Between a Wolf and A Hard Place–$1.99!!!

So I was trying to figure out how big a stack of $1,000,000 would be in $100 bills. Hey, it’s doable. You can put it in a briefcase, no problem! You can stick $10,000 worth of $100 bills in your pocket, easy. That bundle is 1/2″ thick if it’s all new dollars. If it’s old bills, it can be up to 1″ thick. You can do it!

Research is fun, but time-consuming. I end up reading all kinds of things that I don’t need for the story. Sometimes, I discover something else that might really add to the story. Sometimes, I learn I can’t do what I envisioned because it wouldn’t be feasibly possible. Now, if I wrote strictly fantasy, then I could stretch the bounds of reality, yet I still would need some constraints to make the fantasy world seem real. Even though my world isn’t exactly straight up real, I mean, if werewolves didn’t really exist, I need to keep the world as real as possible.

I learn all kinds of amazing things when I do research for a book. Who would have ever thought you could keep $10,000 in your pocket without any problem???

Time for Wolves

I was disappointed last night to learn that I had thought I was 8,000 words ahead of the game, but I’ve dropped down to 5,000. I had been at 7,000 for sure. I guess I lost track when I was sick. Sooo, I need to get that 7,000 lead again. 🙂 <3 I like to get ahead of my goal in case things happen that put me behind and then I’m still ahead….confused yet?

Have you noticed that a lot of movies lately, more so than usual, are constant flashbacks? Constant. We’re in the present, then living a scene in the past, fast forward, fast backward, fast forward. In writing, it makes it confusing, so if something is really, really important to the story, I try to show it in the beginning of the story. It’s okay to mention it, but actually taking the characters, and you, back constantly, can be jarring.

Most of the time I can follow a movie story line when they do that. My dad absolutely couldn’t watch movies like that. He’d be totally lost. But I was watching something that really confused me the other day. I thought it was in the past, but it was in the present again. That’s the problem with time traveling in the middle of a story–constantly. 🙂

But now??? It’s the present and time for the wolves!

Creating Garden Paths…

When I went to West Texas A & M, they said they didn’t create walking paths because they were waiting for the students to create them. Then they paved them. My neighbor said he was constantly walking through his planting beds so he finally created a path through them.

I have some natural stones in mine that I use for stepping stones so I can weed without standing in the dirt. Why????? Because of fire ants. Creating paths gives direction. But it doesn’t keep everyone on the path! People are just too unpredictable.

Okay, baby will be here any moment. The dogs are whining at the door in happy anticipation. And I reached 19,000 on word count, which was the goal. I couldn’t think of where to go next, or I would have tried to reach 20,000 yesterday for an even number.

Hope your day goes great and for those who are getting snowbound, hope it melts off quickly and doesn’t snow again until next winter!

Altering Life

Playing around with the picture I took of an Asiatic lily–using Topaz Studio (free). I see that wasn’t the original picture I used–this one has water drops on it. 🙂 <3

I ended up writing over 4,000 words yesterday, catching up on the other day and making word count for yesterday and a start on today. 🙂 17,000+ done, and 63,000 to go. It’s amazing how just writing and writing and writing really works. I have to admit when I was really sick, I could only edit what I’d written. I just hadn’t slept enough to come up with new scenes.

Lola shared a picture of her beautiful Tuxedo cat, Ms. Cassie, cuddling with a hot cougar. Thanks, Lola, she is adorable! And my picture of Trixie, my black and white rescue cat when she was just a kitten, and my son. She is definitely watching what he is up to. She was so good-natured with both the kids.

The writing isn’t going to get done without me, and I had an idea last night before I dropped off to sleep, and I remembered it this morning without writing it down! So off to add it to the scene. Which means making some earlier changes.

Taking the Wrong Path…

Between having the flu Fri and yesterday and violent thunderstorms that knocked out my electricity, I didn’t blog. Is this like the dog ate my school paper???

We were lucky we didn’t have any tornadoes in the are like some places did. Feeling better today, but still no appetite. Which is a good thing, isn’t it? Still nauseous though, and that’s no fun.

But this was what I meant to show when I took my walk to see the purple irises but went the wrong way–a green heron (thought it was a snakebird), but when I looked up the pictures of closer shots on the internet for snakebirds–it wasn’t right. The coloration is the same as a green heron. He “reels” in his neck and so it looks like he doesn’t have a long neck.

