I Was in Dragonfly Heaven

It’s not just about taking a sharp picture of the fairy creatures as much as I can, but also, capturing interesting backdrops when I can. I loved the pastel bokeh one at the bottom, and the light flare that looks like a rainbow with the red-veined skimmer. The orange one is a flame skinner, and the one with the white tail is the common whitetail. The others, I’m not sure.

I went out to water the parched plants when dragonflies of all kinds took to the wing, and then I skipped the watering, sorry plants, and ran into grab my camera. I LOVE dragonflies.

Okay, corgis are going home tonight and in the meantime, I have to write! I did get 1,000 over word count yesterday! Have a dragonfly fantasy kind of day!

Glass baubles creating bokeh when I was trying to capture the bird.

I’ve been trying to ignore all the wildlife outside while I work on the story. But I saw the dragonfly land on the roses, and I haven’t seen one land in forever. So I went outside to capture it, and then saw 3 different kinds of butterflies, and managed to get good pictures of two kinds. The bird, I captured through the window, not the best, but I wasn’t sure what it was, so I wanted to take a picture to ask fans what they thought it was. I saw the glass baubles catching the light and creating a bokeh affect. Really pretty.

Back to the book! 🙂

Have a wonderful day! 🙂

I’ve seen more, but not that have settled for me to take a picture. I saw another baby dasher, but so tiny and it was flying, it was barely visible.

I thought this was the same dragonfly as I captured in the shot earlier. But the other has a blue tail.:)

Whenever I see a dragonfly settle somewhere, I run in and hope by the time I retrieve my camera, he or she will still be waiting for me to have his or her picture taken. So the top female skinner was on a plant or rock, not sure, when I was watering my coneflowers and disturbed her. She settled on the rock nearby and I happily ran inside to get my camera (after I finished watering my plants), returned, and found she was still waiting patiently for me.

They are beautiful, eat the bad bugs, and are very much the part of a fairy garden. I keep seeing butterflies, but they won’t stop for pictures. *sigh*

Okay, I’ve written 10,000 words in the last couple of days, have 10,000 to go, and I need to proof A Very Jaguar Christmas, and write 3 promotional blogs. They’re due the 20th, the proof, the 29th, and the book, July 1st. So lots of deadlines, which means I shouldn’t be taking pictures of dragonflies, right? Nah….

Have a great dragonfly day!

Dragonfly Eating Dinner

dragonflies 007

I think the white fluffy looking stuff is a swarm of tiny bugs and the Dragonfly is out for dinner.

I saw a beautiful green one yesterday, only I didn’t have my camera with me. He flew around me and over the puppies. We had disturbed him, and did again later when they had to go out. I put the puppies in the house and went out to capture a shot of him, but haven’t seen him again. 🙁 I haven’t seen a pure green dragonfly, so I want to capture him in a photo in the worst way.

Don’t you hate that? When your model won’t cooperate?

My latest audiobook is now available!

Killing the Bloodlust | [Terry Spear]

Army officer Crystal Anderson can’t help the draw she has to vampires, although she’s supposed to be drawn to them to kill those who are renegades, since she’s a born huntress. But something about her is different. Ostracized from her family, she lives precariously on her own. That is until a local vampire targets her. Then she meets a fellow Army officer Robert Parker – who she believes is one of them – a vampire or blood host, or something. Suddenly, nothing is the same.

Army officer Robert Parker is on assignment at Fort Hood, Texas, trying to track down the vampire who murdered his sister after hours. When he spies Crystal coming out of a vampire house, he assumes she’s a human host, and that she can lead him to his murderer. Except he’s drawn to her like a hunter would be to a huntress, until he learns she’s not quite right. She’s fighting alone without a family of hunters’ support, and he’s bound to do something about it before she gets herself killed… or worse.

I’m still working on Billionaire, revising it based on a beta reader’s great ideas. I have to read it over to see if I missed anything with the new changes. Puppies got me up at 2:30 this morning, luckily we didn’t run into the skunk.

Sooo, that means I’m late getting my blog done, etc, etc, etc. Tanner and Max got into sunflower seeds that I put out for the birds and by the time I got them to mind me and come in the house, they’d eaten too much. They didn’t get sick, but man, the poop factor has been unbelievable. I had to take them both out in the middle of the night, at 7:30, they were at it again. Then fifteen minutes later, Max is standing at the door. Which I LOVE. No more accidents in the house. My puppies are growing up! But both went again. I was gobsmacked. Then…yes, again, 15 mins later. Darn birds. It’s all your fault. Eat up your sunflower seeds! Anyway, you can actually feed your dogs sunflower seeds, but keep it to a little bit as they will actually gain weight with them. After as much as I had to clean up the yard this morning, I don’t see how!!! 🙂

I’ve also got 13 books up at iBooks and still 31 to move over there. I learned that you earn 69+% on your books there, 60% going through Smashwords, and I was having trouble sending in updated versions, getting an error message. I needed to give the version another number. It’s a catch 22. I needed to add iBook store links to the books, but couldn’t without them being uploaded to the store first so I’d have a store link to add to the book. A helpful author told me she had the same problem and so she had to do 1.1 to upload the new version. So need to do that with ALL the books again with the updated store links.

Okay, so if you write, you know that if you change one little thing, it can go from a cute little snowflake into the Abominable Snowman. And that’s what I’ve got to check out this morning, while making some other revisions.

But moving the books to another book seller site also means that cute little snowflake has snowballed into the Abominable Snowman. I’ve got to update all my links for iBooks as I get them done. AND, since I’m adding links for Amazon and BN, I need to also update all the books on Amazon and BN. Haven’t even begun to do that. Sooooo….

