behind, so hey, it’s working!

I only wrote a brief snow scene, and have been working from the beginning on edits, which doesn’t add as much because I’m taking out, adding, taking out, and switching sentences around, changing words. And every night, I print out 60 pages to revise so in the morning I do revisions, and tackle the next 60 pages. I have a Nov 1 deadline and Billionaire edits are coming, so no time to goof off.

And that’s how I write a believable story that feels real even when the temperatures outside scream, “Liar, liar, liar!”

I am in the mood for snow and Christmas and it’s very real to me….until I take the puppies outside and enter the Hot Zone.

Have a super great TGIF!!! 🙂 <3 I predict by December, it will be cooler than the 90’s. Maybe January. 🙂

More White Stuff

Everything is coated in ice and snow this morning. I have a protected entryway, but even so, I had snow up next to the door. We have a winter storm warning in effect until noon. Why didn’t I know that? I need to start checking out the weather report more often!!!20 mph winds and 13 degrees chill factor. And dummy me went out without a coat on, hurrying the puppies to do their thing. Max doesn’t like it when he can’t find the grass to go on. 🙂 Which is good, I suppose, as he doesn’t think he’s supposed to go on anything but grass.

I was supposed to take the puppies in for flu shots today (only because they’re being boarded later and they gave them shots when they were there the last time, but at 10 am. I’ll cancel and reschedule for when we have Texas weather again. 🙂

She-Wolf–Next….

Okay, so I sell on a plot synopsis. A short synopsis.  A couple of paragraph synopsis. And since I’m nearly finished with A SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble–one of my beta readers suggested moving a couple of things around, to which I said I had NO TIME. Because I’m due at my daughter’s house soon and then won’t have time to write. I’m afraid I might be keeping dogs from fighting the whole time I’m there, *sigh*, but hope they’ll get along. BUT, I made the time because I want the best book out there, and so she and I were going back and forth on how to fix the issues last night, and I’ve been rewriting this morning. 🙂

And now that it is really nearly done, I’m opening up a file on the next book. I’ve made a start. I opened up a file for the next book. Yes. That’s it. The first step. Without it, no file, no book. And I opened one on the next one because here I thought I had already for  this one and hadn’t. So I’m a step ahead. One thing was finding my blurb to remember what I said I was going to write about. That was like two books ago. And I have 3 more I’m writing.

Then, I typed in the title, which will probably change. And my name. Which most likely won’t. And….yes, Chapter 1. That’s it. The book is started. and I have 80,000 words to go. Well, 79,995 technically. Hey, every word counts. I need to add my bio and that will add a few more words.

But on SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble, it ended up at 90,000 words and I haven’t even added my bio, acknowledgements or dedication. So I know I can do it.

I just have to take baby steps. I have to get to work on the dreaded taxes, and I still need to put Phantom Fae in print form, and I need to send off SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble after any other changes are made on Monday. And then it’s nose to the grindstone on working on She-Wolf.

First, since it’s a romance, I have to think of how they’ll meet–hero and heroine. Since it’s a werewolf story, I have to have the wolfishness show early too…one running as a wolf, or some such thing. And I’ll have to show the conflict early on.

That’s my Mission Impossible, and I’m stepping up to the challenge, as soon as I can. This book is due Jun 1, so no time to lose. 🙂

Hope you are having a glorious day! It’s FREEZING here, literally, with more snow showers on the way.

I look outside at them today, and they look just as pretty as they did before they got frostbite.

Have a happy TGIF!

Christmas in February–Snow in the Heart of Texas!

When I lived in Amarillo, we had snow. A lot. But in Central Texas, years can pass and no snow. The day before we had ice, which has been unusual also of late. So I had taken the puppies out first thing in the morning, hoping that the sidewalk wouldn’t be icy and it wasn’t! But it was raining and we had thunder and lightning, so I was hurrying them along to get back inside.

About two hours later, while working on proofing a book, I took them out again. It was still thundering, but to my amazement, it was snowing!!!

Since the puppies are puppies, they’ve never seen ice or snow before. So this has been a new experience for them. And for me? It’s like Christmas. Which means? I’m out there taking pictures, knowing that it’s not going to last and I have to have proof that we really did have snow in February in 2015!

Oh, I know, some of you that are eyeball deep in snowdrifts are going to be shaking your heads. But really, if you had flowers in February, when you’re normally eyeball deep in snowdrifts, wouldn’t you make a big deal of it? Sure.

So here’s our snow day…and an ice picture or two.

Havanese Paw Prints in Snow

Havanese Paw Prints in Snow

puppies and snow (640x427)

And there you have it! Christmas in February in Central Texas!

I’m off to work on all the stuff I have neglected while I’ve been trying to finish the book. Need to get to work on 2 teddy bears pronto. Others are stacking up quick. 🙂 <3 And then, have to get started on the She-Wolf book before I get behind on it. It will be the first book I have written where a she-wolf is running a pack. And yes, it’s based off a true wolf pack story. 🙂

Puppies are sleeping on my lap–Max just growled—in his sleep. Wonder what he is dreaming about? He’s started to go into hunting mode–the prey, Tanner. It’s the funniest thing. I really got them for research in canine behavior for my wolf stories. He’s done it twice now that I’ve seen. He’ll crouch down low, head down, tail down, and move cautiously toward Tanner. The first time I saw him do it was in front of the AC guy. We just watched, fascinated. Tanner was standing up to him, tail up, anticipating. Then Max and Tanner started to play, really gentle like. They can get pretty wild, so I was glad with an audience, they were good. So then this next time, Tanner laid down on his belly, head up, anticipating. I wish I could get it on video. But often when I grab my camera, they’ll stop what they’re doing, look at me, and come over for attention. 🙂

And we’ve just finalized Call of the Cougar’s audiobook, so it should be coming out in a couple of weeks.

Have a super great day!
