Beauty in the Heat

106 degrees heat index, and the baby cardinal is panting. The monarchs have been all over the milkweed! Vultures were at a wake. Honeybees were all over the liriope. And a hummingbird was feeding off the milkweed. Need to set my ISO at a faster speed so I can capture more than a blur, but man is he fast!

Oh, and reached my word count for the book!!! Now I just need to finish it. Baby’s here today, so off to play with her and keep her out of trouble.

One is an Illusion

All birds look the same, right? So I was seeing this one little female baby constantly coming down to get seeds. Until I saw 3 babies and a daddy. I only caught two and the daddy in these shots. The same with a red-bellied woodpecker. I kept seeing this baby come down to eat. Then I saw two of them at the same time and realized there was a family feeding there, not just one.

The flowers are lavender lantana. I had it in a basket and figured the lantana wouldn’t make it during the summer when I was on a trip, so I planted it in the ground. It’s a perennial, so I didn’t want to lose it. It looked HORRIBLE, no flowers, just barely living, and all of a sudden, it is flowering like crazy. Yay! It will get nice and big eventually. Right now it’s small and not that noticeable.

I was excited to see a monarch, or maybe there were several? feeding and laying eggs on the milkweed. They haven’t been here all year, except in the spring, and I saw two caterpillars and then they were gone. I think it was too early for them. Anyway, then I recalled I had them way too late in the year and lost some that way. The milkweed flowers were still blooming, but it was getting cold at night. In any event, I’m thrilled to see they have returned. Which means I have to get my camera ready.

I’m getting closer to my word count on Silver Town Wolf Christmas, just trying to wrap it up!

The Flowers Are Coming Back!

It was really windy when I went out to capture some shots. Does that sound like an excuse for why some are not real sharp? But it was! I tried to hold a stem one time, that doesn’t work. Then I couldn’t focus. lol

Okay baby is here today and I did get my edits off for Jaguar. But got request for promo stuff on the A Billionaire Wolf for Christmas coming out in October. I know I’ll be getting edits on the SEAL wolf book too soon. I’m trying to finish the Silver Town Wolf Christmas book again.

Off to take care of the baby! Have a fun day! Love the zinnias. They are looking so pretty!

Storms Make for Great Vampire Days…and Nights

We had stormy-looking weather, barely any chance of rain, and it poured. Yay! The sunset was spectacular! It truly looked like a vampire day…and night!

One of the covers I had to redo for my vampire series, was The Siren’s Lure. I loved the first one I had, but it was a stock photo that I found was popping up all over other authors’ books, so I had to create my own.

I had to put aside Silver Town Wolf Christmas for a day because I had to work on final edits for You Had Me at Jaguar. They’re due Friday, and I have to take care of baby on Wed and Fri, so today I’ll finish it up and turn it in. I have 3 more chapters and a prologue to go. And then I’ll be adding the edits in that I’ve done on the paper copy of Silver Town Wolf Christmas.

I can’t remember why I started writing vampire novellas, but I did, and so this is one of them!

The Siren’s Lure, a novella

The Blue Octopus Troubles Returneth

Truly, this could be a short story! So I return the 3 blue octopuses that were not what I ordered, and got a note yesterday from Amazon saying that I was being charged for one that wasn’t returned, and what they were charging me for was more than the refund they gave me because they cheated me out of my refund to begin with!

So I was back on the chat again, trying to get it straightened out. Yes, all three ugly blue octopuses had been received. Wow, what are they trying to pull anyway??? And yes they refunded me for a different teapot that was less expensive and they owed me $8.13. They would give me $8. Does that sound screwy or what? And besides that, they applied it toward another item that I didn’t need a refund for, something entirely different.

And they still probably shorted me on the amount. Sheesh.

So I made a video for my first vampire romantic suspense, and am working on the ones for the others in the story, revamping my webpage, and redoing 3 more covers. Another is done, but I still need to work on 3 more, and then I’ll make some fun videos for each of them. I made two more yesterday for others.

When I was thirteen, my mother took me to see Dracula, a play at a local community college, and I fell in love with the count. He deserved to love and be loved in return. That’s how I felt. Poor guy.

In this story, the huntress is NOT falling for the vampire… But there’s a twist. Oh, and I worked at Fort Hood where she’s stationed, so some of the places she’s at, I was at.

