When Finishing One Goal is Impossible…

Switch to another. Really. Do it. Don’t say, okay, do a little happy dance, because you can’t accomplish the one goal in just that instant, or pull out your hair… jump on another goal you need to accomplish! You’ll feel better. Really. You’ll get something else done.

Can you tell I’m a workaholic? Well, and have so many deadlines. If I didn’t, I’d goof off more. Maybe.

Late yesterday afternoon I was near the end of proofing Phantom Fae. I was soooooooo close to the end. I wanted to finish it and send it off to the narrator so she could update it. I wanted to be able to relisten to the changes and approve it, pay her, and have another project hanging over my head–finished, done, completed. Because I have a stack of other projects I HAVE to get done. Soon. On deadline.

So what does it do? Storms. Thunder. Lightning. Pouring rain. The works. My computer kept flickering on and off, but I was so desperate to finish. I finally finished, went to send her the final changes, no Internet.

Okay, so that’s fine. I have 8 bears stacked up waiting for me to work on them. Though I was multi-tasking when I was listening to the audiobooks, jointing, then stuffing bears at the same time.

But I still had a ton of work to do on them. Still do. But they’re getting closer to being done. This morning, still trying to get the one book finished up to approve. The narrator hasn’t pressed a button to allow me to approve it yet. The other is DONE. And this morning, I’m working on marketing materials for one of the books I need to write. Still clueless about the other, but I’m making some headway on this one. 🙂 But wait, what color was Everett’s eyes and hair? And will the missing cub be a female or male? Always the questions.

SAVE…SAVE…SAVE…SAVE…SAVE!

Okay, I FINISHED She-Wolf Leader of the Pack! Woohoo!!!

And lost it.

I have my autosave set to a minute. It’s autosaving. I see it autosaving. But it really ISN’T, I’ve learned the hard way. I have to manually save. So I guess I was tired last night after writing 11,000 words over word count. See? I made word count and then some. And was done! Finished! The end! I’m still rereading and editing and I need to add Dedication, Acknowledgements, Author Bio (more words!), BUT, I was done with the story.

I NORMALLY save a copy and send it to my email after I’ve finished for the day. But last night after I was done, I began listening to Huntress for Hire again to proof the audiobook. 1 1/2 hours left to go on that. Need to do the proofing on Phantom Fae audiobook after that. Need to put Phantom Fae in print. Need to make 8 bears. Need to fill out the marketing stuff for the 3 books, 2 that I haven’t written and the one I just finished–just got the request last night. Need to pack for two trips.

Soooooo, I have a LOT on my plate, and I’m whittling away at all of this. My computer crashed, and guess what? I hadn’t saved my FINISHED book in an email. My cloud saver doesn’t save the external hard drive where my story was, but it wouldn’t have mattered because the story wasn’t saved anyway. For whatever reason. I swore I had done it automatically. My only saving grace and the reason I’m not pulling my hair out is that I printed out the story to the end and will now have to type up all those pages. Thank God for hard copies. I just hope that I hadn’t gone in and made a bunch of changes earlier in the mss that weren’t saved. Because I did do that, but those pages weren’t printed out.

I really didn’t need to waste the time retyping pages when I have so much other work to do. *sigh* But I am glad I printed out the pages, and a warning to myself and others, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. Everywhere.

Back to my busy schedule!

I got word count! Over it. Still working on edits and then will be finishing the book. Still haven’t written a couple of must have scenes and the climax and end. 🙂 <3 But also listening to the audiobook for Huntress for Hire. Worked on another 3 hours of it. Have another 3 and a half hours to listen to and proof.

Off to work! Have a super great Monday! It’s a misty rain this morning, lots of lightning. Great vampire writing day. Which, Huntress for Hire is, so maybe I should work on it first??? 🙂 Sunny days are for werewolves. 🙂

Roses at the Castle Gate…

Hey, I write fiction, so to me, this is my castle and it looks like the roses could be at a castle gate, so…that’s what it is. Everything is in bloom. The Everblooming roses, pictured here in hot pink, macro shot, wind blowing them around, but still got a pretty good shot. And shrubs I didn’t realize bloom are in bloom. I’m working on She-Wolf, only 500 words to go to get word count, though I’ll still need to write a lot more to finish it. And I’m working on Huntress for Hire proofing for the audiobook, which is 9 hours plus long, and I’ve gotten through 2 hours of it. And that’s it! Except for constantly taking the furry ones out, researching about marijuana, not for me, for the story, and, well, yes, stopping to take pictures, can’t help myself, I’m trying to remain focused on She-Wolf. Oh, have 8 bear orders to do also. Okay, back to work! Happy Saturday!

Book Signings Coming Up!!

Barnes & Noble book signing in Waco, Texas will be at 6:30 on May 22. The manager is providing sample foods and door prizes, including a Nook Reader!! I’ll have Jaguar Pride to sign, but if you live in the area and already have books you want me to autograph, please feel free to come in and I’ll sign them. I’m sure they’ll have some other books available also already in stock. But if they don’t and you want me to autograph them, just ask the manager to get them and I’ll sign. I turned in A Silver Wolf Christmas edits, and have been working on She-Wolf. But I was asked to participate in a book signing and the date and time was firmed up so I wanted to start getting the word out because Barnes and Noble is going all out with door prizes and such! So if you live anywhere in the area, be sure and drop by and say hi!

