Sick Puppy and Playing Catch Up

Max was throwing up all late afternoon, then got me up at midnight and didn’t make it outside for some of his other hurried business. But despite all the drama and cleanups, I managed to write 7,000 words. Then they wanted back out at 5 and so I stuck them in their crate for another hour of sleep afterward. But of course I didn’t sleep.

I was thinking of my next scene in the book. I left it at a cliff hanger. Heroine is in wolf form, lunges at hero. Normally, this means play time. In A Howl for a Highland Wolf, the heroine tackles the hero because he was late for a date and broke into her house, for good reason. But still, she was the perfect little guard wolf. In others, purely wolf play time. But in this one, she’s totally pissed off.

So that makes for a really fun, different scenario. 🙂 She’s brand newly turned. And what does that mean? A puppy that doesn’t know its own bite power, only she’s armed with adult WOLF teeth, which can crush bones. And he’s in his human form, so stopping an angry wolf makes it a tad difficult. I so love conflict. In my stories. Not in real life. I much prefer no drama. Like yesterday with a sick puppy.

You’d think that if a dog got sick on something, it would teach it not to eat it again. At least one of my dogs that I took in was not that smart. Every time she could get hold of any chocolate, no matter how much I safeguarded it from her, she devoured it and would be just as sick as Max. Didn’t matter. Next time, she’d do it again. I wish I knew what he got hold of. I have them both on leashes when we go out, but he’s tugging one way and Tanner’s tugging the other, so I have a time watching both sometimes.

Okay, so though I wrote a great number of words yesterday, I didn’t write enough. I needed 11,000 to catch up. That means 6500 today, at least trying, then I’m back on track tomorrow.

Max with his hair pulled back

Max with his hair pulled back

The little devil behind Max that ruined his coiffure.

The little devil behind Max that ruined his coiffure.

Max has been so good to allow me to rubber band his hair. I still need little ones. This was a big one and I had to wind it around his hair a number of times to get it to be tight enough. He was sooo patient with me.

Then? You see the little devil dog, Tanner, an angel in disguise behind him, chewing happily away at a piece of rawhide? Well, later, they were playing and Tanner pulled out Max’s rubber band and bit it in two before I got it away from him and threw it out. *sigh*

For those of us who love to read romantic stories, I thought this was so cute.

SEAL Wolf Hunting

SEAL Wolf Hunting

This dude sat down next to me on train. He’s so romance novel handsome I’m going to assume he’s a rancher navy seal billionaire werewolf.

All I’ve got to say is I hope she caught her man! 🙂 <3

Okay, puppies sleeping for the moment, so off to finish writing the scene with the lunging wolf. Yep, there she is, mid-air and what’s going to happen next. That’s a real cliff hanger. Oh, and my editor always wants the first kiss by page 60. So I try to have it before because with edits, my pages grow and then I’m past page 60. Dumb, I know. The kiss should happen when the kiss is supposed to happen, not on some arbitrary page number. But still, I was worried about it when I was thinking of the lunging scene.  Have I missed the obligatory kiss by page 60????

Yes, see the dilemmas I have when I have a moment to contemplate the novel?

And OMG, yes, I missed it by 5 pages. I was thinking in the lunge he was going to have to kiss her. Wonder how I was going to do that. But now, can’t do it. It’s got to be at least 5 pages before that. Bummer.

Have a super great wonderful…Saturday? Whoops, need to write another blog. Have fun!

Another Review for Jaguar Pride and Blogger Sites

A new review!!! Love it!

Heart of the Jaguar Series Collage

http://tometender.blogspot.com/2015/01/jaguar-pride-by-terry-spears-heart-of.html
Spears once again provides a hot tropical romance with sexy jaguars and other exotic animals facing guns welding bad guys.

