Garden Structures & Review of Cougar’s Mate

arbor1 (458x640)

Even though I love nature for nature’s sake, sometimes something like this simply made garden structure is really appealing. The little brick wall and stone patio add to it. And I loved the old fashioned lantern right in the center of the arbor.

It made me want to stop and enjoy it as much as I would stop to enjoy taking pictures of the flowers.

What about you?

Okay, I had to share a great new review also for Cougar’s Mate:

From Debbie’s Book Bag

Thoughts:

Bestselling Author Terry Spear takes readers on a new adventure with the first book in a new shifter series, Heart of the Cougar. This time cougar’s that take center stage, as Spear builds her new series around another powerful, intelligent animal. Cougar’s Mate introduces readers to the town of Yuma, Colorado, ran by cougar shifters and open to helping heroine Shannon Rafferty who is on the run from those who want her dead. Deputy Chase Buchanan doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into, but he knows he has to protect this woman, this she-cat who has stolen his heart.

What I liked:

I am a Terry Spear fan from way back. And hearing that she had a new series out about another group of shifters was tantamount to Christmas for me. Spear has a way of writing that not only pulls the reader in, but it also keeps them interested and not just through one particular novel, but through everything they can possibly find that she’s written. She has an easy word flow and style that makes her writing accessible and engaging. Her characters are always intense and well developed and her world building is beyond phenomenal and I was so excited to see where she would go with her new cougar shifters. I was certainly not disappointed. Yuma is quite a town!

Bottom Line:

This is an exceptional paranormal romance. Terry Spear never disappoints. She creates characters that readers can relate to, whether they are paranormal or not. Her world building is a real strength in her writing, as is her easy style and humor. If you are looking for an engaging love story that just happens to involve cougar shifters, this one is one to read.

Cougar’s Mate is available NOW from your favorite bookseller.

I’m giving this one 5 out of 5 apples from my book bag!

Okay, now with a review like that, why wouldn’t I love to write? Thanks so much to Deb and others like her who have shared how much they love my works!

A Bird’s Home

IMG_5831 (640x427)

Before and after pictures of a bird’s home. First, it’s the nest without the bird and I thought it was a dove’s nest as I kept seeing a dove fly out of that tree. But then a couple of days later, I saw a red beak and knew I had mistaken the bird that lived there.

cardinal in her nest (640x547)

The cardinal and she just watched me as I drew close enough to take a picture, but tried not to scare her off. I think she’s sitting on her eggs, protecting them from the Easter bunny.

Hope you have a lovely Monday and had a grand Easter weekend!

Everything’s Coming Up Roses

A few days ago, I posted about the yellow roses that have appeared.
yellow roses pink background (427x640)

But a couple of days ago, my Knock-out roses began to bloom.

IMG_5837 (640x619)

We have heat, humidity, drought, drenching rains, heavy black clay soil, so not the perfect climate for a lot of plants. My mother had Blaze red roses that were beautiful against the white brick, but they were subject to black mildew and black spot and so my dad finally removed them all. It was sad, but they put in a lot of crepe myrtles that blossom all summer and are mildew and black spot resistant.

Then I found the roses at one of the home supply and garden centers that were purportedly resistant to all the stuff that plagued the Blaze. So a couple of years ago, I planted the one and it was so successful, the flowers blooming nearly every month of the year without any hassle, no fungacide, no bug spray, no special fertilizers, that I was won over. They’re Knock-out roses, beautiful, and at least for now, seem perfect for here. I even over-water a bit because two of them are by a cypress tree and lots of jasmine cover, so I need to water some during our awful droughts. But they don’t seem to mind.

IMG_5844 (640x427)

It’s good to keep a color scheme that is more uniform, which makes it more showy. And red really stand out. But when I went to get some red, they were sold out. The pink were beautiful, so I picked up one of those that first year, then the next year planted another pink in that same area and a red in another area.
IMG_5855 (640x640)

So for my mom and dad, they are a memorial to their hard work at trying to make the roses viable.

