Stormy Sunset

We had stormy skies on and off all day, but it didn’t storm. We’re supposed to have more tomorrow, but it’s been going that way, huge thunderheads, no storms, 80-90% of rain, no rain. So we shall see. 🙂

Have a lovely day!

Skies before the Storms Hit

Sunrise–beautiful storm clouds. And then the rain came down and the birds and the squirrels braved the weather to eat. Here’s a baby squirrel on the feeder as the rain is pouring.

With the upcoming release of SEAL Wolf Undercover, I wanted to share a new video trailer for the “first” in the SEAL Wolf Series. Actually, To Tempt the Wolf has the first mention of the SEAL wolves, but I need to make a new video for it too. 🙂

Storms and Sunrise

Different times of the day during the storms yesterday. A hurricane sign went up on the highway. What???

We’re 70 miles inland from the Gulf, but one woman said when the last hurricane hit, they were without running water and electricity for 2 weeks.

It’s hurricane season.

Have a nice hurricane-free day.

Storms and More Storms

The morning after, the night before, and then more.

I love storms, as long as they don’t cause any damage. It settles the dust, feeds the thirsty plants, and cools things down! For a little while, we were even cooler than it was in Minnesota!

I love storms.

Falcon Fae is over halfway done! Yay! I’m not sure when it will be all the way done, but as soon as it is, I’ll be working on Billionaire Wolf Christmas, and then the next Highland book.

For my birthday, my daughter and SIL bought me Divinity Original Sin, so after word count, I played it for a while. Then did some more word count, then played the game again, and more word count. It’s very linear, so once I went down into the crypt, I was stuck. I love games where if you need to build up your strength some more, you can leave, find or pay for more armor, fight, and once you’re stronger, return to deal with the big boys. It wouldn’t let me do that. Ack. So now I’m stuck trying to kill something that can’t be killed.

It’s like creating stories, or doing photography work, or just doing anything, really. If one thing doesn’t work, you have to try something else.

With photography, I had my ISO set on auto. It was great because when I was trying to take pictures and figure out all the settings, I was getting white or black pictures. But with auto ISO, I was getting a lot of great pictures, but some were turning out really grainy. So time to put on my armor, and fight the big boys. And it’s working! Auto ISO forces the picture to brighten, when it’s not that bright out, and you lose the beauty of the low light pictures, such as the photo with the lights reflecting off the wet streets and the glow of the lights against the darkness. And it makes for really high ISO and then that makes for more graininess.

I’m brand new at working with adjusting everything at one time–instead of just aperture and shutter speed–I realize when I have a larger F-stop number, versus a lower number (aperture), I have to adjust shutter speed. Or I end up with black or white pictures. Which means constantly looking to see what I just took to see if I goofed, or got it right. Or in the ballpark. For now, I’m leaving my ISO at 100, to try and reduce the graininess of pictures.

But if I want to take pictures of fast moving birds, like hummingbirds, then the ISO has to go up! I love this article by Thomas Stirr. Now if I could take handheld photographs of hummingbirds that looked this outstanding? I would be thrilled.

Maybe one of these days I’ll defeat the unbeatable, and move onto the next challenge!

Have a great and successful day!

On a Stormy Day…

Max and Tanner had to help me write. The thunder was right overhead, so they joined me on my lap, but I still had to write. 🙂 <3  I managed 3,000 words even at that!

Shipping St. Patrick’s Day bear and some books to fans today, and just generally running around trying to get things done. It’s time to spring clean.

I went through my closet, and though I’m getting rid of some stuff, I need to get rid of TONS more stuff that I NEVER wear. 🙂

Same with anything else in the house that I don’t use. I need to pare down.

What about you?st-patricks-day-bear-different-background-900

Anvil Cloud…No Rain, But Beautiful, Beautiful Clouds Anyway!

storm clouds 032 pink anvil photography (800x533)

This is an untouched photo. Isn’t it beautiful? The clouds were turning pink with the sunset. Then anvil clouds were white above, and the sky a pretty pastel blue. In the center of the cloud, lightning was flashing, but I didn’t catch it. 🙂

And I captured a picture of a green dragonfly! I couldn’t believe it. He was so far away and as I moved closer, he flew away, so I figured he was going to be just a blur. I was thrilled to see he wasn’t! 🙂

green dragonflyOkay, I was bad in that I didn’t get my word count yesterday. I was busy redoing some covers.  And sometimes I get stuck. Or I would have finished for certain!