This is a very enjoyable and highly entertaining, Jaguar Pride won’t disappoint the shifter romance fan.~~Shauna

I’m going to a paranormal romance readers’ convention soon and so asked my publisher if she would send some donated copies of my books for bloggers that will be there and she said, yes! Soooo, that’s good news. I was disappointed to learn that they didn’t have a book seller at the book signing. We’re limited to bringing only 5 books from home to the signing. That’s awful. What do I bring? You know how this works. The book you didn’t bring is the one readers want. And this is open to the public!

When I went to the Dallas signing, it was awful. They  had it open ONLY to conference attendees and hardly anyone showed up. Readers, that is. I had a couple fans bring books to autograph, but only sold one book. Driving made it easy to bring a variety.  But without readers in attendance, it doesn’t matter.

I think it’s a travesty not to have books to sell at a signing especially when we pay so much to attend these functions, not only the cost of the convention, but the hotel and airfare. Not to mention the time away from our writing. She mentioned selling ebooks. Anyone can pick up ebooks online. You don’t need to go to a book signing for that. At least I had a number of bloggers who were interested in having books for special giveaways. They’ll be autographed. But I really want to reach my readers AT the event also. *sigh* It IS a readers event.

Okay, so we’re into training puppies some more.  I do really well some days and other days, it’s a losing battle. Yesterday, I needed to finish editing A Silver Wolf Christmas. As of today, I need 11,100 words to catch up on SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble. Yep, taking four days to edit this other book put me way behind on SEAL Wolf Diving. Soooo, I finished edits on Silver and am turning them in today, and then working on SEAL all day.

So on puppy training. They were up for 6 hours yesterday morning, wouldn’t take a nap, didn’t want them up on my lap since I’m trying to get Silver done, so I finally tried the crate. And that worked. Tried it this morning, but it’s not working.

But they were angels for about 2 hours yesterday and that forced me to keep working on SEAL for 2 hours straight until they woke. They ended up back on my lap later, because frankly, I didn’t have the time or patience (which it requires to train them right), to deal with making them nap in their beds yesterday. I really had to get Silver done. Now it is.

But now today,  I’ve got to do the writing on SEAL, and so I’m going to have the same problem as before. Limited time and way too much to do.

Puppy Training Time

Training them to nap in bed

Training them to nap in bed

And it worked!

And it worked!

As you can see, they settled down in the  other bed, and later, they moved around and were in two separate beds. But they slept and I could work undisturbed for a couple of hours. I had to keep putting them in the bed up above. You see Tanner’s look? Max is more resigned. Tanner is like, “You’re kidding me, right?” We had to do this over and over again. One would climb out or jump out, and then the other would. I kept taking the escape artist and putting him back in, whichever he was. It was funny that they didn’t both do it at the same time. They took turns. I was afraid they were just getting my attention and wouldn’t get the message. You know: negative attention is better than no attention. But they finally did and fell asleep.

next day, naptime

next day, naptime

Yesterday it was absolutely a no go. They wouldn’t stay in the bed no matter what.

puppies slept in crate instead

puppies slept in crate instead

No matter how much I tried to convince them to settle down in their bed, they wouldn’t. This was 6 hours of trying, on and off while I did edits. Soooo, I finally tried the crate and it’s near my desk, and voila, it worked. They have to nap. They get really cranky if they don’t.

They are now in their bed, so maybe….if they will. Or not. They’re playing tug of war with a chew stick. I finally put Tanner on my lap, I know, I’m so not an alpha, and he fell asleep. And then Max wanted up with us. And he’s all sighs and asleep. *sigh*

Sending Silver off so I can get back to work on SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble!

Have a lovely Friday. Can’t believe it’s already Friday. *double sigh*

Juggling Books

Heart of the Jaguar Series Collage

I used to be so envious when multi-published authors were complaining about deadlines. I thought I’d never be one of those. Ever. And I thought they were so lucky, so quit complaining. LOL

So chin up. Smile. You can be one too!

Unless you’re a reader, and then you can just dive into the pure enjoyment of reading for pleasure.

So I’m juggling Jaguar Pride and the rest of the jaguar series, which are still on a special sale price, Savage Hunger, FREE.