Okay, I’ve got to get to writing. I have edits on You Had Me at Jaguar due on Friday, baby will be here two days a week now until next summer, and I’m still trying to reach the end on the Silver Town wolf book. I am having fun watching the birds too–there are three red-bellied woodpeckers flying back and forth to the feeder, I saw two hummingbirds yesterday, a monarch butterfly, a number of blue jays, and a family of cardinals are all over the place this morning. I’m in fairy bird heaven.

Chickadees and Cardinals

I adore chickadees (rarely see them, but my rosebush has grown to five feet tall and cover the feeders, so I think they feel safer to feed), and I had two of them at the same time, but they’re so quick that I couldn’t catch two of them together at once. And the little female cardinal is a baby. I pictured her momma and daddy yesterday. There are two babies.

Sooooo, I did get my word count, but I also spent tons of time trying to fix things. I took a broom handle to the disposal. Yay! It worked.

I talked to Apple techs for an hour and a half, and finally, finally got my issue resolved. And the plumbers fixed my plumbing. So those were three of the MAJOR issues I needed to fix. The phone still does its out of control like a robot has gone haywire alerts. And my tires still say they need inflating. Well, not the tires exactly, but the idiot light in the car does.

So that’s not bad, really. The three really important things were fixed. The others…I still need to resolve. The issue with my Mac came up when I did an update. The issue with my phone came up when I did an update. Do you see a pattern here????

Okay, 10,000 words to go to get word count, AND I have edits on a book I need to finish and turn in, so happy weekend, everyone!

Do You Ever Hope Problems Will Go Away?

By themselves? Like, if you ignore it long enough, it will right itself? Do they? Ever?

Okay, my list, I realize, is starting to grow. I can’t get logged into my Mac. Maybe it’s more secure from predators with all the hoops you have to go through to access your darn computer, but if the person who owns it can’t, then it’s a FAIL.

Next, I take a shower and my toilet starts to gurgle. And then my shower won’t drain. If I run the water in the sink after taking a shower, the toilet gurgles. Ugh. Maybe the water level is so high (we did have a lot of rain the other day, ignore the fact we had a lot of drought the first time), that was the problem, but guess what? It’s NOT going away.

Then, my garbage disposal isn’t running. I rarely, rarely use it. For the last twenty years, I’ve lived in rural homes and you couldn’t use one for a septic tank. They always install them in the homes, but I never used them. So, by habit, I dump stuff I can in the composter, and anything else in the trash. Why did the stupid thing go out on me in 2 1/2 years then? Ludicrous. I’ve tried the reset button. I hear a tiny grinding, so it’s trying to do something. And there’s nothing stuck in there because I never put anything in there but maybe the remnants of gravy, or something. And yes, I run water in there at the same time.

And…my low tire light came on in my car. So I fill the tires up with air and it continues to show low tire. The last time this happened, I ended up getting some bark mulch, my car was weighted down, and without adding any more air to the tire, it suddenly reset itself and no more warning light. Maybe I need to get a ton more bark mulch to fix it again? If everything could be so easy! Oh, wait, putting more air in the tires should have been enough, right?

If only I could call one person to fix everything, wouldn’t that be great?

Getting Distracted While Already Distracted…

How often does that happen to you?

I wanted to do too many things at once, and was halfway preparing a lunch, feeding the birds, putting groceries away, reheating my tea, too many things at once. So I have a potato partly peeled, the microwave dinger is going off, I need to empty the pot of water (recycle water as much as possible) into the hanging plants before I can boil my potato, see the birdfeeder is empty, return to start the potato, get distracted by the meat I want to divide up and freeze, and still haven’t started my lunch.

Time out. One thing at a time. Do I? Do one thing at a time? Nope. But I did grab my tea out of the microwave to stop the annoying dinger from dinging and driving me batty.

Off to work on the story. I had to run errands today, which always puts me off on my writing. But with the new chair, I’m happily writing away, except, when I’m at my desk…I see the birds: a lovely little female cardinal, two mourning doves sleeping at the base of the rosebush, a rare sighting of a little chickadee. Aww, darn it. I need my camera.

So now I’m set up, waiting for the chickadee or cardinal to return, took pictures of the hot, little, sleepy doves

…and yes, getting to my blog super late, and 3/4ths of the way done on my word count. It’s working!!! These are older pictures I took of chickadees, and oh, wow, I just saw a green Carolina anole puff out his red throat!!! I’ve never see that before, but I didn’t catch it! Okay, eyes on manuscript. No more looking out window.