That means I’ve got to quit goofing off on here, and get to work on Billionaire. Book due soon and the days are slipping on past even sooner!!

Have a terrific snowflake day! With 105 degree temps, no snowmen in the immediate future for us!

I love dragonflies, can you tell? They eat the bad bugs, come when I’m watering like little puppy dogs, and are so curious about the puppies and me, they always fly over and check us out.

Have a super great day!

New is NOT Always Better!

Have you ever thought that? You get used to doing something a certain way, perfectly content with the way that you were doing it and without your permission, someone changes it??? (Oh and by the way, you had to learn this way in the first place and that took some time to figure out?)

Sometimes, the powers to be are good about it–they ASK you if you want to update. Sometimes they don’t. And they just DO it. Sometimes you think, sure, it’s new and improved right? And you soon learn it’s a nightmare to handle.

That happened on my email program. Change to this cool background. Okay, click of a button. But after that, there was no going back. My emails nested. I couldn’t write in response to emails sent to me right on the email, which really helps when I’m commenting point by point without copying and pasting their whole message to my email. Finally, there was a way to UNnest the emails so I didn’t have this problem. But there were complaints all over the boards about it. The problem is if you’re in groups where you talk about stuff, you’re supposed to trim messages. With this new and IMPROVED email version, we couldn’t do it.

Anyway, WordPress changed something for the better, and I don’t know if I agreed to it and forgot, or they just changed it, but I didn’t like it and they gave me the option to go back to the old way of doing things.

Sometimes the old way is the best way. Sometimes I can’t wrap my brain around a new way, since I’m always learning new ways to do a million different things, and I just don’t need one more new way to do something that is working well for me.

Do you ever feel that way?

hot labor day (640x427) 2

Here are some pictures of my hot Labor Day. Isn’t this beautiful?

I’m surrounded by cornfields that look like these on three sides. The one in front of me has been cut, but guess what my neighbors were doing for Labor Day. Shooting off fireworks.

Shaking head.

dragonfly, sunflower (640x427)

Why did the dragonfly have to be sitting on top of a cornstalk that was right in front of a telephone pole? I couldn’t move to take the picture because he flew off as soon as I did. But I still thought it was a cool picture, him pausing on the tip of a cornstalk. Next time maybe my model will stay put so I can move around and get a better background. Or, I can show it as just a slice of life–telephone pole and all.

scissortail and sparrows (640x427)stretch

Do you see the scissor-tail flycatcher on the lower right? The sparrows are on the upper left. I’m not usually able to capture one in a picture.

cardinal in piracantha (640x450)

Here is a cardinal in the piracantha. I was watering the new shrubs and that always makes the birds jittery, particularly since my neighbor was also shooting off firecrackers.

But what I had seen that was so cool were four sparrows clinging to the cornstalks. I wanted a picture of them. But when I ran back to get my camera and returned, they were gone. It was the first time I had seen them actually doing that. The rest of the time, I’d just see them fly off.

So instead, while I was watering, with camera in hand, I got pictures of the dragonfly, the beauty of the sky and the cornfields, the scissor-tail and the cardinal.

dove piracantha (640x526)

Oh, and a dove in the piracantha. It’s a wickedly thorny shrub, but the birds love it. Nice and protective

Well, I’m back to word count, caught up on student lessons, and I’m still keeping up on word count, behind on bears. 🙂 <3 But I did cut out two more last night. 🙂  I have 6 bears ready, just need to embroider their paws. 🙂  But that takes time too.  And somehow, I’m always running out of it.

Do you ever find that too?

Okay, back to writing!

Conflict! Conflict! Conflict!

Dragonfly Blue

I’ve been so busy with writing books, deadlines, making bears, taking pictures, 🙂 that I haven’t been teaching too many full-class online workshops, except on an individual basis. A publisher signed up seventeen of her authors to take my conflict course, so I’m happily critiquing student exercises.

Not all writers can teach. Not all teachers can teach. But ever since I was a kid, I wanted to teach. When I was in 6th grade, I was in Teachers of Tomorrow, and taught a class on artwork to 2nd graders and to 3rd graders later. It was a fun experience, and I always thought I’d be a teacher.

My dad discouraged it because there was no money in teaching, he said. So after getting a masters in business and accounting, working as a personnel officer, and doing so many different things, I started teaching writers how to hone their writing.

And I love it. But I’d kind of gotten away from it because I’ve been so busy with writing.

One of the things that I love about teaching, is it reminds me how to edit my own work as I’m critiquing. Wow, am I doing all the things I tell others to do???

🙂  <3

So I’m off to critique some more lessons, loving it, and still trying to get my word count in for A Silver Wolf Christmas! I reached 40,000 words last night, which means I’m halfway done, and worked on 3 bears!!!

Suzie, Too, Poodle Skirt Bear dressed for the 50s

Off to catch up on student lessons than word count.

Have a great Monday!!

Feeling a Little Blue?

blue dragonfly2 all blue (800x763)

I went out to check on one of my new trees that’s wilting, wilting, wilting in this horrible Texas heat with no rain is sight. And saw this blue dragonfly. I unsettled him, but hoped he’d return. So I rushed into the house, changed out lenses, and ran back outside to take pictures of him.  I kept approaching, snapping pictures, afraid I would make him fly off.  And I did. 🙁 But, I was able to get pretty close.

He’s looking a little blue.

Have a lovely Sunday!!! And remember to look around you. You never know what you might see.