These are the best pictures I’ve ever gotten of one. He was right down below me on the bank of the pond, but I hadn’t seen him and I startled him. I was trying to get a picture of a great white heron across the pond. So the green heron flew up onto the rock wall. Then when he realized I wasn’t coming after him and he was still hungry, he flew down to the big boulders and made his way back to the water. I took a few more pictures, one of him as a reflection in the water, and then left him in peace. 🙂 <3

Despite being sick and not turning on my PC all day yesterday because of the continuing storms, I did manage to add 1300 words to the story. Seven hundred words short, but I’ll try to make that up today.

Purple Irises Galore

This is what I saw on my drive home the other day, purple, purple irises. And that’s what motivated me to get out early and take lots of pictures of them from different vantage points. Just beautiful. Tomorrow I’ll show what else I saw.

The baby is nearly here, so need to get ready for her. My circuit breaker on the washer keeps getting thrown, so I need to call an electrician. Should be under warranty. I didn’t think of it, or I would have called about this some months ago.

Taking a LONG Walk

Late posting because I had a mission: Take pictures of purple irises before it was too sunny out. And I walked the wrong way. But that’s okay. I managed to get some shots of a great white heron and a snake bird and walked 3.6 miles. I still also had shots of the irises. I just missed taking a picture of a hawk on a dead tree. By the time I whipped my camera around to take the shot and before I could focus, he flew off.

Two-hundred and ten pictures later, I’m home, trying to cool off and getting ready to immerse myself in SEAL Wolf Surrender.

No more interruptions. But what a wonderful start to a day. I’m just downloading the pictures now, so will have to share tomorrow.

Upside Down Morning

Good morning, everyone! Are you awake? Apparently, I’m not. I put my watch on upside down, threw my recyclables in the wrong garbage bin, which meant fishing them out and putting them in the correct one, and….hopefully there won’t be a third dumb thing I do today. 🙂 <3

Baby is on her way over, hope she’s getting over the flu and doesn’t give it to me!!! My daughter informed me that the baby is having diaper blowouts from the antibiotics she’s on.

Ugh, and I don’t have a change of clothes for her. So wrapping her in towels for her first nap. lol See how my day is going?

Here is the anatomy of a story. Max, the white havanese, is pretending to ignore Tanner. Tanner’s bowing in a taunt to say: Play with me. This is the inciting incident.

Does Max continue to ignore him, or go in for the play fight?

Next, Max continues to pretend to ignore Tanner. Tanner lays down, pretending he’s not ready to play.

Then Max rushes in to attack.

Tanner rushes back and Max turns to start the chase. 🙂

Hungry, Cold Birds

Well, it was cold, cold, cold out, but I was trying to finish the grass and weed pulling before it gets hot, hot, hot. So I did all the backyard flowerbeds, shrieked in terror when, without having gardening gloves on like I should have, nearly pulled up a snake with the weeds. I got my shovel out, scooped the cold critter up, and put him on the island of plants in the middle of our street. Hopefully, he stays there. That’s the second snake I’ve found in my plants this year while pulling weeds. They’re good, not evil, but I still don’t want them in the plants, giving me a heart attack.

I kept thinking, people are going to think I’m planning to dig up the irises in the island flowerbed. I mean, who would carry a shovel across the street otherwise, right? A neighbor was leaving in her car, and rolled down her window, and said, “Snake, right?”

I laughed. “Yes! But I don’t want him in my yard.”

She motioned to the island flowerbed and said, “That’s a great place for him.”

Yep, if he stays there! I put on my gloves after that. lol

So I reached 7,000 words yesterday SEAL Wolf Surrender, and I’m off to write. You know, I only tell you this to keep me accountable, whether you want to hear it or not. Just so you know. lol If I tell someone, then I feel guilty if I don’t get to my word count each day (minus the two days I have baby–between running after her and being worn out by the time she leaves, I need me time)…but even then, I try to get some word count to get ahead. In fact, I’d blocked out the week for jury duty, so I wasn’t scheduled to write anything. That means I’m 7,000 words ahead. I was supposed to write my first 2,000 today. 🙂 But I tell myself, they don’t count–in other words–I don’t get a reprieve. I just have them in case something happens and I CAN’T write.

So with that said, I need to get my word count and make a bear!!! Have a lovely day!
