Reindeer Pups

I love my dogs. They make great frog princes, reindeer, pumpkin heads, Ewoks, whatever I can think of to turn them into and they’re so good-natured about it. Okay, so Tanner looks like he’s giving me the look and Max won’t look at the camera (but he is camera shy and he never looks at the camera if he can avoid it), but really, they are eager for me to pay attention to them so they both are jumping at me to try the “thing” on. When one has it on, the other one wants it on, then it’s time to take it off. Good puppies.

I’m still working on Vampire Redemption, 8,000 words in 3 days. I have 23,000, need around 50-60K more. I’m hoping to be halfway done by the end of next week (around 40K), but I’ll have to begin working on the Highland wolf book, so I may not get this done for another year.

Not all vampires are evil in my books. When I saw Dracula in the theater when I was a teen, I fell in love with him. He deserved to be loved. Just like Wolfman did. So in my stories, vampires can be good and some are rogues, just like in my wolf stories. Just like humans.

Hunters, who survived the Black Death like the vampires, are changed, except they don’t drink blood. They hunt the rogues. But what happens when a hunter is turned? Now the rogue vampires really have a fight on their hands.

I’m off to get things done! We’re having our Christmas early so the kids can see his parents for Christmas Day. We alternate each year. I used to see my son on alternate years, but he and his new wife are having her mother visit instead. So that will throw us off completely for next year. Either they can visit and see all of us, or I’ll visit them at some other time. Family is really important to me, but it has to work both ways.

I Feel Like This…

in this cold, cold weather.

Added 2,000 more to the vampire story yesterday. This morning I’m just trying to get warm, though I need to take out the garbage and the dogs. Yesterday, we had heavy frost on everything and the roofs made it look like it had snowed.

In other news: you just never know where a story idea might come from. I was reading an article about reversing aging by adding certain chemicals to cells. Now, just think of the repercussions of that! Even very old people can rejuvenate their bodies through this process. Not just stop aging, but reverse it! Sounds like science fiction.

Can you imagine all the businesses that would be put out of business? All the new startup businesses that would evolve? Some that would be illegal, trying to sell a product that would be dangerous to users? Or cheaper because the procedure is too expensive? Facelifts are out. Forget the cosmetics that claim rejuvenating ingredients.

Chemical salons would start up and people could sit in the salon chairs to get their chemical treatments and watch their wrinkled skin tighten and become ageless.

But what if you get addicted to it? Like some are to plastic surgery? What if one treatment every year isn’t enough? What if…you went too far. Or it affected people differently. One rejuvenated the right amount, and another became a juvenile.

For the condition in children where they age rapidly, this might be a good way for them to aid them in slowing down or even reversing the process. For the rest of us? Hmmm, could I remember more? Write faster? Have a few more years to finish the millions of books I have on my computer and in my head before I die?

It Might Not be Snowing, but…

From 80 to 30 in a nanosecond, it’s cold out there. Little one is here and keeping me busy, so first time I had a chance to do a blog.

We read a ton of books every time she comes to stay with me. And we were vacuuming. We’ll mop later. It’s an electric one, so it will be interesting to see how she handles that.

I still can’t figure out what to do with the new book, but I did add 5,000 words to a vampire one I started as a sequel to another about eight years ago. I have a lot of books like that. lol

With little one here, it was a wild and hectic day. But I finally realized it was Friday the 13th again, and created this fun picture that is more Christmassy.

We’re going to try and jumpstart my car so I can get it to a mechanic. Hope it’s just the battery.

My Car is Broken

It won’t start so the only way to explain that to a toddler is: it’s broken.

That’s how it feels to me too. It won’t work. It’s broken. Where I lived before, I had a great mechanic who lived near me. He always fixed things and I never worried about being overcharged or told I needed something I didn’t need.

Here, I don’t know who to call.

Anyway, I feel that my granddaughter never left. By the time her parents picked her up last night, it felt it was practically time for her to be dropped off again early this morning. We always have fun though.

Okay, we’re off to take a walk in the cold!

Magic in the World

Kitten up for adoption I captured at a cat show. He needs some magic in his world. A home. A family to love and play with. I took one home like that and she was wonderful-16 years of love. She was this age when I took her in. But my Son-in-Law is deathly allergic to cats, so no more kitten adoptions.

I finished reading Hero of a Highland Wolf and I need to read Heart of the Highland Wolf now because I figured out who Enrick needs to have a relationship with. Heather MacNeill, and all I remember about her was that Ian, pack leader and cousin, was always trying to keep her under his control. So I need to read more about her again, and still trying to figure out a story, plot, beginning and then will run with it.

This afternoon, my granddaughter and I are visiting her mom’s workplace and seeing all the gingerbread houses the school cafeteria staff made and the doors the staff decorated. And I have babysitting duty Thursday night while mom and dad go to a Christmas party.

I still want to do a little more on Joy to the Wolves, so haven’t turned it in yet. I might get it done tomorrow.

Having to Cut Down on a Manuscript

Sigh. I hate it when I have to take out a bunch of words, though I’m sure some will improve the pacing. But some….maybe not. One of the things an editor changed was my comment about some people being shorter in an earlier century–referring to an antique Napoleon bed in the story. It was one that I’d seen in a showcase home and it definitely was for someone smaller. So the editor changed it to all people–well, not all people were shorter back then. My Scots and German ancestors were tall. And when I looked it up, I found an article about how the Scots were averaging 6-7 feet much earlier on in height and were shrinking in size now! My daughter-in-law had a mother who was Korean, so shorter, but her father was from the Netherlands and he and his ancestors were taller. She has his genes and has a taller stature.

So I changed the statement back to the one I’d made. Another bone of contention was a drug bust. I had too many criminals (3), and too many agents (not really specified–just one named who is a wolf and part of their wolf pack). It was a quick scene, no one really mentioned except the officer giving them their rights and another field testing the drugs, and the wolf. If you have millions worth of cocaine that the criminals are trying to retrieve, how many guys do you send? One? How many law enforcement officers? One?

It’s a work of fiction. My editor always says it must be realistic. (I write about werewolves, just for those who don’t read my books. *smiling*) To me, writing that only 1 or 2 bad guys come to pick up the cocaine is unrealistic. And law enforcement would not send a cop or two to grab them and the drugs. I watch all kinds of true crime scenarios, news reports of local drug busts and this works. Cutting back the number of people, who are not really mentioned in any detail, would be unrealistic.

My next big issue is the value of a couple of antique vases. No. Not creditable. But I researched all this when I wrote the story, so I just added 7 links of the sale of these period pieces and the amount they sold for. Some were nearly twice what I’d “sold” mine for! I priced them too low!

So I’m back to trimming. Wish me luck!

Falling for the Cougar

Army Captain Nicole Welsh’s premonitions of danger warn her more trouble is headed her way after her parents died in an unexplained car accident. Scott Weekum is a finance officer at Fort Hood, Texas, having every intention of having a good time at Galveston Island, and rescuing a mermaid from the Gulf, who he envisions is in trouble. Supposedly, the tropical storm is moving out of the area, so he should be fine. What he doesn’t expect to find is that the mermaid is also an officer from Fort Hood, she has premonitions like he has, she’s a cougar, and she believes she’s in danger. Since he’d just broken up with a she-cat who had transferred to another post and he’s all alone, and she’s all alone, he’s determined to spend the time with Nicole. Except she seems to think someone’s stalking her, and her paranoia is beginning to rub off on him. Is she in danger? He’s not sure what to think, but has every intention of protecting her, whether she needs his protection or not.
