Werewolves for Grownups and Men with Muscles…

Thanks so much to Rhonda Valverde for mentioning my werewolf books–Heart of the Highland Wolf–when she was interviewed by Woman’s World!!! This was a couple of years ago, but I ran across it on another blog and wanted to show it off again, because I don’t think I have on this one anyway, and it relates to my Highland wolf series as this was the first one in the series, I have a new one out, Hero of a Highland Wolf, and the next one coming up in October is A Highland Wolf Christmas.

My dad was the world’s biggest tease, which is where I get my inclination from naturally, and when my mom, who could be just as much of a character, asked him why he didn’t have six-pack abs like some guy on TV, he had a funny retort.

My dad did have muscles–which he showed off in his Adonis pose, muscles flexed, but he was leaner and more wiry. And he had the strongest hands in the world. He could unscrew any cap on any jar that was practically unscrewable by human hands–without the use of a wrench or can opener.

So to my mother’s taunts about the six-pack abs?

“They’ll all turn to flab.”

And then he’d push out his belly to indicate what he meant. We’d all grimace and say, “Ewww,” then he’d take a deep breath and suck it all in. And he was dad again. We told him to hold it that way. 🙂

Now, a man with a sense of humor is definitely more desirable to me than a man who has none but is blessed or works at only having a beautiful bod, because when you’re down in the dumps, who can be more uplifting? I don’t mean, physically!

Oh, I know some of you will want both. Why can’t you have both? So in my books, I give readers both, but…in the real world…

Well, of course Highlanders are going to have gorgeous muscles from swinging the sword to fight their enemies and carrying off the lovely lass–that’s you.

And wolves are going to have beautiful muscles as they exercise on their runs and workouts with the fairer sex–that’s you.

But still…a guy with a sense of humor definitely trumps one without. 🙂

After I added some antique braid on the hat, an antiqued hand crocheted doily and some feathers. Now she’s ready to go back in time, forward, or just anywhere her heart desires. 🙂

Storms knocked me off the internet again a lot of yesterday, so just getting caught up.

And I’m sooo behind on writing. Finally wrote some in long hand. Which means I have to type it now. Glad for the storms though. We really needed them!

Whimsical Is Fun! New Rainbow Bear!

It’s fun to create just fun bears. Most want the typical light brown or blonde or dark brown bear and that’s fun too. But for me, like with writing, I like some variety in my life. So when I saw this rainbow fur fabric, I wondered how it would look.

But first I had to get my word count done. 3,000 words to reach 20,000. But then storms hit the area (that weren’t supposed to, like 0% chance of rain), the Internet went out, and came back on and right in the middle of writing, the electricity went off.

Disaster. So, I couldn’t write on the computer, didn’t want to write by hand, and made Rainbow Bear up with the new fabric. Confetti Bear fur has been discontinued, so I have just 2 left of that bear.

Anyway, I am back on the computer and trying to get my 3,000 words in, but I’m afraid it’s getting rather late for that. So instead, I’m preposting my blog and hoping to make up for it tomorrow. Sometimes storms just get in the way.

When Sun Meets Moon

I was out watering when I saw this beautiful sunrise. Now, I could say these are reeds in front of a beautiful lake, or on sand dunes in front of the ocean and off in the distance is a small island. Or I could tell the truth and say it’s a field of burned up corn (as in dried out, not blackened) and the acres beyond that right before the sun makes it’s appearance.

And here it is, just peeking out. And right directly overhead of where I was standing, was the moon. So the sun was chasing the moon. Don’t you love the difference between the brilliant orange of the sun, the burning hot clouds and sky and the cool blue sky, soft snowy clouds, and snowy moon?

The clouds were soft, windswept high, high in the sky.

And finished making the bears for a special order. Still need to embroider their paws. 🙂

More Bears, More Books

I stayed up too late making bears and editing the current work in progress, A Silver Wolf Christmas, so instead of in running mode, which includes watering the new shrubs pronto as it’s already warm out and will be 104 degrees today, I’m trying to put up blogs and take bear pictures, this is the latest. Big Blue comes with Baby Blue, and I’m working on her now. I still need to embroider the paws on this one also.