I’m juggling promo with it. The book is done and ready to come out in about 3 weeks.

Review from Tea and Books

Steamy, senusal, intense and unique, Ms Spear’s Jaguars invoke a sensuality that only exists in cats. That sleek playfulness and sinuous sizzle. As Jaguar shifters her characters have it all as humans they use their knowledge of being a big cat to work to save the places where they can run free. Although there are perfectly normal individuals, you know like insurance agents.. LOL..

I have enjoyed each and every one of these books and heartily suggest that you give them a try…

Jaguar Pride will be coming in February so now’s your chance to catch up..

Shauni

And I’m juggling Kissing the Highlander, due out Feb 10, with preorders and print stuff and such, which also includes promo.

Kissing the Highlander final (438x640)

And I turned in SEAL Wolf Hunting edits, but that means that Silver Wolf Christmas wolf edits will be coming soon.

SEAL Wolf Hunting

SEAL Wolf Hunting

I’m working on SEAL Wolf Diving and trying to keep after word count. Have 2,900 words to go today to make my word count for yesterday–so wrote 3,000 this morning already. But have to keep after it.

And I have to work on Call of the Cougar’s audiobook proof. She forgot the prologue, so that’s the first problem. But I have to read over every sentence to make sure it matches and then write up everything that doesn’t, at the time that it was on the recording. So it takes time. The project was about 9 hours, I think, and it’ll take me more than that to keep stopping and making notes for the narrator, and taking breaks to do other things….

Soooo, yes, it was wonderful when I began getting multiple contracts. Just so I could say I was working toward some goal. Before? They were all just for myself. Of course this is in the prehistoric days when self-publishing wasn’t an option and I couldn’t share my stories unless a publisher picked them up. But those were the days when I wrote and wrote and wrote, and then tried to sell and sell and sell.

Have a wonderful Monday! I’m off to get the rest of my word count done so I can feel at peace with the world around me. Playing catchup all the time is not fun.

How is your Monday going? Does it feel it’s on track? Or have you already fallen off????

🙂

Puppy Wars!!! And Fantastic Early Reviews for Jaguar Pride!!

Okay, I was awake at 2 with allergies, so it wasn’t like I was asleep anyway, but, the puppies made me actually get up at 3:30.  Now, the reason was that Tanner had to really, really go outside. So that was good that he didn’t go in their crate. I was proud of him. It’s also storming out, but both were good.

So then, naturally, they’re up, I’m up, it means feeding time at the zoo. Not quite. It’s REALLY not time to be up. So I vacuumed, did laundry, cleaned my kitchen, and wore them out. They were sleeping on my lap, but I just moved them to their bed so I could type more easily. I swear, I’ll get this alpha bit down soon. Well, forget that. It’s been like 45 mins and they’re back up. This is so much like having babies.

Good news also is that I’ve had some great reviews for Jaguar Pride!!

JaguarPride_041714_B

Woohoo, from Night Owl Reviews!!! Score: 5.00 / 5 – Reviewer Top Pick

I loved Terry Spear’s Jaguar Pride. The story flowed so well and I was surprised when I finished it. I was completely absorbed and loved the characters. Any story with shifters involved is going to rock my world, but this one was just amazing. I found it interesting that the author went with poachers. Poachers are a big thing and it can get very dangerous to stop them because you are cutting into them getting big money. I truly enjoyed this book and can easily recommend it. I hope others will love it as much as I did.
In Jaguar Pride Huntley takes no prisoners and is one of a kind. He and his partner Melissa find shifter cubs, by themselves, on a mission he takes them under his wing. No one will hurt them under his watch and Melissa feels the same way.

Happy reading,

Wild Rayne

Oh, and of course I’m behind on writing Phantom Fae, though when I was awake at 2, I was thinking more on scenes. I have been writing daily, but just getting behinder.  Still, I’m working on it. And that’s the main thing. To keep working on something even if you don’t have the time to devote to all of your word count goals.