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary–New Mexico

zoerro_timber_wolf_at_wild_spirit_wolf_sanctuary_sign

According to Rory Zoerb and the director, Leyton Cougar (who should be in one of my cougar books for certain with a name like that!), Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is  a non-profit organization and they’re always looking for ways to get more help to take care of their rescues: wolves, wolf-dogs, New Guinea Singing Dogs, Australian Dingoes and a little red fox. They have all kinds of wolf encounter experiences there at the sanctuary; hikes with wolves, cabin visits, photography tours, meet-n-greets, and more.

They  have four Ambassadors that have been socialized to humans and are able to participate in a variety of situations with the human they have bonded with. They do photo shoots on location too. Zoerro has been in a fair amount of film projects and photo shoots.

This Leyton with Sabine, an Arctic wolf. She is Zoerro’s new girlfriend and they believe she will be going out and doing things with Zoerro in no time.

I haven’t had an Arctic find a gray wolf mate  in any of my books, but what do you think??? And then have Zoerro and Sabine at the book signing?

They have a two-story cabin that they rent out for only $85 a night (currently) so people can come and stay at their 90-acre sanctuary and get the full wolf experience. They have custom encounter packages
based on the desires of their guests. And the wolves get enrichment by going out and doing fun things with their human and their guests.

So who’s ready to go with me?

http://www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org/ambassadors.php

More pictures of the wolves coming up.

I’ve been to the one in Texas, the one near Omaha, NE twice, missed seeing the one near Colorado Springs while I was up there, and am going to see The International Wolf Center in Ely, MN in the fall.

But this one sounds perfect for a visit!

I’ve had several queries if I’d write another follow up to Legend of the White Wolf’s Arctic pack, and yes, I will. Also for Heart of the Wolf’s original pack as well. Just need more hours in the day to write! 🙂

Legend of the White Wolf

Arctic werewolves in a romantic suspense.

I’m back to working on A SEAL Wolf for Sale. I only have 20,000 words to write, then lots of editing to do before I turn it in.

Have a super great TGIF with Wolves!

Cougar’s Mate is the first book in the Heart of the Cougar Series, and I plan to write Call of the Cougar by Christmas.

Cougar’s Mate: Instinct told her to run…

Shannon Rafferty learns that hanging out with the bad boys could be a dangerous business, but hooking up with a cop is even worse. Now she’s on the run, trying to avoid being murdered by his cougar shifter brothers and uncle. If that isn’t bad enough, a deputy sheriff hunts her down while she’s running as a cougar and trying to survive in the Colorado wilderness. He vows to protect her no matter what she’s done. With three dead boyfriends to her name, she’s sure she will be the death of Chase Buchanan before either of them can prevent it. No matter how much she knows she has to run again, he soon holds her heart hostage. But will that be enough to keep them both alive?

Chase Buchanan—as wilderness cabin resort owner, former US Army Special Forces, and part time deputy of the small town of Yuma, Colorado that boasts a love of cougars—is tasked to track down a cougar reported to be hunting human prey. Chase soon learns she’s a shifter, not a full-time cougar, and she’s on the run. When he takes her in, he vows to protect her. After losing his wife and baby to the human kind of predator years earlier, he’s not letting Shannon’s hunters kill her, too. But how is he going to hold onto the wild-cat woman, who is unpredictable at every turn, without losing his heart to her, and then losing her as well?

I just finished A Hero of a Highland Wolf and returned it so it’s ready to come out in August.

I have 20,000 left to write on A SEAL Wolf for Sale, but then I’ll be revising it. But that’s really the fun part for me. It’s written, and then it needs to be revised.

And then??? Time for A Viking’s Highland Lass. I also am taking part in an anthology with a group of Highland authors. And then I have to write A Silver Wolf Christmas, Call of the Cougar, and Phantom Fae.

But I also have 6 conferences to go to….

I can do it. 🙂

Have a super great Thursday!!!

What Goes with Scottish Whisky Tea?