But later. Need to write 3500 words today and tomorrow and I will have 20,000 words this week. I started on Wed, so not too shabby! 🙂 <3

But I have a slow start today.

*sigh*

I’m off to water before it gets too miserably hot. I do have to say that we had over 100 degrees up to around 109-110 one year for about 3 weeks with no relief, so this year really hasn’t been bad. Even though the 90s started in June, and that was a little early for us!

It’s a Bug Eat Bug Eat Bug World Out There

This was one of those times when I took a picture and caught something I didn’t plan to see. I was watering a little and saw the blue or pale green dragonfly. The others I caught before were brown. Except for the really blue, blue butterfly. So I had to get a shot. I ran back in the house, and then began shooting him, took it in the house, and cropped it and here he is preying on the aphids, but see another beneficial bug ready to prey on him?

I hope the dragonfly flew away. They’re both good bugs. I don’t want them eating each other! When I came back to turn off the water, both were gone. So I’m going to assume they both lived happily ever after.

And are still voraciously eating the bad bugs. This is the picture of the praying mantis in Charlotte. I had said I didn’t think I’d ever seen one in my yard before. Well, I still hadn’t, if I hadn’t taken this macro shot of the dragonfly.

It truly is a very buggy world out here. Although, the population of yellow jackets is very small now. That’s because of THE BIRDS.

HER HIGHLAND HERO by Terry Spear is an incredible Scottish romance laced with intrigue, suspense and danger with a very satisfying ending that left me positively beaming. I literally could not put this book down once I started it; I stayed up well past my bedtime finishing it but it was well worth it! It was PERFECT! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! HER HIGHLAND HERO is the sixth book in Terry’s The Highlanders series; however, as with all of Terry’s books, even though there are interconnected characters, each book can be fully enjoyed as a standalone. Even though not necessary, I highly recommend reading every book in this series as they are all fantastic.

Building a Business–1 Book, 1 Bear at a Time!

I’ve written probably 70 books, some not yet published that need a lot of work, 60 published already, and with bears? I have no idea how many I’ve made and sold. 🙂 <3

But this has been going on for YEARS. And years. And years.

Bayleigh Personalized Sweater Bear

When I had been embroidering, which I finally incorporated into my personalized bears, I had been doing needlework for years also.

I have finished maybe 12 bears in the last few weeks, which has only taken me that long because I’m waiting on clan fabric, and taking trips, and the like. And realized I have 17 bears still to do and more orders coming in.

How do I do it? Promote, write, create bears, water, feed the birds, take trips, and much, much more?

I’m goal oriented. I might not be able to plot out my books, total pantser here (as in seat of the pants writer), but yesterday, I had several goals to meet: water plants, feed birds, finish up 1 bear, nearly done with a second, and finishing a third today, because my goal is to get the rest of the contest wins and the three bears out on Friday. Word goal: Reach 7,000 words on A Silver Wolf Christmas yesterday. The story will have to be revised a lot. I need more….something. But I won’t know what it is until I’m farther along in the story. Today, my goal is to reach at least 10,000. By weeks’ end, another 10,000 so I’ll have 20,000. And that’s how I get so much done.

MacRae Clan Bear

So this morning, I’m finishing up one of the bears–normally I don’t do that in the morning. Writing comes first. But, I have one done and need to take a picture now that it’s light out, and want to have the other ready for a picture. I used to send them off and then had no picture to show for the bear. The last one will probably be finished too late tonight and I will need to take a picture of it in the morning, then take them in to ship tomorrow.

I try to group things together so that I’m not doing one thing only–and that helps so I’m not trying to jump from project to project constantly. Even though I have to do that too, because new deadlines pop up and they take priority.

Anyway, so that’s how I do it. 1 Book, 1 Bear and eventually, they look like they are multiplying like Bunnies.

Buildings inside buildings, or so it looks.More reflections of buildings on buildings.

Aren’t they beautiful? Did anyone notice it got to be Wednesday already? How did that happen???

