Doggy Daycare, Dragons, and a Cougar Wannabe…

Okay, so no baby this week. I’ve got corgi power instead. Rilo, the black and tan Welsh Pembroke corgi, was my first grandbaby. 🙂  Luna came after that. So I’ve been their grandmama before my dogs came along and before the first grandbaby–human persuasion, came along. Here they are with my dogs chilling out near where I am at my desk. “What, Max??? Don’t tell me you want to go out! Now! When everyone just got settled down.”

Yep, and so it goes. I take three dogs out at a time. Mine don’t usually hassle the next-door dogs, but the corgis will, so I take them out on leash, one at a time, for the most part. I did “lose” Luna as she darted out the door one time, and Rilo another. But I was lucky. The neighbor’s dogs weren’t out. They all go crazy.

Because I write about fae dragon shifters, I had fun with creating the dragons courting in the one picture. You thought they were fighting, didn’t you? I write HEA so they are HEA. 🙂  And I write about cougar shifters. So I thought it was fun that the Abyssinian cat wishes she could be a cougar when she grows up.

I’m off to write. It’s supposed to be stormy, so I’m hoping it won’t be too much of a hassle taking the dogs out in the rain all day. 🙂

Flying Fur! Mushrooms! And Spring is on its Way!

Havanese in play. Dianthus blooming now. I put them in last year. love it when I can plant perennials that will come back and be more beautiful every year. Orange mushrooms in the fairy garden.

Baby is here, so got to run. 🙂 <3

Mohair Bears and Bunny

So I went to the maternity shoot, and the couple was so much fun. As soon as I got home, I had to go to a neighbor’s Super Bowl party, and that was enjoyable. Picked up another bear order. lol

I looked at some of the maternity pictures, and a lot of them came out beautifully. They wanted pictures of the two dogs too, so between them trying to get them situated, and the dogs being distracted, that was a challenge. But I loved the pictures with the dogs.

I’ll show off a couple soon.

Here are some more bears, but these are the more expensive mohair furs from England and Germany. In the old days, the US had factories that made mohair sweaters, but they don’t any more. So the mohair fabric has to come from Overseas. I love, love, love it, but the material is sooooo expensive–$135-150 or more a yard, and I can’t sell them for much more than I sell plush, which is $35 a yard for the special furs. Once I finish selling off the ones I can make of the mohair fabric I have left, I won’t be offering them any longer. But I do love them!

I hadn’t planned on making any word count yesterday, but I managed 1,000, so am up to 4,000. Seventy-six thousand to go! It might seem impossible, but I didn’t think I’d have 4,000 at the rate I was going!

And I finished up a purple bear that I’ll show off tomorrow. I have to wait until it’s light out to take a picture. 🙂

Oh, and reviews said that the 85mm lens was supposed to be great for portraits. I’ve tried to take pictures with it before, but they’re always way too dark. In the viewer, all I have is black scenes. I used it to shoot the mohair bears and bunny, but on automatic. I haven’t used the auto setting in eons, once I learned how to do manual. But…with this lens, the pictures were like totally black, no matter how I adjusted settings. Auto did a beautiful job on them. The pictures below are of Tanner, my perfect model as he always loves to pose for me. The first was with manual, indoors, and the second, on Auto, outdoors. Yes, the lighting was dark in the house, overcast skies so not a lot of light from outside through the windows. But when I tried to do the manual outdoors, it was still really dark pictures. So I used auto on the maternity shoot and they turned out beautifully. When I did my daughter and her husband’s maternity shoot last year, I think I used the 28-300 lens, they were soft. So these were nice and sharp.

Have to ship a bear and check on shipping costs for a bear to Australia, and finish another bear too! But I also have to get my word count. And go over the maternity shoot photos so I can send them off.

So off to get started. Yes, it’s 4 am….couldn’t sleep, too much to do. 🙂

Freezing Rain Mixed with Snow…

Our high was 31 and temps are dropping. Feels like 19 degrees, and we’re having freezing rain.

If anything looks cool, I’ll try to take a picture of it. We have snow on the rooftops already.

Our weather is totally weird. The puppies were racing all over in the freezing rain first time I let them out this morning, but kept running back in the house because I wouldn’t go out with them. Finally bundled up and went out with them so they’d do their business outside in the rain. Now that they’ve eaten their breakfast, I have to take them out again.

I’m trying to stay warm and get over the galloping crud still. Saturday it’s supposed to be 71 degrees. That’s Texas for you!

When You’re Sick…

Get plenty of rest, right?

Are they kidding? Painful sore throat, teeth hurt so they feel they need to be pulled, can’t breathe, coughing…

Get plenty of rest???? I wish!

Even though I felt terrible yesterday, I managed to proof the last two fae print books, and two of the ebooks.