Have a super great Friday!!! I’m enjoying the storm, though not when taking the puppies out it in all day. 🙂 <3

What Kind of Hawk is This?

I had so much fun at my daughter and son-in-laws and seeing the Texas Renaissance Festival and having a couple of fun Italian meals out.

This was one of the gowns they had for sale at the fair. The gowns and such are beautiful. Expensive, but beautiful.

black and white gown (435x640)

I got home at about 8:30 am and first thing, after unpacking the car, was getting a cup of hot tea so I could get to work on Jaguar Pride to finish final proofing it and get it turned in today.

Now, I have a wildlife sanctuary out back. One day, I saw this huge bird, I thought was a hawk, crawling through my hedge to get baby sparrows. I went outside with my camera and it flew out of the hedge and I couldn’t capture it on the camera. But I was certain it was a hawk. It had a curved beak, yellow eyes, spotted on the side (he caught me looking at him and turned sideways to look at me and then quickly moved away from the window), and did I mention he was huge?

Anyway, so I’m looking out the window as I’m waiting for the water to heat up, and I’m noticing no birds, no birdseed, and figuring I’ll need to feed them, and there goes this huge bird flying under the canopy of the trees in the backyard, then he settles in the variegated privet, a tall hedge about ten feet tall and begins eating whatever he caught. OMG. It’s him! Or her! So I ran to get my still packed camera, figuring he’d have flown off. But nope. He sees me moving in front of the window, climbing my footstool to get above the kitchen screen on the window and eats his prey.

And here he is:

hawk 003 (2) (640x427)

This picture shows him in perspective, just how big he is.

right sideview hawkgreat sideview of hawkhawk 001

So it’s Texas, and the question is, what kind of hawk is it? He looks like he is getting plenty of meals!

I turned in Jaguar Pride, have 2 special blogs I’ve got to do and then it’s off to finishing up on edits on A Silver Wolf Christmas! I also worked on 4 small blond bears for orders and a medium blond bear for another. 🙂 <3  And I got more fur and I have to cut them all out. You know why? Because before long, Christmas will be here!!!

Have a super great Tuesday! Can’t believe it’s already Tuesday!

Have You Ever Been to a Renaissance Fair? & Wolf Awareness Week Continues!

Going to a Renaissance Fair in Texas can be challenging–clothes wise.  You’re trying to dress up in period clothes and its HOT!

Anyway, my son-in-law is dressing up for the first time, and I’m excited. I’m wearing cooler. 🙂  I just throw some stuff together. We don’t go to them enough to pay a lot of money on costumes and I had a few things from some other events I wore, so should work. It’s the fantasy theme, so that should be fun.

Cougar’s Mate : Heart of the Cougar, Book 1

Cougar’s Mate: Instinct told her to run…

Shannon Rafferty learns that hanging out with the bad boys could be a dangerous business, but hooking up with a cop is even worse. Now she’s on the run, trying to avoid being murdered by his cougar shifter brothers and uncle. If that isn’t bad enough, a deputy sheriff hunts her down while she’s running as a cougar and trying to survive in the Colorado wilderness. He vows to protect her no matter what she’s done. With three dead boyfriends to her name, she’s sure she will be the death of Chase Buchanan before either of them can prevent it. No matter how much she knows she has to run again, he soon holds her heart hostage. But will that be enough to keep them both alive?

Chase Buchanan—as wilderness cabin resort owner, former US Army Special Forces, and part time deputy of the small town of Yuma, Colorado that boasts a love of cougars—is tasked to track down a cougar reported to be hunting human prey. Chase soon learns she’s a shifter, not a full-time cougar, and she’s on the run. When he takes her in, he vows to protect her. After losing his wife and baby to the human kind of predator years earlier, he’s not letting Shannon’s hunters kill her, too. But how is he going to hold onto the wild-cat woman, who is unpredictable at every turn, without losing his heart to her, and then losing her as well?