I lost 2,000 words on my mss. And how did that happen? I’ve been having trouble with saving, so I redownloaded my Word. But I thought I had saved Call of the Cougar before I left, it’s supposed to be saving every minute, and I sent the “saved” file to my email before I left, and when I got home, 2,000 words were missing.

Thankfully, I had printed out those pages (so I knew I wasn’t crazy) and had chapter 13, at least in printed form. And there were my 2,000 words.

So not sure what’s going on, but I’m saving as a new title now, to ensure I don’t have a heart attack again. 🙂 <3

Off to work on A Silver Wolf Christmas. Only 16,000 to go on Call of the Cougar, but I’m worried about meeting the deadline on A Silver Wolf Christmas…priorities, priorities!

Came up with the idea for 2 stories to pitch also, but still trying to come up with the 3rd. 🙂

Have a super great Wednesday! It was miraculously cool here this morning and I took a picture of the sunrise in Texas, the North Star and another star below it.

I was just taking out the garbage–mundane life–when I saw this dramatic sunrise, and all of sudden the mundane was no longer the mundane. 🙂

And I was surprised to feel how wonderfully cool it was when we’re going to have 100s all week.

And while I was watering the new shrubs, the birds were gathering all over the electric lines. Yesterday, I took a video of them as they were so excited to play in the water while I was watering some shrubs around the back patio. It was fun to see them playing when before that, they had vanished.

I love old buildings, but it was really fun to see all these beautiful new buildings–the glass, the designs, really different.

I loved seeing the reflection of clouds in the blue glass windows. Or other buildings that were just as interesting in design.

I had to show that the wolves were howling with delight as they enjoyed the city just as much as I did.

But for now, I’ve got to get back to work! I just finished proofing The Ancient Fae audiobook and approved it, and I’m halfway done with proofing Cougar’s Mate and will send changes to the narrator. That’s 3 1/2 more hours to review. And then, it’s time to get back to A Silver Wolf Christmas.

I’ve started it two different ways. I’m not sure I like either way. The beginning is never the beginning, by the way. Oh, sure, sometimes it can be. But often I will write the beginning and decide it’s not hooky enough. That it needs more of a dramatic beginning. And so the beginning becomes the next scene. Because it’s conflictive, and good, but it just shouldn’t be that opening scene. So I need to get past the business of trying to make the best opening and just write the book.

This will make like book 61 or so, because I have others waiting in the wings that I’ve already written, and yet–sometimes, oftentimes I do the same thing each time. 🙂 <3

If you find yourself doing this also, take heart!!! It happens!

Okay, back to listening to Cougar’s Mate. Love it! And can’t wait to share it in audiobook form!

I loved all the glass buildings, and kept thinking what an industry the window cleaning business would have there. Now, if they had men in kilts, that they actually have in Scotland, who window wash, even better!

Once, I told my daughter that I should write darker, because that’s what was selling. She said, “Mom, you can’t write totally dark. You always have rainbows in your stories.” 🙂 <3 Love her! The humor just creeps in. With my very first book, Heart of the Wolf, I loved that two reviews mentioned my humor. Humor is always so subjective, and so I never know if readers will see what I write as humorous or not. And I think as I’ve progressed with my writing, I’ve felt more freedom to write more humor that I was afraid would not fly with my publisher. One of my former critique partners was an English high school teacher and she was more of a slapstick kind of humor writer. It was 96 degrees and HOT outside, and 87 inside! It was cool in Charlotte and I miss that!

Off to ship Buchanan Clan Bear, Armstrong Clan Bear, Poodle Skirt Bear, MacBear, and US Navy Bear! It looks like Christmas in my car with all the packages!!!

And I finished another bear, but I have to make another bear to complete the order.

I only have one more of these bears. It’s a mohair.

And now I’m off to get a million things done, priority, proof an audiobook this morning and approve it. Have another after that. And I have 8 more bears to make. 🙂 <3

And a book to write!

Etc, etc, etc. It’s going to be a GREAT day!!! 🙂 <3 Mainly because my plants didn’t die while I was gone and my AC is now working!!! Have a super wonderful Monday!