Baby is coming. She’s the one who gave me this. I love her anyway. 🙂 <3 She picks up everything from the daycare. I usually am lucky to dodge most of it. But I caught what she had in October, and now again….

All I need to do is rest though. Yep. Easy. Peasy. AFTER…she goes home for the night! And IF all the stuff that’s keeping me awake, goes away. No problemo.

Just…nod off and I’m good.

Telling a Story in Pictures

You can see what I’m doing today. Baby is talking to Tanner. Then she reaches out to pet him. When she pulls her hand back, he rests his chin on the box, and she smiles. She adores the havanese and they adore her.

I’m now putting her in the room where they sleep so she’ll nap better. They kept going in there to check on her. So I put them in their crates nearby to nap too, and everyone’s happy. When she woke the first time, she looked up to see where she was, and saw Max in his crate nearby, Tanner a little further away, and for the first time she didn’t cry when waking from a nap. She’s sleeping again, so we’ll see if this is a success, but both times, she’s slept for about an hour instead for a few minutes. So that part is definitely a boon.

More Snow Pictures in Spring!

These are Havanese tracks in the snow. 🙂 See? I can track a Havanese, just like that. *Snaps Fingers*

Snow on the fountain–captured after most of the snow melted. Would have liked to get one earlier before it had, but was taking care of baby. Snow comes here anywhere from once every 15-30 years, sooooo, that’s why it’s such a big event. I know for those in snow country, they’re amused. But some around here have never seen snow before!

I’ve been in a blizzard skiing, not good, but it came up and I had to come down. Do you know how hard it is to ski when you can’t make out the horizon? Everything looks…white. There’s no mountain, no slope, just…white.  I was by myself too. Not my fault. But I took more spills trying to come down off the mountain when I couldn’t see the slope for the snow.

And we lived in Wisconsin when I was a kid and my dad carried me to the bus stop because the snow was so high. Was in a blizzard in Amarillo, Texas, well, several, trying to make my way home from work to Canyon, and couldn’t tell where the centerline was, the shoulder, or what I was really driving on. I was in another in St. Louise for Thanksgiving one year on my way to share Thanksgiving with my boss’s family when I was on Army duty, and really didn’t think I was going to make  it.

We always built a snow fort, had snow fights, and built a snowman in Oklahoma, couldn’t get out of my parking lot in Maryland after I finally made it home in the snowstorm, and in New Jersey, didn’t think I’d make it home in the snowstorm mixed with ice, when they had early release for everyone but the military.

And yet, I see snow, and it’s a thrill. Not like if I had to live in it for several months of the year though.

The Woods…

The original woods and then the fun versions using Topaz Labs. I had the baby over and sometimes while she’s sleeping, I can play with photos, but trying to do much of anything else is hard. We do a lot together and have fun though.

If I were writing about the woods, looking at the different pictures, it would evoke different moods for the story. Everything is a picture to me. I wrote 1,000 words last night after baby went home, and when I went to bed, I was thinking of another scene. I could see the Highlanders being angry with the encroaching clan, swords drawn, words spoken.  I was too tired to write it down, and that usually means I forget it by the time I wake up. But, thankfully, I still remember it, so will start with it first thing this morning.

I’m really at the end of the story, so I need to finish it up.

Oh, and so far, it looks like I don’t have a rat problem any longer. Max killed one of them. He’s the white one and so fast. Both Havanese are. They shoot out of the house like bullets, so I have to warn birds before I allow the dogs to leave the house. They’ve caught 3 birds, but that was before I started making them sit before I allow them to leave. They didn’t kill them, but caught them, and I made them release them, then I carried them out front so they could recover and they flew off.

The rats only come out at night, so last night and this morning in the dark, they would be on the feeders. I turn on the porch light and release the dogs. Last night there were none. And none this morning. So I might have found a natural deterrent. 🙂

Christmas Lights and Havanese

My poor puppies have to put up with a lot. First, it was Halloween costumes. Now…this.

Tanner, the one on the left, loves to pose for pictures. Max would rather sit on my lap and get lots of loving.

So after I went to pick up the lights on the floor, Max headed for the hills (or, under the dining room table.) Tanner was wagging his tail at me, ready for more photos. He is the perfect little model. 🙂 <3 Of course, I praised Tanner and laughed at Max and he came running out to greet me. No more photo shoots for the day.

Purple and Orange…

I love purple and orange, so Lilac bear is ready for Halloween, and Max is like, okay, take the picture of me in this ridiculous lion’s hat and get it over with already. First, it was a pumpkin on my head. Then Momma turned me into an Ewok. And then the lion drama. Now she’s dressing the bears she made and poor baby. She’s always dressing her. You’d think we were all doll babies. Ugh.

Yep, it’s picture time!