And I have student lessons stacking up again ( calculated it and if I don’t do any additional critiques, which I have already done, I’ll have a total of 204 critiques to do), and I need to make word count on A Silver Wolf Christmas. Getting 3,000 words done a day, and have been fortunate to keep making it. It’s easy to get stuck. Especially when you’re jumping from the snowy Christmas story with wolves to the jungles of Costa Rica and the jaguars. And I just submitted a proposal for 3 more books. So we shall see if my publisher wants any more! 🙂 <3

Titles will probably change, but: Jaguar Jingle Bells, A SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble, and She-Wolf (another Silver wolf pack story) If they get picked out, they will be coming in 2016. I’m already “booked” for 2015 with releases in Feb: Jaguar Pride, April: SEAL Wolf for Sale, Oct: A Silver Wolf Christmas

And of course more Highland medievals and fae stories, and more. 🙂 <3

Oh, yes, and bears. Worked on 3 last night. Not finished, but getting closer….

Hero of HL Wolf-300 (390x640)

I just turned in Jaguar Pride edits and they sent me the FINAL approved cover for it. What do you think?

Jaguar Pride-300-1

Love the way they changed the cat’s eyes to make them really stand out, and love the purple.

Okay, I have to get back to proofing A Highland Wolf Christmas.

The fun part of all this is the books are written. No figuring out how to wrap up all the loose ends, or end it period. They’re done. Just final proofing. Yes!

But as soon as I have made the changes to A SEAL Wolf for Sale and turn it in, I’ll be starting with: Chapter 1. A Silver Wolf Christmas. No other words, just title, my name, and Chapter 1.

Where do I go from there?

I have no idea.

Lion? Cougar? Jaguar? Bronze Sculptures, Austin

I think it’s a lion. But right now I’m working on Jaguar Pride so I’m going to pretend it’s Huntley as a black jaguar. Halfway through rereading it and should have it done today.

I love having a cover for it. It makes it easier for me to visualize when I’m writing. 🙂

I actually did my million errands yesterday–spent 2 1/2 hours running them, and then saw Maleficent. I thought it was pretty good for being a remake of a fairytale. Though if everyone keeps retelling the stories as though there is no romance, it will become as predictable as the old fairytales.

Jaguar Cubs

I actually was using the difference to describe them in Jaguar Pride, but the two JAG agents end up being saddled with a couple of jaguar cubs while on a mission.

Okay, back to my own mission–finish reading Jaguar Pride, because the books are stacking up!

Have a terrific hump day!

Really Bizarre and Totally Fascinating

At least to me.

I’m usually fairly observant about things around me. So yesterday when I was taking photographs of birds being birds, I suddenly saw the tree in front of me. Not the birds. Not anything else, but the tree. It had character. Age spots. Old moss, new moss, it was beautiful. More interesting at that moment than anything else in the world.

I wondered why I  hadn’t noticed it before. How could I have missed it? It’s big as day standing right in front of the window! Well, I did what I usually do when I find something fun and interesting, I took pictures, still not believing I hadn’t seen it before.

Have you seen Limitless? It’s violent, but it has an interesting premise–that a chemical substance can tap into all those unused brain cells of ours and make us see more clearly. The man whose story is being told is an unpublished writer who has an advance to write a book (remember I mentioned fantasy??? And how sometimes we just have to go with the story???) and he’s not written a single word and can’t. This had been going on for months. With this pill, he suddenly has the clarity to write the book in four days. And it’s brilliant. Well, it’s a dark story, but I felt like him yesterday, looking at that tree and wondering why I had never seen the beauty of it.

moss and cardinals 005 (640x427)

I just want you to know it has NOTHING to do with me. Today when I went to get my cup of green tea, it is a gray tree, nothing more.  I need another one of those pills!

In reality, what happened? Somehow the sun and the moon and the shadows and nature revealed the beauty of that tree, and then, the combination of these things went away. And now it looks like it usually does. Nondescript and the birds have all the attention again.

So if something like that catches your eye, and you think how utterly bizarre that you hadn’t noticed it before, capture it, because it may never happen again. 🙂