Hope you all have a lovely day!!! It was 90 last night with a heat index of 106. That’s just not right! 🙂

Bear Cave Much Better Place to Be

black bear (640x364) (2)It’s really important that I stay in my bear cave to finish the edits on this book. 70 pages to go. 130 done. BUT, it’s essential that I get some papers notarized, scanned, emailed, and fedexed. We’re under 2 flood river warnings and 1 flood river watch. The two are already a couple of feet over flood levels. I tried to run in last night to a post office to do the notary, but the roads were soooo badly flooded, I had to turn around, not sure I could even make it back. In retrospect, I wished I could have taken a picture, but I was too busy trying not to get hit or flood my engine.

I kept saying if they’d send the paperwork earlier, even a couple of hours earlier, we would have been fine. Nope. Had to send them in the middle of the downpour and by then, it was already too late.

So I’ve been trying to figure out another way I can get this notarized…a place nearer by will do it, IF they can even make it into work. It’s a non-essential type place so they might not. And IF I can even make it over there. We have continued rains for several hours. I can’t do anything until businesses open up at 8:30-9. So until then, I’m back to the bear cave while the thunder and lightning continues, and the rains keep coming down.

ducks and koi (800x733)The ducks are probably laughing when they see all these cars stopped, trying to figure out if they can make it on the flooded roads. Lights flashing, they sit there, not sure what to do. Try to make it? Stall out their cars? Wait the storm out? The storm and the flood waters are not going away any time soon. Maybe tomorrow? But we have heavy rains through the weekend. Tow trucks have been out in numbers, towing cars stuck in the floodwaters.

I had to turn around while I watched a couple of other higher road vehicles plow through the water, the wet stuff as high as their headlights. I have a Ford Escape, the new models lower than the older ones, so the water was up to my headlights before I even reached the point where the water was even higher.  I didn’t want to risk it. Vehicles riding lower than mine were in a real quandary.  Two Suburbans sailed past me, idiots, not because they could, but because they were driving 10 mph over the speed limit as if to say ha! They could do it. There have been tons of accidents on the highways this morning, mostly due to the wet roads and flooding.

So I have to figure out this dilemma and figure out how to get it done without drowning myself in the process.

Hmmm, it sounds like the stuff for stories.

waterfall (427x640)Have a super great day! Back to editing!!! 🙂

Back to the Cave…

polar bear (2) (800x614)No, not the bat cave. The bear cave for when I’m working diligently on edits. I took this picture in Omaha, Nebraska.

Puppies got me up at 4:45 this morning and of course go right back to sleep. Me? I’m blogging, then getting ready to edit again. 145 pages to go!

Storms didn’t come last night as they predicted. Yes! They’re coming this afternoon through Sunday. Which means more flooding. We’re still under flood warnings before we have any more rain. Unless it changes, which it is known to do, the rains will stop by Monday, which is better than earlier predictions. They were supposed to last through Wednesday. So it looks like a whole week of drying out next week. Which we really need.

I need to run out and get more groceries before this starts up again. And run other errands. Have a great day! I’ve got to get busy!

Hurricane Season?

For 6 years, we didn’t have any trouble with hurricanes where we lived in Central Florida, though the house had been hit a couple of years before we moved there and had taken out a wall.

So the traffic was snarled on Saturday due to flooding and evacuations south of us, but we went out to dinner to celebrate birthdays at a Mexican restaurant really close to where we live, and my daughter starts talking about how it’s hurricane season from now until November.

storm clouds 006 (640x427)And they’re supposed to be bad because we had such a mild winter.

storm clouds 007 (640x427)Because of all the flooding, and more rain on its way for most of this week and into next week, and the rivers and creeks are already full to bursting, when I see these beautiful clouds, I’m thinking oh-no. More rain. Normally, I love rain. It cools things down. Gives relief to the hot sun. We’ve already had 96 degrees heat index, so it’s been hot. And the storms really did cool things down.

In Central Texas, we’ll have terrible droughts in the summer. So I’m hoping it’s not like that here. But too much rain can be a bad thing too.

storm clouds 008 (640x427)I mentioned it on Facebook, but one of the local residents said we live far enough north, hurricanes aren’t a real problem. No need to evacuate. The problem is tropical storms and the flooding and power outages. Buy a generator. Someone said get an extra couple of cans of gas in case you do have to leave. Which reminds me to always have the tank full if a storm is coming to the area. Just in case.

My daughter was talking about getting canned goods that don’t require cooking. So next time I’m at the grocery store, I’ll have to stock up on emergency food. Something I’ve never thought of doing. But after our electric was out for so many hours, businesses all closed because of it, it’s a good idea. One year, ice caused outages all over in Texas. My parents got dry ice to keep their groceries cold. They ran into town to eat because some places had electricity. But it was so cold at home that they were having trouble keeping warm. I’m surprised my dad didn’t have a generator. I need to get one of those camping stoves, just in case. 🙂

How are you set up for electric outages in your area?