Scottish Whisky tea in an antique Lochs of Scotland cup and saucer from Royal Warwick, Scottie dog shortbread from Walkers, and Cougar’s Mate by Terry Spear. Lovely way to spend the night!
Cougar's Mate, Scottish Whisky tea, Angela Simmons
Thanks, Angela! This was so cute!! I hope you had a lovely nip of whisky tea and Scottie shortbread cookies and were swept away to the world of sexy and fun cougar shifters. LOVED this.
What could be better? Other than sitting in a cool Highland castle while sipping the whisky tea and eating the shortbread cookies and reading Cougar’s Mate, eh?
My fans are the best! And I love pictures like this. 🙂
Okay, here is a picture of the red blood moon as it was going through the eclipse. You can see a speck of star at the top of the moon, and the North Star down below. The wolves came out to howl at the moon to give it some extra ambiance.  And that was what I stayed up until 3 in the morning for yesterday!

I was so close to getting my word count, but had to critique 5 chapters for my critique partner, and still need to get to Hero of  a Highland Wolf edits. Teach me to stay up all night. I’m a morning person, so staying up does not mean I sleep in the next day. Are you that way?
See, I’m a blue sunlight person.
I did bring some of that whisky tea home from Scotland, and thistle tea, etc. Loved it.
So I’m off to do edits and finish up my word count for A SEAL Wolf for Sale.
My week is absolutely running away from me!
Happy Middle of the Week Day!

******************************

The problem with working on books and then turning them in, is they come back for edits. Then second round of edits. Then final edits. Then proofing edits.

The good thing is that I’ve written 4 more books while that happens, so every time a book comes back for edits, I’m all right with it because it’s been a while since I read it last!

The bad thing is that I’m working on a current book and hate to leave that story behind because each story I’m working on, either new, or the edited finished book, I really get into. Then it’s hard for me to get back to the book I’m working on.

The good thing is that the edited book A Hero of a Highland Wolf, will be out in August, so that’s a time to celebrate. And the other good news is that while I’m working on the current book, I will be reminded that, hey, I finished a book before, I can do it again.

039bc-herohighlandwolf-30028487x80029

The bad news is that it makes me behind on my word count for the new book.

Soooo, I wrote 5,000 on Monday to make up for it, and have to write another 5,000 to make my word count for the week. And have 25,000 words left to go.  This is where I’m coming down to the wire. I’ve got to ensure I’ve wrapped up all the loose ends, I have to make sure that everything in the story is important to the story. I have to figure out who the bad guy is. 🙂

Sometimes, I know from the start. Sometimes, I like the bad guy too much and can’t make him the bad guy. LOL

So there you have it. Not even I know how this will end.

I’m off though, to get more of something done.

Have a delightful Tuesday!

The Easter Bunny Hath Cometh

Cottontail bunny (2)close up bunny (640x364)Bunny and flowers (576x640)

I’ve seen at least two bunnies, one that hopped off, and the other that remained under the blooming photinia and the red cedar tree. With the snakes in my house, it was easy to see a pattern and realize the two snakes were not the same. But with bunnies, don’t they all look the same to you? How could you tell them apart?

Mysteries abound at my house–and so I had something that dug into the grass next to my cement drive. There’s a lot of cement underneath the grass there because the brick wall is perpendicular to the driveway. And there are no shrubs there so the rabbits aren’t out there. Plus with the cars driving by on the road, it would make them skittish.

It actually dug through the roots of a crepe myrtle that is growing on the other side of the brick wall.

I thought it might be a neighbor’s big dog, but I’ve never seen one around here. We do have skunks, but I’ve never seen them dig a hole in the yard. At my other house, I did find the skeleton of a wild boar in the creek down the road, but I doubt anything like that would come here. Some suggested an armadillo. I’ve never seen one here, did run into one in Oklahoma when I lived there. Scared me because he came straight at me, which made me think he was rabid. They do carry leprosy, so not interested in having them around.

So what do YOU think? Can you tell if the bunnies are all the same one or different? Can you figure out what was digging in my yard? It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but it was deep.