I’ve Got a Cover!

And more bear orders! I have 4 now to work on. And I have 70 pages left to go over on A Silver Wolf Christmas. And of course that means She-Wolf is on hold for the moment. I hope to finish A Silver Wolf Christmas today and then get back to She-Wolf. It doesn’t mean I have quit on it. I wrote some more the night before last, just haven’t typed up my notes, and I was reading through the 1st 50 pages again to ensure I’m going in the right direction.

I also went over the changes to Hawk Fae last night, but two mistakes still exist, so once those are changed, I can approve it.

Well, the puppies just woke up, again, so bathroom break time. They woke me at 5 am this morning. I tried to ignore them, because 6:00 has been their get up time for most mornings. And I’d rather sleep until 6. But…ignoring them didn’t work.

I tried the collar on Tanner yesterday to see if I could get him used to listening to direction with it. He was sooooo good, but recently, he’s come into the terrible twos. He’s 5 mos old, and when I tell him to come, he used to run to me, now he sits and just gives me that look that says, “Make me.” So I put Max’s training collar on him while we were outside. He hadn’t a clue what was telling him to listen to me, and he kept attacking Max, thinking he was giving him grief.

So when we went inside, I began editing A Silver Wolf Christmas and the next thing I knew, the collar was sitting on the floor and both dogs were staring at it. I do need to begin training him though. Max is sooooo much better behaved and I can take him out and normally he comes to me with either a nudge from the collar or without it at all.

Okay, they really want out, so off to do potty duty.

And we’re back and they didn’t have to go….grrrr.

Have you ever thought–oh, this is going to be a piece of cake, and it wasn’t?

Okay, I thought I was reading through the final proof of A Silver Wolf Christmas. It isn’t. *sigh* It’s the one BEFORE that. No problem, but it’s a little more work than the final one which is the mocked up version of the real live book. Which I love. I really get to read it for enjoyment then.

I was looking for my A Silver Wolf Christmas picture and realized I don’t have one yet. They had to redo it, so still waiting on the approved version.

Anyway, so I’ve got 210 pages to go. Hey, no, I wasn’t running around collecting Easter bunny eggs, though I discovered my adorable puppies are collecting them. Maybe not Easter bunny eggs, but they are round, and the bunnies leave them behind. And the puppies think they are as good as treats. Argh. Dogs will be dogs.

But I did spend the majority of the day proofing the audiobook for Hawk Fae. It was 5+ hours long, which meant with all the puppy breaks I had to take, it was closer to 8 hours long. Now, I have to wait until the narrator fixes the mistakes, and then I can approve it, pay her, she releases it, and it’s in final review to be available to the public.

I’ve been trying to avoid going to a bunch of Facebook parties because I’ve got so much writing to do, plus I now have 2 more bear orders to do and another conference to go to.

So what do I do? I agree to do two on the same day! Tomorrow. *sigh* They’re fun, but time-consuming, and I need to get Silver Wolf Christmas edits done, get back to She-Wolf, and make two bears.

Thunderstorms and Rain? Or Just an Illusion?

Have you ever thought you were crazy? Last night we had a terrific thunderstorm, woke up the puppies and scared them. Both of them were barking their heads off because of the thunder booming right overhead. I don’t want them to be afraid of storms. So we settled in for a long winter’s nap. Well, spring bedtime, really. It was around 11 pm and I didn’t want to have my computer fried.

It poured. I could hear the rain coming down next to one of the windows. This morning, I expected to see wet pavement. My driveways were all dry on the side of the house. I couldn’t believe it! The grass was wet, but it can be wet with a heavy dew.

So I went to get the mail from yesterday and the telling place would be the front driveway. It has a couple of low spots that if it really rained, some water might still be there. And voila! Two big areas of wet stuff. Now, I feel exonerated. It poured rain last night and I’m not crazy!

Have you ever thought you were imagining something and it turned out to be real? Or you thought something was real and you only imagined it?

So Close…

The miniature roses are in bloom!

I’m so close to the end of word count, but the way it always happens is I end up writing about 7,000 or more words as I’m finishing up the story. 🙂 But that means rereading and rereading to make sure that I catch all the changes I’ve made as I’ve gone along in the story, and explain any loose ends. And flesh out some of the scenes. Like in one, they were talking. And talking. And talking. Which is really important. But, I needed to have some action and show something of their surroundings while they’re talking so that the reader still feels grounded in the story. 🙂

So things like that start to add up word count, but at a much slower pace. Which is why I still haven’t reached it, but am getting there. 8900 words to go.

It always amazes me when I start a new book and I have Chapter 1. That’s it. The title. And somehow get to THE END.

Off to whittle some more of the word count down. I can’t wait until I have really written the end, and can read all the way through for just enjoyment.
